  • A local-step optimization method is proposed to supplement the global-step optimization methods which adopt online update mode of internal weights and error energy as stop criterion in learning of multilayer perceptrons (MLPs). This optimization method is applied to the standard online error backpropagation(EBP) and the performance is evaluated for a speaker verification system.

An Exploratory Study on the Meaning of Visual Scaffolding in Teaching and Learning Contexts

  • This study aims to conduct a literature review on visual scaffolding. Visual scaffolding, as a support for learning, employs various forms of visual objects which can be either content-independent or content-dependent and the types of which would be abstract-verbal, concrete-verbal, concrete-visual, or abstract visual. The effectiveness of visual scaffolding can be argued in the following three aspects: 1) explicit representation of information and emphasis of critical features in effective and efficient manner, 2) supplement of additional information, 3) structural understanding with decrease in cognitive load. The limitations of the study and the suggestions for future study are discussed.

  • 교육은 정보를 받아들이는 가장 큰 통로의 하나라 할 수 있다. 유비쿼터스 시대를 맞이하면서 새로운 교육기술과 환경이 요구되고 이에 따른 많은 기술이 등장하고있다. 현재의 e-learning 또한 많은 요구점들을 해결하기위해 많은 변화가 이루어질 필요가있다. 본 논문서는 언제 어디서나, 어떤 내용에 관계없이 학습할수있는 유비쿼터스환경의 e-learning 모델을 위하여 기존 e-learning 모델의 한계점을 분석하고, 유비쿼터스 네트워크망과 차세대 센서기술등을 적용하여 SCORM표준안을 기반으로한 LMS에 학습콘텐츠의 변환서비스와 협력 학습서비스기능을 추가한 유비쿼터스 환경에 대응하는 LMS모델을 제안하였다. 학습형태 변환서비스는 센서 기술에 의해서 학습자의 주변상황을 감지 하거나 신체상태를 파악하여 스마트 센서로 정보화하여 학습자에게 가장 적합한 형태로 콘텐츠를 서비스해준다. Orestia SOB등의 센싱기술의 접목은 보다 원활한 협력학습 서비스를 가능케 해줄것이다.

대학에서 수학 클리닉의 필요성과 효과에 관한 연구 - H 대학교를 중심으로 - (A study on the necessity and the effects of mathematics clinic in university - Focused on the H university -)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 대학수학에서 보충학습의 의미를 가진 클리닉에 대한 경험적 사례를 제공하여 그 필요성에 언급하는데 있다. 수학 클리닉은 크게 튜터링과 문제풀이 프로그램으로 구성되어 있다. 튜터링의 경우 개인 중심의 학습형태를 넘어서 구성원간의 상호작용학습을 함으로서 학업성취도를 증가시키는 것을 핵심 가치로 하며, 문제풀이의 경우 스스로 문제를 해결할 수 있는 동기부여를 주는데 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 H대학교의 운영사례로부터 수학 클리닉이 학업성취도에 미치는 효과를 검정하였다. 그 결과로 두 개의 프로그램 모두 (튜터링과 문제풀이) 학업성취도를 유의미하게 향상시켰으며 두 프로그램을 모두 참여한 학생에게서 그 효과가 특히 뛰어났다. 또한, 튜터링 프로그램보다 문제풀이 프로그램이 학업성취도에 더 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다.

A Proposal of Dietary Supplement from Choto-san, a Kampo Medicine

  • Therapeutic effect of a Kampo medicine, Choto-san, in patients with vascular dementia was demonstrated by a double-blind and placebo-controlled clinical trial. To clarify the therapeutic efficacy of Choto-san, anti-ischemic effect in mice, hypotensive effect in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR), anti-oxidative effects in vitro, and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor-blocking activity using Xenopus oocytes were studied. (1) Pretreatment with Choto-san (0.75-6.O g/kg, P.O.) or a component herb Chotoko (Uncaria genus: 75 - 600 mg/kg, P.O.) prevented ischemia-induced impairment of spatial learning behaviour in mice. Indole alkaloids- and phenolic fractions extracted from Chotoko also improved significantly the learning deficit. (2) Subchronic administration of Choto-san (0.5 g/kg, p.o.) caused a significant hypotensive effects in SHR. (3) Choto-san, Chotoko, and the phenolic constituent, (-) epicatechin, significantly protected the NG108-15 cell injury induced by $H_20_2$ exposure in vitro and also inhibited lipid peroxidation in the brain homogenate. (4) Indole alkaloids, rhynchophylline and isorhynchophylline (1-100 uM), reversibly reduced NMDA-induced current in the receptor-expressed Xenopus oocytes. These results suggest that anti-vascular dementia effects of Choto-san are mainly due to the effect of Chotoko. From these results, it is possible to make a novel dietary supplement through several extraction steps from Chotoko.

