The computation of moving interface by the level set method typically requires reinitializations of level set function. An inaccurate estimation of level set function ${\phi}$ results in incorrect free-surface capturing and thus errors such as mass gain/loss. Therefore, accurate and robust reinitialization process is essential to the free-surface flows. In the present paper, we pursue further development of the reinitialization process, which evaluates directly level set function ${\phi}$ using a normal vector in the interface without solving the re-distancing equation of hyperbolic type. The Taylor-Galerkin approximation and P1P1splitting FEM are adopted to discretize advection equation of the level set function and the Navier-Stokes equation, respectively. Advection equation of free surface and re-initialization process are validated with benchmark problems, i.e., a broken dam flow and time-reversed single vortex flow. The simulation results are in good agreement with the existing results.

Aerodynamic forces and moments have been used to control rocket propelled vehicles. If control is required at very low speed, Those systems only provide a limited capability because aerodynamic control force is proportional to the air density and low dynamic pressure. But thrust vector control(TVC) can overcome the disadvantages. TVC is the method which generates the side force and roll moment by controlling exhausted gas directly in a rocket nozzle. TVC is classified by mechanical and fluid dynamic methods. Mechanical methods can change the flow direction by several objects installed in a rocket nozzle exhaust such as tapered ramp tabs and jet vane. Fluid dynamic methods control the flight direction with the injection of secondary gaseous flows into the rocket nozzle. The tapered ramp tabs of mechanical methods are used in this paper. They installed at the rear in the rocket nozzle could be freely moved along axial and radial direction on the mounting ring to provide the mass flow rate which is injected from the rocket nozzle. In this paper, the conceptual design and the performance study on the tapered ramp tabs of the thurst vector control has been carried out using the supersonic cold flow system and shadow graph. Numerical simulation was also performed to study flow characteristics and interactions between ramp tabs. This paper provides to analyze the location of normal shock wave and distribution of surface pressure on the region enclosed by the tapered ramp tabs.
Bump mapping is a technique that represents the detailed parts of the object surface, such as a perturberance of the skin of a peanut, using the geometry mapping without complex modeling. However, the hardware implementation for bump mapping is considerable, because a large amount of per pixel computation, including the normal vector shading, is required. In this paper, we propose a new bump mapping algorithm using the polar coordinate system and its hardware architecture. Compared with other existing architectures, our approach performs bump mapping effectively by using a new vector rotation method for transformation into the reference space and minimizing illumination calculation. Consequently, our proposed architecture reduces a large amount of computation and hardware requirements.

High-speed permanent magnet machines are likely to be a key technology for electric drives and motion control systems for many applications, since they are conductive to high efficiency, high power density, small size and low weight. In high-speed machines, the permanent magnets are often contained within a retaining sleeve. However, the sleeve and the magnets are exposed to high order flux harmonics, which cause parasitic eddy current losses. Rotor losses of high-speed machines are of great importance especially in high-speed applications, because losses heat the rotor, which is often very compact construction and thereby difficult to cool. This causes a danger of demagnetization of the NdFeB permanent magnets. Therefore, special attention should be paid to the prediction of the rotor losses. This paper is concerned with the rotor losses in permanent magnet high-speed machines that are caused by permeance variation due to stator slotting. First, the flux harmonics are determined by double Fourier analysis of the normal flux density data over the rotor surface. And then, the rectilinear model was used to calculate rotor losses in permanent magnet machines. Finally, Poynting vector have been used to investigate the rotor eddy current losses of high-speed Permanent magnet machine.

This study presents a modified scheme for the radar image simulation of sea waves. A simulated radar image was obtained by taking into account the dot product of the directed vector from the radar and the normal vector of the sea surface. Moreover, to calculate the radar image, we used the radar received power and radar cross section. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme, the wave spectrum from field data was utilized to obtain the simulated sea waves. The radar image was simulated using numerically generated sea waves. The wave statistics from the simulation agrees comparatively with those of the original field data acquired by real radar measurements.
This paper proposes an effective algorithm that combines both the stereo matching and the marching cube algorithm. By applying the stereo matching technique to an image obtained from various angles, 3D geometry data are acquired, and using the camera extrinsic parameter, the images are combined. After reconstructing the combined data into mesh using the image index, the normal vector equivalent to each point is obtained and the mesh smoothing is processed. This paper describes the successive processes and techniques on the 3D mesh reconstruction, and by proposing the intermediate iso- surface algorithm. Therefore it improves the 3D data instability problem caused when using the conventional marching cube algorithm.

Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) have attracted the attention of scientists and engineers involved in a wide area of research, microscopy, diagnostics and sensing. SPPs are waves that propagate along the surface of a conductor, usually metals. These are essentially light waves that are trapped on the surface because of their interaction with the free electrons of conductor. In this interaction, the free electrons respond collectively by oscillating in resonance with the light wave. The resonant interaction between the surface charge oscillation and the electromagnetic field of the light constitutes the SPPs and gives rise to its unique properties. In this papers, we studied theoretical and experimental extraordinary transmittance (T) and reflectance (R) of 2 dimensional metal hole array (2D-MHA) on GaAs in consideration of the diffraction orders. The 2d-MHAs was fabricated using ultra-violet photolithography, electron-beam evaporation and standard lift-off process with pitches ranging from 1.8 to $3.2{\mu}m$ and diameter of half of pitch, and was deposited 5-nm thick layer of titanium (Ti) as an adhesion layer and 50-nm thick layer of gold (Au) on the semiinsulating GaAs substrate. We employed both the commercial software (CST Microwave Studio: Computer Simulation Technology GmbH, Darmstadt, Germany) based on a finite integration technique (FIT) and a rigorous coupled wave analysis (RCWA) to calculate transmittance and reflectance. The transmittance was measured at a normal incident, and the reflectance was measured at variable incident angle of range between $30^{\circ}{\sim}80^{\circ}$ with a Nicolet Fourier transmission infrared (FTIR) spectrometer with a KBr beam splitter and a MCT detector. For MHAs of pitch (P), the peaks ${\lambda}$ max in the normal incidence transmittance spectra can be indentified approximately from SP dispersion relation, that is frequency-dependent SP wave vector (ksp). Shown in Fig. 1 is the transmission of P=2.2 um sample at normal incidence. We attribute the observation to be a result of FTIR system may be able to collect the transmitted light with higher diffraction order than 0th order. This is confirmed by calculations: for the MHAs, diffraction efficiency in (0, 0) diffracted orders is lower than in the (${\pm}x$, ${\pm}y$) diffracted orders. To further investigate the result, we calculated the angular dependent transmission of P=2.2 um sample (Fig. 2). The incident angle varies from 30o to 70o with a 10o increment. We also found the splitting character on reflectance measurement. The splitting effect is considered a results of SPPs assisted diffraction process by oblique incidence.
There has been proposed many simplification algorithms for effectively decreasing large-volumed polygonal surface data. These algorithms apply their own cost function for collapse to one of fundamental simplification unit, such as vertex, edge and triangle, and minimize the simplification error occurred in each simplification steps. Most of cost functions adopted in existing works use the error estimation method based on distance optimization. Unfortunately, it is hard to define the local characteristics of surface data using distance factor alone, which is basically scalar component. Therefore, the algorithms cannot preserve the characteristic features in surface areas with high curvature and, consequently, loss the detailed shape of original mesh in high simplification ratio. In this paper, we consider the vector component, such as surface orientation, as one of factors for cost function. The surface orientation is independent upon scalar component, distance value. This means that we can reconsider whether or not to preserve them as the amount of vector component, although they are elements with low scalar values. In addition, we develop a simplification algorithm based on half-edge collapse manner, which use the proposed cost function as the criterion for removing elements. In half-edge collapse, using one of endpoints in the edge represents a new vertex after collapse operation. The approach is memory efficient and effectively applicable to the rendering system requiring real-time transmission of large-volumed surface data.

In this study, we propose bivariate skewness and kurtosis statistics and suggest a surface plot that can visually implement bivariate data containing the correlation coefficient. The skewness statistic is expressed in the form of a paired real values because this represents the skewed directions and degrees of the bivariate random sample. The kurtosis has a positive value which can determine how thick the tail part of the data is compared to the bivariate normal distribution. Moreover, the surface plot implements bivariate data based on the quantile vectors. Skewness and kurtosis are obtained and surface plots are explored for various types of bivariate data. With these results, it has been found that the values of the skewness and kurtosis reflect the characteristics of the bivariate data implemented by the surface plots. Therefore, the skewness, kurtosis and surface plot proposed in this paper could be used as one of valuable descriptive statistical methods for analyzing bivariate distributions.
