Objectives : To present a differential standard of Armeniacae Semen and Persicae Semen that are easily confused. Methods : It was planed a differential standard form through outer appearance of the original plant, outer appearance in the form of each medicines and the appearance of the interior form through a microscope for each samples. Using an standard compound amygdalin, each samples have been analyzed by HPLC and TLC. Results : It was possible to distinguish the orignal plant between Armeniacae Semen and Persicae Semen through its leaf shape and calyx type. In Outer appearance in the form of each medicines, there was no difference pre-existing method(measuring length and width). In vascular pattern of the surface, however, there was a clear difference that Armeniacae Semen was developed more reticulated branches than Persicae Semen. In appearance through a microscope, it has not been possible to find a clear difference in the per original plant. However, there was a clear difference between Armeniacae Semen(1 layer) and Persicae Semen(3 layer) in inner albubemen cell. In TLC analysis, there was no difference in the pattern between samples. But in HPLC analysis, Armeniacae Semen showed amygdalin content higher on average. Conclusions : It will be possible to find various differences in the outer appearance of the original plant, the outer appearance in the form of each medicines, the appearance of the interior form through a microscope and physical and chemical research component.
We propose a method to estimate the 3-D shape of surfaces with specular reflection, using a model of the difference in appearance between images reflected from a flat surface and a curved surface. First, we analyze the geometry of spatial reflection from a specular surface and how reflected light varies due to a curved surface. This is used to estimate 3-D shape. The proposed method is shown to be effective in experiments using illumination from spatially distributed light sources and a camera capturing the reflected light from curved, specular surfaces.
Although the surface of aluminum alloy has good corrosion resistance property, the surface of the aluminum rolling stock should be painted for good appearance and protection of the body. For better painting of the aluminum carbody, the surface must also be well pretreated. In this paper, painting process of the aluminum rolling stock is described and the test results of the painted surface is presented. As accumulated data concerning to the painting technology for the aluminum rolling stocks are absent in our country, the presented test results will be helpful for mass production of aluminum rolling stocks in the near future.

