Real-time monitoring for environmental factors (temperature, salinity, chlorophyll-a, etc.) and fugacity of carbon dioxide ($fCO_2$) was conducted at an oyster Crassostrea gigas farm in Goseong Bay, south coast of Korea during 2-4th of November, 2011. Surface temperature and salinity were ranged from $17.9-18.7^{\circ}C$ and 32.7-33.8, respectively, with daily and inter-daily variations due to tidal currents. Surface $fCO_2$ showed a range of $390-510{\mu}atm$ and was higher than air $CO_2$ during the study period. Surface temperature, salinity and $fCO_2$ are showed significant correlations with chl.-a and nutrients, respectively. It means when chl.-a value is high in surface water of the oyster farm, active biological production consume $CO_2$ and nutrients from environments and produce oxygen, suggesting a tight feedback between biological processes and environmental reaction. Thus, factors affecting the surface $fCO_2$ were evaluated using a simple mass balance. Temperature and biological productions by phytoplankton are the main factors for $CO_2$ drawdown from afternoon to early night, while biological respiration increases seawater $CO_2$ at night. Air-sea exchange fraction acts as a $CO_2$ decreasing gear during the study period and is much effective when the wind speed is higher than $2-3m\;s^{-1}$. Future studies about organic carbon and biological production/respiration are required for evaluating the roles of oyster farms on carbon sink and coastal carbon cycle.
The surface magnetism of the CsCl structured Co binary compounds, CoX (X = Ti, V, Nb) (001) surface was studied with the calculated electronic structure data obtained by the full-potential linearized augmented plane-wave (FLAPW) method. The magnetic moment of the surface Co atom of the Co-terminated CoTi(001) system was $1.19{\mu}_B$, which is enhanced compared with that of the Co atom in the center layer. The magnetic moment of the surface V atom in the V terminated the CoV(001) system was $1.64{\mu}_B$, which is more than twice of the center layered V atom. The magnetic moment of surface Co atom in the Co terminated CoV(001) system has the value of $1.34{\mu}_B$, little bit smaller than the bulk value. The magnetism was disappeared in the Co terminated CoNb(001) system, and the magnetic moment of the surface Nb atom in the Nb terminated CoNb(001) system was $0.26{\mu}_B$ which is little bit decreased compared to the center layer value.
As one of the key parameters to determine $CO_2$ flux between air - sea interface, it is quite important to know p$CO_2$, which has involved much uncertainty, mainly due to the complex variations of sea surface p$CO_2$ and the paucity of samples, made in ocean. In order to improve the interrelationship between partial pressure (p$CO_2$) and different physical and biochemical parameters in global sea surface water, a new empirical relation is established to correlate and parameterize p$CO_2$ in the mixed layer using the data from recent WOCE cruises. Meanwhile, by new empirical relation, abundant historical hydrographic and nutrients ship data, Levitus data set and NOAA/AVHRR(SST), p$CO_2$ have been accumulated and applied. Then effort has to be made fur promotion of this study to correlate and parameterize p$CO_2$ in the mixed Layer with different physical and biochemical parameters. and further attribute this huge historical data sets and NOAA/AVHRR(SST) data to estimate p$CO_2$. In this paper we analyzed more interrelationship between the model and ship/satellite data set. Finally, the inter-annual variations of p$CO_2$ in sea are presented and discussed.
Comparing the adsorption properties and dissociation on a Pt(111) iththat ona Fe(111) surface, we have con-sidered seven coordination modes of the adsorbed binding site: $di-${\sigma}$${\Delta}$\mu\pi/\mu$, 1-fbld,2-fold, and 3-fbld sites. On the Pt(111) surface, t he adsorbed binding site of carbon dioxide was strongestat the1-fold site and weakest at the $\pi/\mu-site.$ The adsorbed binding site on the Fe(111) surface was strongest at the di-бsite and weakest at the 3-fold site. We have found that the binding energy at each site that excepted 3-fold on the Fe(111) surface was stronger than the binding energy on the Pt(111) surface and that chemisorbed $CO_2bends$ because of metal mixing with $2\piu${\rightarrow}$6a_1CO_2orbital.$, The dissociation reaction occured in two steps, with an intermediate com-plex composed of atomic oxygen and ${\pi}bonding$ CO forming. The OCO angles of reaction intermediate com-plex structure for the dissociation reaction $were115^{\circ}Con$ the Pt(111), and $117^{\circ}C$ on the Fe(111) surface. We have found that the $CO_2dissociation$ rea11) surface proceeds easily, with an activationenergy about 0.2 eV lower than that on the Pt(111) surface.

In order to monitor greenhouse gases including $CO_2$, various types of surface-, aircraft-, and satellite-based measurement projects have been conducted. These data help understand the variations of greenhouse gases and are used in atmospheric inverse modeling systems to simulate surface fluxes for greenhouse gases. CarbonTracker is a system for estimating surface $CO_2$ flux, using an atmospheric inverse modeling method, based on only surface observation data. Because of the insufficient surface observation data available for accurate estimation of the surface $CO_2$ flux, additional observations would be required. In this study, a system that assimilates aircraft $CO_2$ measurement data in CarbonTracker (CT2013B) is developed, and the estimated results from this data assimilation system are evaluated. The aircraft $CO_2$ measurement data used are obtained from the Comprehensive Observation Network for Trace gases by the Airliner (CONTRAIL) project. The developed system includes the preprocessor of the raw observation data, the observation operator, and the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) data assimilation process. After preprocessing the raw data, the modeled value corresponding spatially and temporally to each observation is calculated using the observation operator. These modeled values and observations are then averaged in space and time, and used in the EnKF data assimilation process. The modeled values are much closer to the observations and show smaller biases and root-mean-square errors, after the assimilation of the aircraft $CO_2$ measurement data. This system could also be used to assimilate other aircraft $CO_2$ measurement data in CarbonTracker.

