This paper deals with the characteristics of a small scale $high-T_c$ superconducting(HTSC) levitation system. The levitation tester. which models after electrodynamic suspension(EDS) maglev, consists of one HTSC magnet, a reaction plate, and force measuring components. Instead of moving magnet, AC current was applied to the fixed HTSC magnet. The magnet also has persistent current switch(PCS). The inductance of the magnet was 18.5 mH and total joint resistance of the magnet was $5.74{\times}10^{-7}\Omega$. AC current was applied into the HTSC magnet with various frequencies and the levitation force was calculated and measured. According to the increase of the vehicle speed, the levitation force was saturated.
This paper describes a model flux pump experiment recently performed at the MIT Francis Bitter Magnet Laboratory. The results of the model flux pump will be used in the development of a prototype flux pump that will be couple to a high-temperature superconductor (HTS) insert coil of a high-field NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) magnet, Such an HTS insert is unlikely to operate in persistent model because of the conductors low index(n) The flux pump can compensate fro field decay in the HTS insert coil and make the insert operate effectively in persistent mode . The flux pump, comprised essentially of a transformer an two switches. all made of superconductor, transfers into the insert coil a fraction of a magnetic energy that is first introduced in the secondary circuit of the transformer by a current supplied to the primary circuit. A model flux pump has been designed. fabricated, and operated to demonstrate that a flux pump can indeed supply a small metered current into a load superconducting magnet. A current increment in the range of microamperes has been measured in the magnet after each pumping action. The superconducting model flux pump is made of Nb$_3$ Sn tape, The pump is placed in a gaseous environment above the liquid helium level to keep its heat dissipation from directly discharged in the liquid: the effluent helium vapor maintains the thermal stability of the flux pump.
In order to obtain ultra-high resolution MRI images, research and development of 11 T or higher superconducting magnets have been actively conducted in the world, recently. The high-temperature superconductor (HTS), first discovered in 1986, was very limited in industrial application until mid-2010, despite its high critical current characteristics in the high magnetic field compared to the low-temperature superconductor. This is because HTS magnets were unable to operate stably due to the thermal damage when a quench occurred. With the introduction of no-insulation (NI) HTS magnet winding technology that does not burn electrically, it could be expected that the HTS magnets are dramatically reduced in weight, volume, and cost. In this paper, a 6 T-class NI HTS magnet for basic characteristic analysis was designed, and a distributed equivalent circuit model of the NI coils was configured to analyze the charging current characteristics caused by excitation current, and the charge delay phenomenon and loss were predicted through the development of a simulation model. Additionally, the critical current of the NI HTS magnets was estimated, considering the magnetic field, its angle and temperature with a given current. The loss due to charging delay characteristics was analyzed and the result was shown. It is meaningful to obtain detailed operation technology to secure a stable operation protocol for a 6T NI HTS magnet which is actually manufactured.
The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR) device is an advanced superconducting tokamak to establish scientific and technological bases for attractive fusion reactor. This device requires 3.5 Tesla of toroidal field (TF) for plasma confinement, and requires a strong poloidal flux swing to generate an inductive voltage to produce and sustain the tokamak plasma. KSTAR was originally designed to have 16 serially connected TF magnets for which the nominal current rating is 35.2 kA. KSTAR also has 7 pairs of poloidal field (PF) coils that are driven to 1 MA/sec for generation of the tokamak plasma according to the operation scenarios. The KSTAR Magnet Power Supply (MPS) was dedicated to the superconducting (SC) coil commissioning and $2^{nd}$ plasma experiment as a part of the system commissioning. This paper will describe key features of KSTAR MPS for the $2^{nd}$ plasma experiment, and will also report the engineering and commissioning results of the magnet power supplies.
In this paper, we present the main research results on the 2 Tesla class - superconducting MRI magnet which we have developed. Multi section type superconducting MRI main coil and various superconducting shims were designed and fabricated for obtaining the high field homogeneity, which is requested in the MR imaging. After assembling the magnet with room temperature bore cryostat field homogenity has been measured and analyzed by NMR field mapping system. According to this, field homogeneity of 22 ppm / 30 cm dsv was confirmed.

The manufacturing process of antibody drugs comprises two main stages: the upstream process for antibody cultivation and the downstream process for antibody extraction. The domestic bio industry has excellent technology for the upstream process. However, it relies on the technology of foreign countries to execute downstream process such as affinity chromatography. Furthermore, there are no domestic companies capable of producing the equipment for affinity chromatography. High gradient magnetic separation technology using a high temperature superconducting magnet as a novel antibody separation and purification technology is introduced to substitute for the traditional technology of affinity chromatography. A specially designed magnetic filter was equipped in the bore of the superconducting magnet enabling the continuous magnetic separation of nano-sized paramagnetic beads that can be used as affinity magnetic nano beads for antibodies. To optimize the magnetic filter that captures superparamagnetic nanoparticles effectively, various shapes and materials were examined for the magnetic filter. The result of magnetic separation experiments show that the maximum separation and recovery ratio of superparamagnetic nanoparticles are 99.2 %, and 99.07 %, respectively under magnetic field (3 T) and flow rate (600 litter/hr).
The design of superconducting magnets for a 600 kJ SEMS was discussed. The basic constraint conditions in the design of a 600 kJ SMES magnet were V-I loss(<1 W), inductance of magnet(<24 H), the number of Double Pancake Coils(DPC about 10), the number of turns of DPC(<300), outer diameter of DPC(close to 800 mm) and total length of HTS wire in a DPC(<500 m). As a result of optimum design, we obtained design parameters of the 600 kJ SMES magnet with two operating currents, 360 A and 370 A, which are in the limited conditions without V-I loss. V-I loss of each operating current was calculated with design parameters and V-I characteristic of the HTS wire. As a result of calculations, V-I losses with operating currents of 360 A and 370 A were 0.6 W and 1.86 W, respectively. Even though all design parameters of the SMES magnet in case of operating current of 360 A were in the restricted conditions, V-I loss of SMES magnet showed a tendency to generate at local DPCs, which are located on the top and the bottom of the SMES magnet more than that of the other DPCs.
The magnetic suspension of a high T$\sub$c/ BipbSrCaCuO superconductor beneath toroial Permanent magnet was examined by means of an improved magneto-balancing method at 77K. Both the experimental values of the suspending position and the force exerted upon the superconducting specimen were in good agreement with those calculated from the magnetization curve of the specimen and the magnetic field map of the used permanent magnet.

It is important to improve the efficiencies of motors to overcome problems such as decreasing energy reserves and environmental pollution. Superconductors are promising for developing high-efficiency motors. However, superconducting wires must be kept in critical conditions and the AC loss needs to be minimized. In this paper, a design of a superconducting interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) is proposed that reduces the AC loss. The characteristics of superconducting and normal-conducting IPMSMs are compared. The proposed superconducting IPMSM has a low AC loss and a very high efficiency at low speeds.
