  • As Korea expanded the leisure time and improved national incomes, the interest and demand on marine leisure activities are increasing. However, most marina ports did not have port facilities to support these demands. This paper suggests the improvement for marina port based on researches and analysis of status on present domestic marina port and port facilities. This is for the improvement of marina management of user-centered marine leisure activities.

A Study on Automatic Bridge Lantern Support for Safe Bridge Lantern Inspection (안전한 교량등 점검을 위한 자동 교량등 지지대에 관한 연구)

  • Bridge lanterns are installed on bridges or piers to signal the presence of these structures on navigational routes and navigable waters, and they fall under the category of light wave signals in Aids to Navigation. In Korea, medium to large bridges installed over major rivers and seas are equipped with bridge lanterns, which are necessary for routes frequented by ships and require periodic inspections on a monthly or multi-month basis. However, most bridge lanterns are mounted externally on bridge railings as fixed or manual rotary supports, posing a high risk of fatal falls during inspections. Furthermore, high -traffic bridges demand quick maintenance works due to complaints about traffic disruption, thus increasing work hazards. Consequently, this study introduced a tailored automatic bridge lantern support concept based on different types of bridge lantern installations, aiming for safe and rapid inspections. Additionally, the study sought to achieve full automation of the bridge lighting system by integrating it with a management program for monitoring and controlling bridge lanterns, utilizing both wired and wireless communication technologies. These findings provide foundational design data for new and refurbished bridges that will be installed in the future.

  • Currently, ECDIS and GPS plotters are much used as equipment providing operators with route information, but they do not have any function of automatic route creation and route explanation, so available for only experienced operators. Especially, the present situation is tint no study is made of the automatic route creation and route explanation using ENC for ECDIS, substitution system of paper chart. ENC is the electronic navigation chart that is produced using S-52, S-57 standard format required by IHQ. In this paper, an Vessel Operator Support System(VOSS) is proposed to generate an optimal route where ENC and GPS data is fusioned induding the wind direction and speed of an anemometer and tide data. The proposed system was testified by a simulation, and its effectiveness was verified.

  • After patrol corvett Cheonan was hit and sank on duty, the Republic of Korea Navy has tried to install hybrid propulsion system on naval ship to reduce vibration and noise problems during navigation. The hybrid propulsion system has advantage that propulsion motor can be propelled in low speed operation of the vessel. This can be a better quietness than a mechanical propulsion system which consists of a conventional internal combustion engines. And more economical operation is possible by using a propulsion motor in a low speed operation where a fuel efficiency of the internal combustion engine is poor. In this paper, we set up virtual ship on the basis of a combat support ship in the Republic of Korea Navy, economically compared and analyzed fuel consumption between conventional and hybrid propulsion system. As a result, it was confirmed that the fuel efficiency of hybrid propulsion system which use electric motor had been relatively improved.

  • A space system refers to a network of sensors, ground systems, and space-craft operating in space. The security of space systems relies on information systems and networks that support the design, launch, and operation of space missions. Characteristics of space operations, including command and control (C2) between space-craft (including satellites) and ground communication, also depend on wireless frequency and communication channels. Attackers can potentially engage in malicious activities such as destruction, disruption, and degradation of systems, networks, communication channels, and space operations. These malicious cyber activities include sensor spoofing, system damage, denial of service attacks, jamming of unauthorized commands, and injection of malicious code. Such activities ultimately lead to a decrease in the lifespan and functionality of space systems, and may result in damage to space-craft and, lead to loss of control. The Cybersecurity Adversarial Tactics, Techniques, and Common Knowledge (ATT&CK) matrix, proposed by Massachusetts Institute of Technology Research and Engineering (MITRE), consists of the following stages: Reconnaissance, Resource Development, Initial Access, Execution, Persistence, Privilege Escalation, Defense Evasion, Credential Access, Discovery, Lateral Movement, Collection, Command & Control, Exfiltration, and Impact. This paper identifies cybersecurity activities in space systems and satellite navigation systems through the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)'s standard documents, former U.S. President Trump's executive orders, and presents risk management activities. This paper also explores cybersecurity's tactics attack techniques within the context of space systems (space-craft) by referencing the Sparta ATT&CK Matrix. In this paper, security threats in space systems analyzed, focusing on the cybersecurity attack tactics, techniques, and countermeasures of space-craft presented by Space Attack Research and Tactic Analysis (SPARTA). Through this study, cybersecurity attack tactics, techniques, and countermeasures existing in space-craft are identified, and an understanding of the direction of application in the design and implementation of safe small satellites is provided.

