A synthetic infrared image can be effectively utilized in various fields such as the recognition and tracking of targets as long as its quality is good enough to reflect the real situations. One way to improve its quality is to use the reference atmosphere which best describes atmospheric properties of regional areas. The east asian reference atmosphere has been developed to represent atmospheric properties of the east asia including Korean peninsula. However, few research has been conducted to examine the effects of this east asian reference atmosphere on the modeling and simulation. In this regard, this paper analyzes the effects of the east asian reference atmosphere on a synthetic infrared image. The research compares the atmospheric transmittance, the surface temperature, and the radiance obtained by using the east asian reference atmosphere with those of the midlatitude reference atmosphere which has been widely applied in the east asia. The results show that the differences of the atmospheric transmittance, the surface temperature, and the radiance between the east asian reference atmosphere and the midlatitude reference atmosphere are significant especially during the daytime. Therefore, it is recommended to apply the east asian reference atmosphere for generating a synthetic infrared image with targets in the east asia.
After changing the heat treating atmosphere of nitrogen gas, argon gas and vacuum, the nitrogen contents, microstructural changes, hardness and corrosion resistance of 0.25wt.%N alloyed super duplex stainless steel have been investigated in the temperature range from $1050^{\circ}C$ to $1350^{\circ}C$. The nitrogen content showed to be increased up to 0.36wt.% after heat treating the specimen in nitrogen gas at $1200^{\circ}C$, while the decrement of nitrogen content in vacuum atmosphere was shown down to 0.03wt.% at $1350^{\circ}C$. After heat treating in the mixed gas atmosphere of argon and nitrogen at $1250^{\circ}C$, the surface ${\gamma}$ phase existed as ${\alpha}+{\gamma}$ phase increased with increasing nitrogen gas content. The ${\gamma}$ single phase appeared at the surface above $80%N_2$ gas, while the surface ${\alpha}$ single phase was shown below $20%N_2$ gas. When heat treating the specimen in nitrogen gas at $1050^{\circ}C$, the hardness of austenite phases increased above Hv 40 at the surface layer compared to the hardness of the core parts, while decrement of denitriding effect caused to the hardness nearly unchanged between surface and the core parts after heat treating in vacuum atmosphere. The surface ${\gamma}$ single phase specimen showed superior corrosion resistance than the surface ${\alpha}$ single phase specimen. The surface ${\alpha}$ phase existed in the ${\alpha}+{\gamma}$ microstructure showed higher corrosion resistance after heat treating in the nitrogen gas atmosphere than the ${\alpha}$ phase heat treated in the argon gas and vacuum atmosphere.
The spectral radiance received by a remote sensor at a given temperature and wavelength region is consisted of the self-emitted component directly from the object surface, the reflected component of the solar irradiation at the object surface, and the scattered component by the atmosphere without ever reaching the object surface. The IR image of a ship is mainly affected by location, meteorological condition(atmosphere temperature, wind direction and velocity, humidity etc.), atmospheric transmittance, solar position and ship surface temperature etc. Computer simulations for prediction of the IR signatures of ships are very useful to examine the effects of various meteorological conditions. In this paper, we have acquired the IR signature for different meteorological conditions by using two different computer programs. The numerical results show that the IR image contrast as compared to the background sea considering the atmosphere temperature and wind velocity.
A study has been made of surface modification of various organic materials by ion implantation to increase the surface electrical properties. The substrate used were PP(polypropylene), PET(polyethylene teraphthalate), ECOP(ethylene copolyester), PS(polystyrene). N$_2$, Ar ion implantation was performed at energies of 40 and 50keV with fluences from 5${\times}$ 10$\^$15/ to 7${\times}$10$\^$16/ ions/$\textrm{cm}^2$ with and without H$_2$O gas environment. Surface resistance decrease of implanted polymers was affected by ion implantation energy, ion species, atmosphere of chamber and kind of polymer. In result, surface conductivity of polymers irradiated with atmosphere gas H$_2$O was 10 times more higher than normal vacuum atmosphere, but after 90 hours, surface conductivity returned to the without H$_2$O gas atmosphere condition caused by aging effect. After vacuum forming, surface resistance value was changed to over 10$\^$16/$\Omega$/$\square$, because creation of surface cracks.
