Most deep learning (DL) approaches for bridge damage localization based on a structural health monitoring system commonly use supervised learning-based DL models. The supervised learning-based DL model requires the response data obtained from sensors on the bridge and also the label which indicates the damaged state of the bridge. However, it is impractical to accurately obtain the label data in fields, thus, the supervised learning-based DL model has a limitation in that it is not easily applicable in practice. On the other hand, an unsupervised learning-based DL model has the merit of being able to train without label data. Considering this advantage, this study aims to propose and theoretically validate a damage localization approach for bridges using a variational autoencoder, a representative unsupervised learning-based DL network: as a result, this study indicated the feasibility of VAE for damage localization.

Action recognition is an essential task in computer vision due to the variety of prospective applications, such as security surveillance, machine learning, and human-computer interaction. The availability of more video data than ever before and the lofty performance of deep convolutional neural networks also make it essential for action recognition in video. Unfortunately, limited crafted video features and the scarcity of benchmark datasets make it challenging to address the multi-person action recognition task in video data. In this work, we propose a deep convolutional neural network-based Effective Hybrid Learning (EHL) framework for two-person interaction classification in video data. Our approach exploits a pre-trained network model (the VGG16 from the University of Oxford Visual Geometry Group) and extends the Faster R-CNN (region-based convolutional neural network a state-of-the-art detector for image classification). We broaden a semi-supervised learning method combined with an active learning method to improve overall performance. Numerous types of two-person interactions exist in the real world, which makes this a challenging task. In our experiment, we consider a limited number of actions, such as hugging, fighting, linking arms, talking, and kidnapping in two environment such simple and complex. We show that our trained model with an active semi-supervised learning architecture gradually improves the performance. In a simple environment using an Intelligent Technology Laboratory (ITLab) dataset from Inha University, performance increased to 95.6% accuracy, and in a complex environment, performance reached 81% accuracy. Our method reduces data-labeling time, compared to supervised learning methods, for the ITLab dataset. We also conduct extensive experiment on Human Action Recognition benchmarks such as UT-Interaction dataset, HMDB51 dataset and obtain better performance than state-of-the-art approaches.

Many different semi-supervised learning algorithms have been proposed for use wit unlabeled data. However, most of them focus on classification problems. In this paper we propose a semi-supervised regression algorithm called the semi-supervised local constant estimator (SSLCE), based on the local constant estimator (LCE), and reveal the asymptotic properties of SSLCE. We also show that the SSLCE has a faster convergence rate than that of the LCE when a well chosen weighting factor is employed. Our experiment with synthetic data shows that the SSLCE can improve performance with unlabeled data, and we recommend its use with the proper size of unlabeled data.
Low-Rank Representation (LRR) based methods are widely used in many practical applications, such as face clustering and object detection, because they can guarantee high prediction accuracy when used to constructing graphs in graph - based semi-supervised learning. However, in order to solve the LRR problem, it is necessary to perform singular value decomposition on the square matrix of the number of data points for each iteration of the algorithm; hence the calculation is inefficient. To solve this problem, we propose an improved and faster LRR method based on the recently published Fast LRR (FaLRR) and suggests ways to introduce and optimize additional constraints on the underlying optimization goals in order to address the fact that the FaLRR is fast but actually poor in classification problems. Our experiments confirm that the proposed method finds a better solution than LRR does. We also propose Fast MLRR (FaMLRR), which shows better results when the goal of minimizing is added.
GPR data is used for underground exploration. The data gathered are interpreted by experts based on experience as the underground facilities often reflect GPR. In addition, GPR data are different in the noise and characteristics of the data depending on the equipment, environment, etc. This often results in insufficient data with accurate labels. Generally, a large amount of training data have to be obtained to apply CNN models that exhibit high performance in image classification problems. However, due to the characteristics of GPR data, it makes difficult to obtain sufficient data. Finally, this makes neural networks unable to learn based on general supervised learning methods. This paper proposes an image classification method considering data characteristics to ensure that the accuracy of each label is similar. The proposed method is based on semi-supervised learning, and the image is classified using clustering techniques after extracting the feature values of the image from the neural network. This method can be utilized not only when the amount of the labeled data is insufficient, but also when labels that depend on the data are not highly reliable.

