  • To realize the mass customization entails the optimized supply chain design for efficiently producing and delivering the various products. In this study, we considered the problem obtaining the optimized production policy under the situation wherein the multiple products are apportioned into multiple parallel production facilities. More specifically, the production set-up costs incurs according to whether the production facilities are utilized or not. The facility-dependent set-up costs increase the problem complexity in solving the production apportioning problem for multiple products. This problem can be formulated as concave minimization problem, which is known as NP-hard problem. In this paper, a heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve two conjoint problems : one is to select the cost-effective facilities from alternative multiple production facilities and the other is to apportion the production lot to those selected facilities.

  • In today's rapidly changing business environment, quality of responsiveness to customer requirements for short order cycles and on time delivery is becoming more important and considered as one of critical success factors in supply chain management. Yet despite its importance on reducing transportation cost and improving customer service, little attention has been given to the transportation planning system in Korea SI industry. In this paper, we present development of transportation planning system especially to deal with vehicle routing problem which has the goal to minimize the costs of daily transportation operation and to maximize customer delivery service. The system architecture with other enterprise application is presented and real-world constraints are well incorporated into the system by combining constraints programming and meta heuristics.

  • Because of the recent development of radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies, various systems for RFID have been proposed. and it expected to become pervasive and ubiquitous. offers tantalizing benefits for supply chain management, inventory control, and many other applications. recently, however, has the convergence of lower cost and increased capabilities made businesses take a hard look at what RFID can do fer them. In this paper, We propose the real-time RFID face recognition system using Hippocampus neuron modeling algorithm(HNMA) and PCA-LDA mixture algorithm. this system store an extracted face-feature in tag and uses for individual authentication.

  • Green supply chain management(GSCM) has emerged as an organizational system which helps organizations and their parter to achieve corporate profit by reducing environmental risk and cost. The main objective of this study is to investigate the relationship among organizational factors(manager support and organizational learning), GSCM practices(investment recovery and eco-design) and GSCM performance based on the BSC. Using a sample of 125 Korean companies, path analysis is used to test the research model. The results shows that the manager support has a positive effect on the investment recovery and eco-design. The results also suggest that the organizational learning directly affect the investment recovery, but do not affect the eco-design. The investment recovery and eco-design have effect on the GSCM performance. In addition, the competitive pressure has moderating effects on most of the relationships between the organizational factors and GSCM practices. This findings provides useful insights for managers seeking to adopt GSCM practices, and also provide useful guidelines for researchers to study GSCM performance.

  • As order quantity is increased, the ordering cost per item will be cheaper due to saving of transportation and material handling costs. In this paper, two realistic assumptions such as quantity discount and budget limit are considered. Quantity discount means that all units in the order will be discounted according to the predetermined order levels. Budget limit represents that the costs for inventory investments are bounded. This paper develops a Lagrangian relaxation approach for a continuous review inventory model with a budget constraint and quantity discounts. Computational results indicate that the proposed approach provides a good solution. Sensitivity analysis is done to get some insights on budget limit and quantity discount. As budget limit or the amount of discount according to order quantity is increased, order quantity is increased, whereas reorder point is not always increased.

  • The central issue in this particular research is the seemingly inadequate achievement of optimum performance in the construction process, either with respect to value for money for the client and the entire construction supply chain or value in terms of the utility derived from built assets in spite of efforts by government and governmental bodies such as the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb) to increase industry performance. Therefore, based upon an extensive review of related literature, the paper reports on effects and causes of non-value adding activities in the construction industry in general, and South African construction in particular. The research findings indicate that activities that can be referred to as non-value activities are not only prevalent, but they can also be held responsible for performance related issues in terms of cost, time, quality and health and safety (H&S) in construction; and the exploration of pluralism in the research methodology may result in a robust model based upon the system dynamics approach.

  • A centralized inventory system provides a number of stores with cost reduction, information sharing. In this paper, transportation costs are included in the inventory model. To build centralized warehouses, two things should be considered: how many warehouses are required and where these are located. The objective of this paper is to develop efficient heuristics to determine the location and the number of central warehouses by minimizing total costs. Throughout some computational experiments, the results of the heuristics are compared with an optimal solution.

  • RFID technology offers the possibility that tools and valuable supplies tagged with RFID devices could be tacked down automatically. Such automated tool tracking has the potential to reduce theft, identify underutilized tools to be relocated, insure that crafts have access to the appropriate tools as needed, and reduce overhead labor cost of managing tools. Although other industries have been busy to enhance their supply chain management using RFID technology, construction professionals may be wondering whether it works reliably in construction jobsites as well. This paper presents a field test conducted to determine the reliability of RFID technology in identifying tools in the field storage box. The test indicated that RFID technology is reliable in inventorying tools in field storage.

  • Supermarket Franchising, as a relatively new mode of retail business, is often regarded as one of the two hallmarks of the "Modern Logistics Revolution". After more than ten years of development, franchise supermarkets have been a rising force in retail business in China. As a product of a highly-developed commercial economy, franchise supermarkets mainly deals in foodstuffs and other daily necessities, featuring low cost, high turnover rate, low prices and diversified inventory. Propelled by the conveniences that come with open shelves and self-service shopping, franchise supermarkets have been growing very rapidly and the rise of many franchise supermarket brands bears testimony to its growth potential and profitability. Meanwhile, in the backdrop of this boom, some franchise supermarkets are going bankrupt. This paper analyzes the current status of franchise supermarkets and some factors bearing on their core competencies, so as to close the competitiveness gap with international retail giants.

  • As the global semiconductor supply chain falters, major countries are pushing to increase their self-sufficiency in semiconductors. In accordance with these global changes, R&D cooperation is evolving in the semiconductor industry. Previously, as for the case of Interuniversity Microelectronics Center (IMEC) in Europe, many cooperation initiatives were established regardless of nationality for improving productivity through measures such as reducing the time and cost required for joint research. Recently, however, cooperation aimed at strengthening one's own industry has been prominent, such as that led by Taiwan Semiconductor Research Institute (TSRI) and the United States National Semiconductor Technology Center (NSTC). Hence, the Korean semiconductor industry also needs to respond. Internally, technology localization should be promoted by strengthening the foundation for domestic R&D cooperation, while externally, it should expand close cooperation with companies from countries leading the semiconductor industry, such as the United States, Europe, and Japan.