Honing, lapping, polishing and superfinishing are applied for a precision machining to finish the metal surface, but these precision machining are micro-cutting by hard and micro-abrasive grains. Frictional machining is the new method to finish mirrorlike surface without using those abrasive grains. The frictional machining produces high pressure and high temperature instantly by compressing a tool material against the metal surface in sliding motion. The metal surface is given plastic deformation and plastic flow by the above mentioned frictional motion, but the surface roughness of the metal surface is influenced by physical and chemical reaction in surrounding atmosphere. Therefore, the atmosphere around the metal optimum atmosphere in the frictional machining. The part 1 of the study was performed in liquid atmospheres. Diesel oil, lubricant, grease, lard oil, bean oil and cutting fluid were used as such atmospheres. Medium carbon steel SM 50 C was used as a workpiece and ceramic tip was applied as a frictional tool. The result of the experiment showed characteristic machining conditions to generate the best surface roughness in each atmospheres.
Downstream surface of the concrete gravity dam receives thermal stress due to atmosphere temperature change. So in this paper, the behaviors of crack located in the downstream surface were investigated, when considering the temperature change.
The amount of surface chlorides of architectural structure in incoming salt environment depends on the characteristics of distribution of incoming salt in atmosphere. Therefore, many researches are being conducted on deducting the correlation between incoming salt amount attached to the surface of real structure and that of atmosphere after quantitative measurement. However, in real environment, these studies are somewhat far fetched. That is because incoming salt in atmosphere are changed by various climatic conditions and in the case of the structures surface, attached incoming salt may be carried away due to the rainfall. Therefore, this study aims to draw an improved proportional relation between the amount of sodium chloride in atmosphere and that attached to the surface of architectural structures by measuring the amount attached to each architectural material using artificial incoming salt generator that can control various climatic variables that can be caused in real environment.
A land surface parameterization has been used to simulate influences of the terrestrial surface on the atmosphere. A simple biosphere model (SiB2), one of land surface parameterization, calculates exchange of radiation, sensible heat, latent heat, and momentum between the surface and the atmosphere (Sellers, et al., 1996).(omitted)
Effect of modified atmosphere packaging conditions on quality changes of dry jujube was investigated. Dry jujubes with moisture content of 26.7% were packaged in PET/Al/PE film pouches with modified atmospheres. The tested packages include those with normal air, vacuum, CO2 flushing, N2 flushing and O2 scavenger. Packages were stored at 25$^{\circ}C$ for 6 months, during which ascorbic acid concentration, browning level, titratable acidity and surface color were measured. Generally modified atmosphere packages could improve quality retention of dry jujubes except that vacuum package resulted in large surface color change. CO2-flushed package showed the best quality retention of high ascorbic acid content and low browning during 112 days, but caused high amounts of ascorbic acid destruction and browning in longer storage. In all the modified atmosphere packages titratable acidity reached a maximum followed by decline and subsequent rise, while it increased linearly with time in normal air package. Considering ascorbic acid retention browning level and surface color changes during 112 days, the packages of CO2 flushing and N2 flushing were better than others.
This paper is the logical follow-up of four papers by the author on the subject "aerodynamics in Mars atmosphere". The aim of the papers was to evaluate the influence of two Mars atmosphere models (NASA Glenn and GRAM-2001) on aerodynamics of a capsule (Pathfinder) entering the Mars atmosphere and also to verify the feasibility of evaluating experimentally the ambient density and the ambient pressure by means of the methods by McLaughlin and Cassanto respectively, therefore to correct the values provided by the models. The study was carried out computationally by means of: i) a code integrating the equations of dynamics of an entry capsule for the computation of the trajectories, ii) two Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) codes for the solution of the 2-D, axial-symmetric and 3-D flow fields around the capsule in the altitude interval 50-100 km. The computations verified that the entry trajectories of Pathfinder from the two models, in terms of the Mach, Reynolds and Knudsen numbers, were very different. The aim of the present paper is to continue this study, considering other aerodynamic problems and then to provide a contribution to a long series of papers on the subject "aerodynamics in Mars atmosphere". More specifically, the present paper evaluated and quantified the effects from the two models of: i) chemical reactions on aerodynamic quantities in the shock layer, ii) surface temperature, therefore of the contribution of the re-emitted molecules, on local (pressure, skin friction, etc.) and on global (drag) quantities, iii) surface recombination reactions (catalyticity) on heat flux. The results verified that the models heavily influence the flow field (as per the shock wave structure) but, apart from the surface recombination reactions, the effects of the different conditions on aerodynamics of the capsule are negligible for both models and confirmed what already found in the previous paper that, because of the higher values of density from the NASA Glenn model, the effects on aerodynamics of a entry capsule are stronger than those computed by the GRAM-2001 model.
