The effects of the cutting conditions on the surface roughness of workpiece in turning were studied in this paper. The workpieces made of carbon steel SM20C and SM45C were tamed without the support of the tailstock center. Cutting conditions were changed in three or flour steps in each parameter and cutting fluid was used. The surface roughness results of tests were measured and the effects of the cutting conditions were analyzed by the method of analysis of variance. The summary of the experimental research is as follows. The main parameters were cutting speed, fred-rate, depth of cut, and the interactions between speed and fled-rate, speed and depth of cut, and fred and depth of cut. As cutting speed increased, surface roughness showed lower value. The surface roughnesses of feed-rate 0.102 mm/rev and 0.147 mm/rev were better than those of feed-rate 0.05 mm/rev and 0.2 mm/rev.
An improved voltage modulation method (VMM) was used to control the heat release and adsorption properties of the adsorbent. In this work, the voltage and flux modulation methods were considered under unified experimental conditions of dissociative surface ionization (SI) of polyatomic organic molecules, the criteria were found when under VMM conditions the current relaxation of SI carries information about the kinetic properties of thermal desorption of ionizable dissociation particles arriving on the surface of polyatomic molecules. Conditions were found under which the relaxation of the ionic current in the flux modulation method is determined by the kinetics of the heterogeneous dissociation reaction of the original polyatomic molecules. The values of the thermal desorption rate constant K+ and the activation energy E+ obtained with VMM for desorption of (CH3)2NCH+2 ions with m/z 58 by adsorption of imipramine and amitriptyline molecules agree well with each other and with the results for the desorption of the same ions by adsorption of other molecules. This confirms one of the basic conditions for the equilibrium process SI - the a degree (β coefficient) of the same particles SI on the same emitter surface is the same and does not depend on the way these particles are formed on the emitter surface.
PURPOSES : This study evaluates the reliability of the patterns of changes in the road surface temperature during winter using a statistical technique. In addition, a flexible road segmentation method is developed based on the collected road surface temperature data. METHODS : To collect and analyze the data, a thermal mapping system that could be attached to a survey vehicle along with various other sensors was employed. We first selected the test route based on the date and the weather and topographical conditions, since these factors affect the patterns of changes in the road surface temperature. Each route was surveyed a total of 10 times on a round-trip basis at the same times (5 AM to 6 AM). A correlation analysis was performed to identify whether the weather conditions reported for the survey dates were consistent with the actual conditions. In addition, we developed a method for dividing the road into sections based on the consecutive changes in the road surface temperature for use in future applications. Specifically, in this method, the road surface temperature data collected using the thermal mapping system was compared continuously with the average values for the various road sections, and the road was divided into sections based on the temperature. RESULTS : The results showed that the comparison of the reported and actual weather conditions and the standard deviation in the observed road surface temperatures could produce a good indicator of the reliability of the patterns of the changes in the road surface temperature. CONCLUSIONS : This research shows how road surface temperature data can be evaluated using a statistical technique. It also confirms that roads should be segmented based on the changes in the temperature and not using a uniform segmentation method.
The importance of surface conditions of nucleate boiling is well recognized and it has been known that the heat transfer to boiling liquid is closely related to the bubble population density. The bubble population density should depend on various factors such as heat flux, surface roughness, surface contamination, properties of liquid, etc. In this paper the effect of surface conditions on heat transfer in nucleate boiling is treated. The experiments were carried out with distilled water boiler, on the horizontal heating surfaces, sintered with various bronze particle, under atmospheric pressure. In addition, experimental investigation for the polished bronze surface was performed. By studing a coefficient Xb defined by eq. (9), which represents the bubble foaming ability of heating surface, generalized fomula on the heat transfer in the nucleate toiling were expressed. The coefficient $X_b$, determined empirically, is not constant and indicates a major influence of the sintered metal surfaces on the $\Delta$, necessary to sustain nucleate boiling at any given heat flux. In this study, the main results are obtained as follows; (1) At low temperature difference, the coefficient $X_b$ of sintered metal surface was found to he higher than the polished surface throughout the full range of experiments. (2) The optimum sintered structure showing the maximum coefficient $X_b$ has been confirmed to exist and it is encountered when particle diameter is $256{\mu}$.
This study expanded Terzaghi arching formula, which assumed a vertical surface as a sliding surface, to consider an arbitrarily inclined surface as a sliding surface and examined the effect of a sliding surface. This study firstly developed a formula to expand the existing Terzaghi arching formula to consider an inclined surface as well as a vertical surface as a sliding surface under the downward movement of a trap door. Using the expanded formula, the effect of excavation, ground, and surcharge conditions on a vertical stress was examined and the results were compared with them from Terzaghi arching formula. The comparison indicated that the induced vertical stress was highly affected by the angle of an inclined sliding surface and the degree of influence depended on the excavation, ground, and surcharge conditions. It is expected that the results from this study would provide a better understanding of various arching phenomenon in the future.

Four different data reduction methods for the heat transfer coefficients from experimental data under dehumidifying conditions are compared. The four methods consist of two heat and mass transfer models and two fin efficiency models. Data are obtained from two heat exchanger samples having plain fins or wave fins. Comparison of the reduced heat transfer coefficients revealed that the single potential heat and mass transfer model yielded the humidity-independent heat transfer coefficients. Two fin efficiency models-enthalpy model and humidity model-yielded approximately the same fin efficiencies, and accordingly approximately the same heat transfer coefficients. The heat transfer coefficients under wet conditions were approximately the same as those of the dry conditions for the plain fin configuration. For the wave fin configuration, however, wet surface heat transfer coefficients were approximately 12% higher. The pressure drops of the wet surface were 10% to 45% larger than those of the dry surface.
In the gas cutting of plate steel, the quality of the cut surfaces and sections is strongly dependent on the cutting conditions such as cutting speed, kerf width, plate thickness, material, distance between tip and specimen, and cutting oxygen pressure etc. The cutting tests of plate steel were carried out using CNC gas cutting machine. This paper deals with cut surface and section characteristics of plate steel in CNC gas cutting. Both top and bottom widths of kerf, the surface roughness(Ra, Rmax) of cutting surfaces are measured under various cutting conditions such as cutting speed, material, distance between tip and specimen, and cutting thickness. The photographs of cut surface and cut section are also analyzed under various cutting conditions.
Micro machining can manufacture complex shapes with high accuracy. Especially, this enables wide application of micro technology in various fields. For example, micro channels allow fluid transfer, which is a widely used technology. Therefore, liquidity research of flow in micro channels and micro channel manufacturing with use of various materials and cutting conditions has very important meaning. In this study, to find out correlation between fluid velocity in micro channels and surface roughness, we manufactured micro channels using micro end-mill and dropped ethanol into micro channels. We compared several surface roughness and fluid velocity in micro channels that were created by various processing conditions. Finally, we found out relationship between fluid velocity and surface roughness in micro channels of different materials.

A direct boundary element method(DBEM) is developed for thin bodies whose surfaces are rigid or compliant. Th eHelmholtz integral equation and its normal derivative integral equation are adopted simultaneously to calculate the pressure on both sides of the thin body, instead of the jump values across it, to account for the different surface conditions of each side. Unlike the usual assumption, the normal velocity is assumed to be discontinuous across the thin body. In this approach, only the neutral surface of the thin body has to be discontinuous across the thin body. In this approach, only the neural surface of the thin body has to be discretized. The method is validated by comparison with analytic and/or numerical results for acoustic scattering and radiation from several surface conditions of the thin body; the surfaces are rigid when stationary or vibrating, and part of the interior surface is lined with a sound-absorbing material.