The surface morphology, the glossiness and the hardness of Zn-Cr and Zn-Cr-X(X:Co, Mn) alloy electrodeposits were investigated by using chloride bath with EDTA additive and flow cell system. The surface morphology of Zn-Cr alloy and Zn-Cr-Mn alloy changed from fine needle shape crystalline structure to colony structure of fine granular crystallites with increasing current density in the range of 20-100 $A/dm^2$. The surface morphology of Zn-Cr-Co alloy deposited from low Co concentration bath(2.5-10 g/$\ell$) was similar to that of Zn-Cr alloy, while that of Zn-Cr-Co alloy deposited from high cobalt concentration bath was fine granular crystalline structure in the same range of current density. The glossiness of Zn-Cr and Zn-Cr-Mn alloy increased noticeably with increasing current density, while that of Zn-Cr-Mn alloy decreased with increasing Mn concentration of bath in high current density region. The glossiness of Zn-Cr-Co alloy deposited from low Co concentration bath increased with current density while that of the alloy from high Co concentration bath decreased with increasing current density. The hardness of Zn-Cr and Zn-Cr-X alloy increased noticeably with current density.
The electronic structures, magnetism, and half-metallicity of the full-Heusler $Co_2TiSn$(001) surfaces have been investigated by using the all-electron full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method within the generalized gradient approximation. We have considered both of the Co atoms terminated(Co-term) and the TiSn atoms terminated(TiSn-term) surfaces. From the calculated density of states, we found that the half-metallicity was destroyed at the surface of the Co-term, while the half-metallicity was retained at the TiSn-term. For the surface of the Co-term, due to the reduced coordination number the occupied minority d-states were shifted to high energy regions and that cross the Fermi level, thus destroy the surface half-metallicity. On the other hand the surface states at the surface of the TiSn-term were located just below the Fermi level, which reduces the minority spin-gap with respect to that of the center layer. The calculated magnetic moment of the surface Co atom for the Co-term was increased by 10 % to 1.16 ${\mu}_B$ with respect to that of the inner-layers, while the magnetic moment of the subsurface Co atom in the TiSn-term has almost same value of the innerlayers(1.03 ${\mu}_B$).
The importance of secondary battery industry is getting excited according to the development of battery industry as a high efficiency energy supplier of electronic machine of mobile information such as mobile phone, lap-top computer, PDA. It is rasing the interest about security of safety and high efficiency of cathode material for main part of secondary lithium battery. Sulfamate-chloride baths were fabricated to study the properties of the electrodeposited Ni and NiCo thin films. The dependences of current efficiency, deposit composition of Ni and Co, residual stress, surface morphology and microstructure of electrodeposited Ni and NiCo thin films on CoCl2 concentration in sulfamate-chloride baths were investigated. The current efficiency was measured to be more than about 90%, independent of the changes of CoCl2 concentration in the baths. Residual stress of Ni and NiCo thin films was increased from about 45 to about 250 MPa with varying CoCl2 concentration from 0 to 0.210 M CoCl2 in the baths and then reached to a plateau, about 250 MPa above 0.420 M CoCl2 concentration. Nodular surface morphologies were observed at most CoCl2 concentrations in the baths except 0.210 M. NiCo thin film electrodeposited from the bath with 0.210 M CoCl2 concentration showed an acicular surface morphology. Pure Ni thin film consists of FCC(111), FCC(200), FCC(220), and FCC(311) peaks without any preferred orientation. On the other hand NiCo thin films make up of HCP(100), FCC(111), HCP(101), FCC(200), FCC(220) or HCP(110), FCC(311) or HCP(112) and FCC(222) peaks. It was revealed from the analysis of XRD result that FCC(111) peak at the NiCo thin film electrodeposited from the bath with 0.084 M CoCl2 concentration can be regarded as the preferred orientation. However the peak of the preferred orientation was changed to FCC(220) or HCP(110) above 0.084 M CoCl2 concentration in the baths. Then the intensity of FCC(220) or HCP(110) peak was gradually decreased with increasing CoCl2 concentration further. The crystalline size of pure Ni thin film was observed to be about 53 ㎛ and those of NiCo thin films were in the range of 35~45 ㎛.

Crucially, effective catalysts must be capable of efficiently catalyzing the protonation of adsorbed CO to adsorbed CHO or COH. One of the strategies is alloying with metals with higher oxygen affinity and Au-Zn alloy is one of the best candidates. At first, we made Au-Zn alloy using vacuum evaporating method. Zn was deposited on the Au(211) surface and the amount was estimated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) using the relative sensitivity of Au 4f and Zn 3d. We investigated CO adsorption on a clean Au(211) and Au-Zn alloy using temperature-programmed desorption (TPD) and XPS. From the TPD results, we can conclude that the presence of the particular step sites at the Au(211) surface imparts stronger CO bonding and Zn atoms are sitting on the step sites at the Au(211) when Zn is deposited. The XPS results show the oxygen atoms of CO bond Zn atoms on Au-Zn surface. It should be an evidence that alloying Zn atoms that has high oxygen affinity into an electrocatalyst may allow CHO* to bind to the surface through both the carbon and oxygen atoms.
