Regulation of depth and composition of airway surface liquid

  • We review the factors which regulate the depth and composition of the human airway surface liquid (ASL). These include secretion from airway submucosal glands, ion and fluid transport across the surface epithelium, goblet cell discharge, surface tension and transepithelial gradients in osmotic and hydrostatic pressure. We describe recent experiments in which we have used low temperature scanning electron microscopy of rapidly frozen specimens to detect changes in depth of ASL in response to submucosal gland stimulation. We also present preliminary data in which X-ray microanalysis of frozen specimens has been used to determine the elemental composition of ASL.

피로인산염욕을 사용한 은-주석 합금도금층의 조성 및 현미경 조직 (Composition and microstructure of Silver-Tin alloy deposits from prophosphate bath)

  • Composition and microstructures of Silver-Tin alloy deposits from a pyrophosphate bath were studied under the D.C. electrolysis conditions. Cathode current efficiency and throwing power of alloy deposits de-creased with increasing current density. Tin content of Ag-Sn alloy deposits decreased noticeably with the cur-rent density and with decreasing pH. The preferred orientation of the deposits tended to change in sequence of (110)longrightarrow(111)longrightarrow(100) texture with increasing the cathode overpotential. The surface structure of alloy deposits showed the smooth surface structure with fine crystallites.

  • This study includes a basic feature of laser surface alloying for enhancing the surface properties of materials. Effects of laser processing parameters such as beam power, beam size, scanning speed on the shape and composition of alloyed layer was simulated in case of moving beam conditions (2-dimensional numerical methods). Simulated results were compared with experiments, in which the plasma coating of 80% Ni + 20% Cr deposited on the SS41 substrate was remelted with CO2 laser with Gaussian energy distribution. Simulation and experiments revealed that the shape (dimension)and composition of laser alloyed layer were strongly dependent upon the process parameters, especially interaction time (travel speed) as compared to beam diameter, beam power and absorptivity. The shape and composition of alloyed layervaried more or less exponentially with parameters.

  • In this study, the advanced on-sided stress wave velocity measurement method was applied to investigate the effects of composition, age and moisture content in concrete. Two concrete specimens that have different composition were used to figure out the change of the Longitudinal and Surface wave velocity due to different composition. The other concrete specimen was cast and the Longitudinal and Surface wave velocity was monitored during curing process. After 28-day old, the effect of moisture content in the concrete specimen to the stress wave velocity is presented in this paper during the time period 43-74 days after casting. For drying process. an aggregate drying oven was used. A conventional ultrasonic through transmission method was used to compare with the results determined by the one-sided method.

  • We have studied about the optimum chemical etching and sensitizing conditions of the plating on plastics. As specimen 'Mitzubishi Nobren MM2A' was used. The results were as follow. 1) The optimum chemical etching conditions. Etched the specimens for $10{\sim}40$ minutes at $70{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ with the etching solution of table 1, and for $10{\sim}15$ minutes at $65{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ with the etching solution of table 2 Table 1.   • In this study, Pd-Ni-Ag alloy hydrogen separation membranes were fabricated by Pd/Ag/Pd/Ni/Pd multi-layer sputter deposition on the modified MIM(Metal Injection Molding)-PSS(Porous Stainless Steel) support and followed heat treatment. Nickel, used as an alloying element in Pd alloy membranes, is inexpensive and stable material in a hydrogen isotope environment at high temperature up to 1123 K. Hydrogen perm-selectivity of Pd-Ni-Ag alloy membranes is affected not only by composition of membrane films but also by other factors such as surface properties of PSS support, microstructure of membrane films and inter-diffused impurities from PSS support. In order to clarify the effect of surface Ni composition on hydrogen perm-selectivity of Pd-Ni-Ag alloy membranes, the other effects were significantly minimized by the formation of dense and homogeneous Pd-Ni-Ag alloy membranes. Hydrogen permeation test showed that hydrogen permeability decreased from $7.6{\times}10^{-09}$ to $1.02{\times}10^{-09}mol/m{\cdot}s{\cdot}Pa^{0.5}$ as Ni composition increased from 0 to 16 wt% and the selectivity for $H_2/N_2$ was infinite.

SmBCO 초전도 선재 특성에 대한 Sm:Ba:Cu 조성비의 영향 (Effects of Sm:Ba:Cu Composition Ratio on the Superconducting Properties of SmBCO Coated Conductor Prepared by using a Composition Gradient Method)

  • 조성경사법을 이용하여 LMO/IBAD-MgO template 상에 EDDC 증착법을 이용하여 $Sm_{1+x}Ba_{2-x}Cu_{3+y}O_{7-d}$ 초전도 박막을 증착하였다. 테이프 형상의 기판상에 길이방향으로 $Sm_{1+x}Ba_{2-x}Cu_{3+y}O_{7-d}$ 박막의 조성비가 연속적으로 변하는 샘플을 얻을 수 있었고, 비접촉 Hallprobe를 이용하여 임계전류를 측정한 결과 조성비에 대응하는 연속적인 임계전류분포를 측정할 수 있었다. 본 조성비 영역 중 Sm:Ba:Cu = 1.01:1.99 :4.87의 조성비에서 최대의 임계전류를 보였다. 이 조성비에서 SmBCO 박막표면에 전체적으로 roof tile 형상의 결정립들이 관찰되었으며 국소적으로 2차상들이 관찰되었다. 조성 경사법을 이용하면 광범위한 조성비영역에서 신뢰도 높은 초전도특성, 결정배향성, 박막표면 형상 등을 조사할 수 있을 것으로 예상된다.

고대 금속활자의 복제를 위한 성분분석과 열역학적 주의 점 (Composition Analysis and Thermodynamic Care for Replication of Ancient Metallic Type)

  • 'Jikjisimcheyocheal (Jikji afterwards)' is known as a first book printed by the metal type in the world. The metal type used for printing this book has not been found yet. To help for replicating the original metal type, it is required to investigate the composition analysis of the copied metal type. In this study, the composition analysis and thermodynamic care for replicating of ancient metal type was performed on the basis of an analytical reports concerned with the ancient metal type which made after Jikji printing. Metal types were made by remelting and casting of the mother alloy which came from a cast of a mixed metals in accordance with the composition revealed in the literatures. Change of composition during remelting of mother alloy and casting of metal was detected by the EDS analysis. The reasons for variation in composition were discussed by metallurgical and thermodynamic point of view, and a mixing ratio of metals to get the original composition of ancient metal type is suggested. Some attention should be paid on mixing, melting and casting of metals to get an objected composition for copy of ancient metal type.

  • In order to polish complicated shaped inner surfaces of molds, a new polishing method with consolation liquid was Invented The MAGIC (MAGnetic Intelligent Compound) Polishing is the best method, a countermeasure of polishing trouble that is reduce of productivity and instability of quality. But because MAGIC polishing is new polishing method there is no study of the standardization of polishing by MAGIC wheel yet. So we want to standadize MAGIC polishing condition.   • This paper presents the friction induced scuffing and wear defects analysis of a pin bushing bearing based on the chemical composition using a scanning microscopy (SEM) and an energy dispersive X-ray analyzer (EDX). The SEM/EDX system, which may provide good information on the surface thermal defects and chemical compositions, provides impurities such as an aluminum, a silicon, a ferrous component and an oxygen, especially. The EDX measured results show that the oxygen may reduce the strength and a hardness of a pin busing, which may lead to a scuffing and a seizure on the rubbing contact surface. The current technology fabricated by a sintering for a pin bushing bearing should be modified or changed to reduce the oxygen composition and the impurities in pin bushing materials.