한국어 교육에서의 인스타그램 활용 가능성 탐색 -미국 대학교의 사례를 중심으로- (Exploring the Instructional Use of Instagram for Korean Language Learning)

  • This study explored how a particular social media can be used to supplement elementary-level Korean language course in the US public university. The researchers administered a survey measuring students' patterns and habits of social media use. Based on the survey results, researchers designed six different types of learning materials and uploaded them regularly to Instagram throughout the semester. At the end of the semester, a survey was conducted to find out students' satisfactory level. From the 44 students' responses, the study found out that using Instagram 1) is more accessible to students than any other learning management system, 2) is fun and students are willing to participate, 3) increased the target language exposure and authentic language use, 4) increased interaction between teachers, students and even other native speakers, and 5) is helpful to improve listening and other language skills. The study closes with the suggestion for further experimental studies.

딥러닝 기반 드론 검출 및 분류 (Deep Learning Based Drone Detection and Classification)

  • As commercial drones have been widely used, concerns for collision accidents with people and invading secured properties are emerging. The detection of drone is a challenging problem. The deep learning based object detection techniques for detecting drones have been applied, but limited to the specific cases such as detection of drones from bird and/or background. We have tried not only detection of drones, but classification of different drones with an end-to-end model. YOLOv2 is used as an object detection model. In order to supplement insufficient data by shooting drones, data augmentation from collected images is executed. Also transfer learning from ImageNet for YOLOv2 darknet framework is performed. The experimental results for drone detection with average IoU and recall are compared and analysed.

공학교육에서의 Active Learning 교수-학습 모형 개발 연구 (A Study on the Development of a Teaching-learning Model for Active Learning in Engineering Education)

  • The purpose of this study is to development of a teaching-learning model for active learning in engineering education. For this, the adequacy between educational objectives and active learning activities is verified and furthermore an "active learning teaching-learning model" is suggested. This suggested teaching-learning model is expected to supplement weakness of traditional lecture-type teaching-learning activity. Based on the literature review, first, the representative activities of active learning were derived. there are twenty active learning activities, which compose of five of individual learning activity, five of pair-learning activity and five of group-learning activity, and five of alternative- learning activity. In addition, a survey on adequacy between designed active learning activities and learning outcomes were conducted to ten educational experts. Lawshe's content validity calculation method was applied to analyze the validity of this study. Second, five teaching-learning principles, such as thinking, interaction, expression, reflection, and evaluation were derived to develop an "active learning teaching-learning model" which supplements lecture-type classes and then the "TIERA teaching-learning model" which consists of five stages was designed. Finally, based on the survey on educational experts, adequate active learning activities were proposed to apply in each stage of the "TIERA teaching-learning model" and as a result the TIERA model's active learning activities were developed. The result of this study shows that some activities of active learning are appropriate to induce high cognitive learning skills from the learners even in traditional lecture-type classrooms and therefore this study suggests meaningful direction to new paradigm of teaching-learning for engineering education. This study also suggests that instructors of engineering education can turn their traditional teaching-learning activities into dynamic learning activities by utilizing "active learning teaching-learning model".

Contingency Model to Increase the Uptake of Higher Education Graduates in the Job Market

  • This study investigates graduate competencies that can improve the uptake of higher education graduate outcomes in the working environment in Indonesia. This research was conducted by collecting data through sending questionnaires directly by the research team, via courier, or via postal service to respondents. A survey with questionnaire is carried out on April 2019, and the data from 117 respondents was analyzed. The sample population was all private higher education in the area of the I-XIV Higher Education Service Institution in Indonesia. This study employs factor analysis and structural equation modelling. The results show that the Graduates' competencies had a significant direct effect on the uptake of higher education graduates in the job market. The indirect effect of a Diploma Supplement and networking as mediation has a level of influence that is higher than the direct effect of graduate competence on the uptake of higher education graduate outcomes in the job market. The findings suggest that the Diploma Supplement and networking can increase the uptake of higher education graduates in Indonesia as expected by stakeholders and be able to compete in the global or international scale of environmental working. The professionalism of lecturers has a significant influence on the quality of learning.