Weldlines are generated during the injection molding process when two or more melt flows are brought into contact. The weldlines are unavoidable in the cases of presence of holes or inserts, multi-gated delivery systems, significant thickness change, etc. At the welded contact region, a 'V'-shaped notch is formed on the surface of the molded part. This 'V'-notch deteriorates not only surface appearance but also mechanical strength of the molded part. To eliminate or reduce weldlines so as to improve the weldline strength, the mold temperature at the corresponding weld locations should be maintained higher than the glass transition temperature of the resin material. The present study implements high-frequency induction heating in order to rapidly raise mold surface temperature without a significant increase in cycle time. This induction heating enables to local mold heating so as to eliminate or reduce weldlines in an injection-molded plastic part. The effect of induction heating conditions on the weldline strength and surface appearance of an injection-molded part is investigated.
If galvanized steel is exposed to an outdoor environment, atmospheric corrosion will occur with time and red rust will form when the sacrificial protection capacity of zinc reaches its limit. With corrosion, the surface appearance of steel changes, and the properties of the exterior materials degrade. In this study, two kinds of galvanized steel, (GA and GI specimens) were subjected to an outdoor exposure test for 36 months in six regions of Korea. Chrominance (color, chroma, and brightness) and glossiness surface analyses were performed. The color change was not significant, regardless of the exposed area or the specimens tested. With increasing exposure times, the GA specimen became blackened by the formation of zinc oxide, and red coloration was increased by the formation of red rust. As the exposure time of GI specimen increased, the surface proceeded to blacken, but no red rust was formed and the color did not change significantly. Regardless of the outdoor exposure area or the specimen, longer exposure times led to lower glossiness, and this behavior appears to be influenced by the formation of zinc oxide.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of acid etching on the surface appearance and fracture toughness of five glass ionomer cements. Five kinds of commercially available glass ionomer cements including chemical curing filling type, chemical curing lining type, chemical curing metal reinforced type, light curing tilling type and light curing lining type were used for this study. The specimens for SEM study were fabricated by treating each glass ionomer cement with either visible light curing or self curing after being inserted into a rubber mold (diameter 4mm, depth 1mm). Some of the specimens were etched with 37% phosphoric acid for 0, 15, 30, 60, go seconds, at 5 minutes, 1 hour and 1 day after mixing of powder and liquid. Unetched ones comprised the control group and the others were the experimental groups. The surface texture was examined by using scanning electron microscope at 20 kV. (S-2300, Hitachi Co., Japan). The specimens for fracture toughness were fabricated by curing of each glass ionomer cement previously inserted into a metal mold for the single edge notch specimen according to the ASTME399. They were subjected to a three-point bend test after etching for 0, 30, 60, and 90 seconds at 5 minutes-, 1 hour-and 1 day-lapse after the fabrication of the specimens. The plane strain fracture toughness ($K_{IC}$) was determined by three-point bend test which was conducted with cross-head speed of 0.5 mm/min using Instron universal testing machine (Model No. 1122) following seven days storage of the etched specimens under $37^{\circ}C$, 100% humidity condition. Following conclusions were drawn. 1. In unetched control group, crack was present, but the surface was generally smooth. 2. Deterioration of the surface appearance such as serious dissolving of gel matrix and loss of glass particles occured as the etching time was increased beyond 15 s following Immediate etching of chemical curing type of glass ionomer cements. 3. Etching after 1 h, and 1 d reduced surface damage, 15 s, and 30s etch gave rough surface appearance without loss of glass particle of chemical curing type of glass ionomer cements. 4. Light curing type glass ionomer cement was etched by acid, but there was no difference in surface appearances according to various waiting periods. 5. It was found that the value of plane stram fracture toughness of glass ionomer cements was highest in the light curing filling type as $1.79\;MNm^{-1.5}$ followed by the light curing lining type, chemical curing metal reinforced type, chemical curing filling type and chemical curing lining type. 6. The value of plane stram fracture toughness of the chemical curing lining type glass ionomer cement etched after 5 minutes was lower than those of the cement etched after 1 hour or day or unetched (P < 0.05). 7. Light curing glass ionomer cement showed Irregular fractured surface and chemical curing cement showed smooth fractured surface.
This study proposes a new calculation method for generating real nighttime lamp-lit images. In order to improve the color appearance in the prediction of a nighttime lamp-lighted scene, the lamp-lit image is synthesized based on spectral distribution using the estimated local spectral distribution of the headlamps and the surface reflectance of every object. The principal component analysis method is introduced to estimate the surface color of an object, and the local spectral distribution of the headlamps is calculated based on the illuminance data and spectral distribution of the illuminating headlamps. HID and halogen lamps are utilized to create beam patterns and captured road scenes are used as background images to simulate actual headlamp-lit images on a monitor. As a result, the reproduced images presented a color appearance that was very close to a real nighttime road image illuminated by single and multiple headlamps.
Recently, upwelling of anoxic bottom water mass have been frequently observed in northeast part of Tokyo Bay in Japan during summer to autumn. Since the colour of water surface becomes milkyblue or milkygeen, the upwelling phenomenon Is called 'Blue Tide'. The data analysis of field surveys during 'Blue Tide' appearance have been performed for understanding the physical features of the 'Blue Tide' phenomena In Tokyo Bay. It becomes clear that (1) the formation of the anoxic bottom water correlates well with the temperature difference between the surface and bottom waters, (21 there are two necessary conditions for generating 'Blue Tide': that Is, strong stratincation and off-shore wind. The strong southwest(on-shored wand before the 'Blue Tide' appearance may play an iniportant role to make the striancation strengthen. When these conditions are larger and the northeast or east-northeast (off-shored wind stronger than S ifs blows In succession, the 'Blue Tide' upwelling appears at the head of Tokyo Bay.

The effects of ferrous ion on the properties of bright nickel electrodeposit were exa-mined. Iron exists as ferrous ion (Fe+2) and ferric ion (Fe+3) in the bath, a portion of the former tend to be oxidized to the somewhat harmful ferric ion. Iron was added to bath as the ferrous sulfate, ferrous ion prevented from the oxidation with citric acid. It was found that the hardness was increased as the concentration of ferrous ion, the ductility was slightly increased too. The appearance can obtain the wide bright deposits within 4g/$\ell$. The corrosion resistance drastically dropped from 5g/$\ell$ In the case of considering the effect of ferrous ion on the corrosion resistance and the appearance, the allowable limits is 4g/$\ell$, if the reductant is used.

This study aimed at the optimization and development of rice snack by response surface methodology (RSM). The effect of rice soaking time and additional ratio of soybean milk on physicochemical properties and sensory evaluation of dried rice flour for non-fried snack was studied. After soaking for 0 to 12 days, Baekjinju rice was milled and then air-dried. A quadratic model was selected for weight, volume, hardness, taste and appearance. Two-factor interaction model was selected for expansibility, color and overall preference. A linear model was selected for yellowness and flavor. Weight, hardness and appearance were increased and decreased thereafter as rice soaking time increased, but the volume was reversed. Expansibility, color, taste and flavor were decreased as rice soaking time increased, but yellowness was reversed. Weight and overall preference decreased as additional ratio of soybean milk increased, but volume, expansibility and yellowness were reversed. Hardness, taste and appearance were increased after initial decrease as additional ratio of soybean milk increased, color and flavor were not changed by additional ratio of soybean milk. The optimum conditions of each factor were set to where the rice soaking time and additional ratio of soybean milk were at their minimum. Weight, volume, expansibility, yellowness, hardness, color, taste, flavor, appearance and overall preference were established at maximum level where the objective of the optimum was in level. Our data indicated the statistically predicted values of the highest desirability was 1.24 day of rice soaking time and 15.80% of additional ratio of soybean milk.