3D open-field farm model developed from UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) data could make crop monitoring easier, also could be an important dataset for various fields like remote sensing or precision agriculture. It is essential to separate crops from the non-crop area because labeling in a manual way is extremely laborious and not appropriate for continuous monitoring. We, therefore, made a 3D open-field farm model based on UAV images and developed a crop segmentation model using a supervised machine learning algorithm. We compared performances from various models using different data features like color or geographic coordinates, and two supervised learning algorithms which are SVM (Support Vector Machine) and KNN (K-Nearest Neighbors). The best approach was trained with 2-dimensional data, ExGR (Excess of Green minus Excess of Red) and z coordinate value, using KNN algorithm, whose accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score was 97.85, 96.51, 88.54, 92.35% respectively. Also, we compared our model performance with similar previous work. Our approach showed slightly better accuracy, and it detected the actual crop better than the previous approach, while it also classified actual non-crop points (e.g. weeds) as crops.

In an autonomous driving system equipped with a camera and lidar, depth completion techniques enable dense depth estimation. In particular, using self-supervised learning it is possible to train the depth completion network even without ground truth. In actual autonomous driving, such depth completion should have very short latency as it is the input of other algorithms. So, rather than complicate the network structure to increase the accuracy like previous studies, this paper focuses on network latency. We design a U-Net type network with RegNet encoders optimized for GPU computation. Instead, this paper presents several techniques that can increase accuracy during the process of self-supervised learning. The proposed techniques increase the robustness to unreliable lidar inputs. Also, they improve the depth quality for edge and sky regions based on the semantic information extracted in advance. Our experiments confirm that our model is very lightweight (2.42 ms at 1280x480) but resistant to noise and has qualities close to the latest studies.
This study investigates the effect of the semi-supervised learning(SSL) method on predicting default risk of peer-to-peer(P2P) loans. Despite its proven performance, the supervised learning(SL) method requires labeled data, which may require a lot of effort and resources to collect. With the rapid growth of P2P platforms, the number of loans issued annually that have no clear final resolution is continuously increasing leading to abundance in unlabeled data. The research data of P2P loans used in this study were collected on the LendingClub platform. This is why an SSL model is needed to predict the default risk by using not only information from labeled loans(fully paid or defaulted) but also information from unlabeled loans. The results showed that in terms of default risk prediction and despite the use of a small number of labeled data, the SSL method achieved a much better default risk prediction performance than the SL method trained using a much larger set of labeled data.

The existing self-supervised learning-based CutPaste generated synthetic data by cutting and attaching specific patches from normal images and then performed anomaly detection. However, this method has a problem in that there is a clear difference in the boundary of the patch. NSA for solving these problems have achieved higher anomaly detection performance by generating natural synthetic data through Poisson Blending. However, NSA has the disadvantage of having many hyperparameters that need to be adjusted for each class. In this paper, synthetic data similar to normal were generated by a simple method of making the size of the synthetic patch very small. At this time, since the patches are so locally synthesized, models that learn local features can easily overfit synthetic data. Therefore, we performed anomaly detection using gMLP, which learns global features, and even with simple synthesis methods, we were able to achieve higher performance than conventional self-supervised learning techniques.

With the recent rise of blockchain technology, cryptocurrency platforms using it are increasing, and currency transactions are being actively conducted. However, crimes that abuse the characteristics of cryptocurrency are also increasing, which is a problem. In particular, phishing scams account for more than a majority of Ethereum cybercrime and are considered a major security threat. Therefore, effective phishing scams detection methods are urgently needed. However, it is difficult to provide sufficient data for supervised learning due to the problem of data imbalance caused by the lack of phishing addresses labeled in the Ethereum participating account address. To address this, this paper proposes a phishing scams detection method that uses both Trans2vec, an effective graph embedding techique considering Ethereum transaction networks, and semi-supervised learning model Tri-training to make the most of not only labeled data but also unlabeled data.
