In this study, a surface generating system with a bundle of wires, which can reproduce a certain range of surface roughness of the objects without direct machining process, is implemented. The system consists of a bundle of wires, a PZT actuator, a vertical table system actuated linearly along two perpendicular axes, and an image processing system. Through the development of the operational software for all of those subsystems by a common language(Visual C++) of the implemented system, the complete process except arrangement of a bundle of wires are automated. Lastly, through the experiments of generating the flat surface of some virtual object and then of measuring the reproduced surface roughness, it is confirmed that the implemented system has excellent performance.

The wake-homing underwater guided weapon that detects and tracks wake generated during voyage of a surface ship is impossible to avoid with the present acoustic deception torpedo defense system. Therefore, research on bubble-generating wake decoy is necessary to deceive wake-homing underwater guided weapon. Experiments in various environments are required to verify the effective operation method and performance of the wake decoy, but performance verification through underwater experiment is limited. In this paper, we develop a simulator for an torpedo defense system of surface ship, which is applied bubble-generating wake decoy, against acoustic, wake, and hybrid homing underwater guided weapon attack. The simulator includes surface ship model, acoustic decoy(static, mobile) model, bubble-generating wake decoy model, search and motion model of underwater guided weapon and so on. By integrating various models, MATLAB GUI simulator was developed. Through the simulation results for various environmental variables by this simulator, it is judged that effective operation method and performance verification of the bubble-generating wake decoy can be performed.
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach is now playing an important role in the engineering process in these days. Generating proper grid system in time for the region of interest is prerequisite for the efficient numerical calculation of flow physics using CFD approach. Grid generation is, however, usually considered as a major obstacle for a routine and successful application of numerical approaches in the engineering process. CFD approach based on the unstructured grid system is gaining popularity due to its simplicity and efficiency for generating grid system compared to the structured grid approaches, especially for complex geometries. In this paper an automated triangular surface grid generation using CAD(Computer Aided Design) surface data is proposed. According to the present method, the CAD surface data imported in the STL(Stereo-lithography) format is processed to identify feature edges defining the topology and geometry of the surface shape first. When the feature edges are identified, node points along the edges are distributed. The initial fronts which connect those feature edge nodes are constructed and then they are advanced along the CAD surface data inward until the surface is fully covered by triangular surface grid cells using Advancing Front Method. It is found that this approach can be implemented in an automated way successfully saving man-hours and reducing human-errors in generating triangular surface grid system.

This report describes an integrated approach to sculptured surface design and manufacture, and a software package for it on a multi-axis NC milling machine. The integrated software consists of four parts : (1) surface fitting procedure for generating the characteristic polyhedron from 3 dimensional CMM data, (2) surface description for generating the mathematical representation of sculptured surfaces. (3) tool path generation for approximating the surface representation into a sequence of linear cutter paths, and (4) tool control for generating the corresponding joint variable values. This integrated approach is generally applicable to sculptured surface manufacturing where multi-axis milling machines are necessary to produce smooth three-dimensional surfaces.

To predict the viscous boundary layers and wakes around a ship, the CFD techniques are commonly used. For the efficient application of CFD tools to practical hull farms, a 3-D field grid generating system is developed. The present grid generating system utilizes the solution of Poisson equation. Sorenson's method developed for 2-D is extended into 3-D to provide the forcing functions controling grid interval and orthogonality on hull surface, etc. The weighting function scheme is used for the discretization of the Poisson equation and the linear equations are solved by using MSIP salver. The trans-finite interpolation is also employed to assure the smooth transition into boundary surface grids. To rove the applicability, the field grid systems around a container ship and a VLCC with bow and stem bulb are illustrated, and the procedures for generating 3-D field grid system are explained.

To promote the usability of CFD techniques for the basic hull form design, a hull surface mesh generating program, based on given station offsets and centerline profile, is developed. The new method employs non-uniform parametric splines with predetermined waterline end-shapes of natural spline, normal spline, ellipse, parabola hyperbola, and their combinations. Generated hull surface meshes can be utilized for potential panel method immediately and can be also used as a boundary grid surface for 3-D field grid system. Mesh topology chosen to represent hull surface can be transformed into a rectangle, which he1ps the flow solvers to transform surface meshes for the nonlinear free surface condition or to define the turbulence quantities. To prove the applicability, a container ship with bow and stem bulb is chosen, and the procedures generating hull surface meshes are described.

In order to develope piezoelectric transformer for the ballast of fluorescent lamp, a new shape and electrode pattern of piezoelectric transformer has been investigated in this work. The composition of piezoelectric ceramics was 0.95Pb(Zr$_{0.51}$Ti$_{0.49}$)O$_3$+0.03Pb(Mn$_{1}$3/Nb$_{2}$3/)O$_3$+0.02Pb(Sb$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_3$. The sample prepared by this composition system showed the characteristics which has about 1200 of relative dielecric constant, 1100 of the mechanical quality factor, 0.53 of the electromechanical coupling coefficient, 320 pC/N of the piezoelectric constant d$_{33}$, 0.3 % of the dissipation factor. Diameter and thickness of disk-type piezoelectric transformer was 45 mm and 4 mm, respectively. The driving and generating electrode with their gap of 1mm were fabricated on the top surface. But the common electrode was fabricated on the whole bottom surface. The electrode surface ratio of driving and generating part on the top surface ranges from 1.4:1 to 3:1. We investigated the electrical characteristics with the variation of the electrode surface ratio of driving and generating part in the range of load resistance of 100 $\Omega$~70 k$\Omega$. The set-up voltage ratio of this piezoelectric transformer increases with increasing both the electrode surface of driving part and the load resistance. The set-up voltage ratio at no load resistance was more than 60 times. On the other hand, the efficiency decreases with increasing the electrode surface of driving part. In the case of the electrode surface of both 1.4:1 and 2:1, maximum efficiency showed above 97 % at load resistance of 2 k$\Omega$. However, in the case of the electrode surface of 3:1, maximum efficiency showed about 94 % at load resistance of 3 k$\Omega$.>.>.>.
This study aims to analyze characteristics of Cell surface temperature and generated power performance for improving PV(Photovoltaic) system condition according to the cell opening ratio of transparent crystal PV system at Spandrel of curtain-wall. For this purpose, alternatives were classified for eight different cases that opening ratio of transparent crystal PV system varied from 0% to 70%, which was used by simulation tool, EnergyPlus. As results, it turned out that increasing opening ratio of transparent crystal PV system led higher PV surface temperature, back-sheet type was thus the most advantageous for decreasing surface temperature, annual generating efficiency, and annual accumulated generating power. Consequently, blocking off air space from outside insolation can advantageously keep to be better condition for generated power performance.
In this study, we present a comparison of multistage axial flux permanent-magnet machines (AFPMs) with different topologies for use as 100 W-class portable generating systems. Three topologies were selected, and the maximum power density and high level of efficiency were achieved by following the response surface methodology (RSM) in the design. Three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA) was used to conduct numerical experiments to obtain the optimum design using the RSM and suggest a proper configuration of the portable generating system.