A Study on Determination of Initial Principal Dimension for High-Speed Boat using Existing Boat DB (실적선 DB를 이용한 고속보트 초기 주요치수 결정에 관한 연구)

  • Designers need a lot of information to determine the principal dimensions in the initial stage of boat design, and most of the information they need can be obtained by investigating and analyzing similar existing boat data. In addition, the principal dimensions that are determined have an impact throughout the design process (basic/detailed design), which in turn leads directly to the stability and performance of the boat. Therefore, in this study, the initial design system for the boat (design support platform) was developed using a correlation analysis with existing data for more than 700 boats. It was confirmed that the designer could conveniently and reasonably derive and determine the principal dimensions for a boat in the initial design stage, for the 50ft-class of small and high-speed boats.

  • An aircraft carrier is a combat ship that acts as an aircraft base at sea and performs combat through aircraft mounted as a military ship operating the aircraft. The Navy proposed a 40,000-ton light aircraft carrier operation plan that could be equipped with vertical takeoff and landing fighter jets and helicopters around 2033, and based on this, this study examined the operation of aircraft control equipment among the aviation support systems required for operating light aircraft carriers in Korea. PriFly, TWR's ILARTS, ILM for airspace control, ASR, PAR, LAAS or RNAV, PALS (JPALS) for access control are required as essential equipment, and communication network and SCATT-16 are required along with URN-25 TACAN, ICLS (El/Az), ACLS OLS, MOVAS, IFLOLS, etc. This study consists of two parts, and part 2 will describe a specific control method on an aircraft carrier.

Development of Integrated System for Safety Assessment of Damaged Ship (손상선박의 안전성 평가를 위한 통합시스템 개발)

  • The number of marine accidents have been decreased since various equipments for navigation control have been introduced to the marine vessels. However, disastrous marine accidents such as ship collisions are occurred more frequently. Therefore, IMO(International Maritime Organization) is enforcing the design requirement of structural strength for marine vessel. Also EU countries are developing new design methodologies and design tools to suggest the design guidance which can minimize the damage of commercial vessels in case of marine collision accidents. In this study, an integrated design system for the safety assessment has been presented to enhance the safety of damaged ships in marine collision accidents. The architecture of system is described by use-cases and IDEF functional analysis. Then an integrated system for safety assessment of damaged ship which is considering both damage stability and structural safety has been developed to support the ship design in early stage.

  • We proposes integrated information system, Service Robot Information System(SRIS), for mobile robot. The system has objectives that can heir efficient management and sharing as support information for mobile service robot like recognition, navigation, manipulation and modeling. This paper introduces the concert and architecture of SRIS. An Implementation is done by using ER based database and CAD modeling which is DXF format. The experimental shows the result of object and environment map matching by SLAM. This system is expected that can help reduce the cost and efforts of information management under multiple mobile robot environment.

  • Vessel PMS (Planned Maintenance System) is a paper and/or software based system to monitor vessel engine equipment including main propulsion, steering, auxiliary machinery and cargo handling information. This is one of mandatory survey for vessel introduced by IMO (International Maritime Organization). The planned maintenance as well as documentation must be performed according to a system to be approved by classification agencies. Recently, vessel owners have preferred software based systems to collect and preserve accurate data. However, not ship specific and not taking into account the user are said by end users as operational difficulties. To relieve these concerns, this research analyzes vessel PMS data, suggests a middleware to support automatic collection and design consideration of user interface.
