  • The immunological mechanism of the responses to ultraviolet (UV) B radiation in mouse models were investigated by the suppression of contact hypersensitivity (CHS) and delayed type hypersensitivity (DTH), and susceptibility to infection. However, there are some differences in immune suppression according to the different models as well as the irradiation protocols. Therefore, this review focused on the differences in the suppressive effects on CHS and DTH, and susceptibility to infection in relation to the different in vivo models. Recent advances in cytokine knockout mice experiments have the reexamination of the role of the critical cytokines in UVB-induced immune suppression, which was investigated previously by blocking antibodies. The characteristics of the suppressor cells responsible for UVB-induced tolerance were determined. The subcellular mechanism of UVB-induced immune suppression was also explained by the induction of apoptotic cells through the Fas and Fas-ligand interaction. The phagocytosis of the apoptotic cells is believed to induce the production of the immune suppressive cytokine like interleukin-10 by macrophages. Therefore, the therapeutic UVB response to a skin disease, such as psoriasis, by the depletion of infiltrating T cells could be considered in the extension line of apoptosis and immune suppression.

  • Large eddy simulation of a circular jet at the Reynolds number of 10000 is performed to investigate turbulence suppression effect with single frequency excitation at the non-dimensional frequency of 0.017. Instantaneous flow fields show that, with excitation, naturally occurring energetic vortices are suppressed through earlier saturation and breakdown of the shear layer vortices into fine grained turbulence. Due to the excitation, the Reynolds stresses are larger for the excited case near the jet and turbulence suppression begins afterward. The Reynolds normal stresses show largest suppression in the shear layer near the jet and in the centerline further downstream, while the Reynolds shear stress shows largest suppression in the shear layer at all the downstream locations.

  • Water mist fire suppression system is environmental system and needs a flange pump to jet water. In this research, high pressure Nitrogen cylinder is used as a pressurizing source instead of flange pump, and also we tried to find the possibility of using compressed Nitrogen as a fire suppression agent. As a result, it was possible to design water mist fire suppression system with Nitrogen cylinder and suppress oil fire effectively. With DK1.58 nozzle, the optimum Nitrogen pressure was 80bar and the pressure was stable during water mist spray. However, jet of Nitrogen was not effective fire suppression agent when it was dually used with water mist because water mist has blown away, and it is efficient way to use compressed Nitrogen as a pressurizing source only.

  • The effect of inband TDMA narrow band jammers to DS-CDMA system performance and the suppression techniques are investigated using Monte Carlo simulations. TIA stantard North American Digital Cellular wea used as jammer. Levinson Dubin and conventional recursive least square algorithm were emphasized since these techniques can be implemented with a few DSPs for CDMA application. Two filter structures, i.e., complex suppression filter and real suppression filter in each inphase and quadrature channels, are investigated and their performances are compared. Complex suppression filter with Levinson Durbin algorithm of 20msec updata rate is the most promising with respect to implementation and performance poit of view. Implementation feasibility is discussed and the channel capacity lost by suppression is computed.

  • This study analyzed how the installation of a pressure gauge in the indoor fire hydrant of an apartment building affected identifying pressurized water in the pipe, making it easier to conduct internal inspection on the fire suppression system, and ensuring reliability of fire suppression. The following are the study's results: First, identifying pressurized water in the indoor firefighting pipe had a positive effect on the installation of a pressure gauge in the indoor fire hydrant. This implies that a higher level of identification of pressurized water in the indoor firefighting pipe had a positive impact on improving the installation and use of a pressure gauge in the indoor fire hydrant. Second, making it easier for the fire safety officer to inspect the fire suppression system had a positive effect on the installation of a pressure gauge in the indoor fire hydrant. This suggests that if it becomes easier for the apartment building's stakeholder to conduct internal inspection or the firefighting facility manager to carry out inspection on the fire suppression system, it would have a positive effect on the installation of a pressure gauge in the indoor fire hydrant. Finally, ensuring reliability in fire suppression had a positive effect on the installation of a pressure gauge in the indoor fire hydrant. This implies that if it becomes easier to identify pressurized water in the indoor firefighting pipe, for the fire safety officer to conduct internal inspection, or for the firefighting facility manager to carry out inspection in accordance with the fire suppression system's internal inspection requirements, it would increase reliability in fire suppression, making it more necessary to install a pressure gauge in the indoor fire hydrant.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel approach to residual echo suppression (RES) algorithm based on tracking echo-presence uncertainty (TEPU) to improve the performance of acoustic echo suppression (AES) in the frequency domain. In the proposed method, the ratio of the microphone input and the echo-suppressed output signal power is employed as the threshold value for the decision rule to estimate the echo-presence uncertainty applied to the RES filter. The proposed RES scheme estimates the echo presence uncertainty in each frequency bin and effectively reduces residual echo signal in a simple fashion. The performance of the proposed algorithm is evaluated by the objective test and yields better results compared with the conventional schemes.

  • Compton suppression apparatus using the Compton scattering response, by inhibiting part of the spectrum Compton continuum Compton continuum in the area of the peak analysis of the gamma rays that enables a clearer device. In order to find out the geometry structure of high-purity germanium detector(HPGe) -NaI(TI) and to optimize the effect of movement, Monte Carlo simulation was used to grasp the behavioral characteristics of Compton suppression and compare several layout structures. And applied to the cylinder beaker used for the environmental measurement by using the efficiency according to the distance. For the low-energy source such as 81 keV, the Compton continuum is scarcely developed and the suppression effect is also insignificant because the scattering cross-section of the Compton effect is relatively low. In the spectrum for the remaining energy, it can be seen that the Compton continuum part is suppressed in a certain energy range. Compton suppression effect was not significantly different from positional shift. average reduction factor(ARF) value was about 1.08 for 81 keV and about 1.23 for 1332.4keV energy at the highest value. It can be seen that suppression over the Compton continuum region of the energy spectrum is a more appropriate arrangement. Therefore, it can be applied to various environmental sample measurement through optimized structure.

  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) has chemical shift phenomenon between fat and water, and the phenomenon has influence on structure enclosed by fat. Strong signals emitted from fat often generate false artefact, which reflects the importance of fat suppression techniques. There have been a number of researches on fat suppression techniques, but using fat suppression method alone in MRI can cause difficultproblems in diagnosis. This paper aims to study a fat suppression method by Chemical Shift Selective saturation(CHESS). This research describes the theoretical background and the experiment on water and fat phantom with MR instruments. In the experiment, CHESS pulse was designed by utilising Matlap program, and the pulse diagram was generated for the Pre-saturation process. The experiment using water and fat phantom was applied to C-spine, L-spine and Breast, and produced successful fat suppression results. This experiment has proved that the CHESSpulse fat suppression is a very helpful technique in diagnosing medical imaging. This method is a robust and useful technique for both clinical and basic investigators..(Experiment with Chungnam national university hospital G.E 1.5T MR)

  • In this paper, performance of a PN code acquisition scheme is analyzed and simulated for a DS/CDMA overlay system where a CDMA user and a narrowband user coexist in the same frequency band. To suppress the NBI, an interference suppression filter is employed at the receiver front-end. From the simulation results, it is shown that the interference suppression filter is very effective for suppression of the NBI and rapid PN code acquisition in a DS/CDMA overlay environment. It is also shown that the one-sided tap number of 5 fur interference suppression filter is sufficient to suppress the NBI.
