  • The reliability on high cycle fatigue damage mechanism for new blades manufactured by reverse-engineering is demonstrated by success-run test. Turbine blades always experience various dynamic loads in turbine operation, as well as being in resonance condition and forced by fluid-induced vibrations mostly during run-up/down, which may accumulate high cycle damage to the blades. The accidents caused by blade failure especially incur not only a lot of troubles to the machinery but also huge financial losses. Therefore it is necessary to verify the reliability of blades in advance for the safe use. The success run test for the reliability demonstration is designed and performed for the new blades using the technique known as resonant high cycle fatigue testing.

  • This study explores ways in which Korean companies manage a brand to become a long-run success. In particular, this study focuses on Chamisul, analyzing its marketing strategy, examining its brand life-cycle in terms of introduction, growth, and renewal. Chamisul, first introduced in 1998, has occupied the Korean liquor market as a leading brand for almost a decade. Chamisul's long-run success, in fact, depends upon a number of reasons; first, it has consistently and continuously keeps its own core brand concept and identity. Second, it has built its brand asset by strengthening its emotional ties with customers. The emotional connection that Chamisul has built is based upon the trust between the company who produces the product and the customers who recognize the benefit of drinking Chamisul. Third, the company creates various brand differentiation programs, thereby allowing its customer to get familier with the brand. Finally, the company sets up a clear management standard in Korean liquar market in order to maintain the vitality of the brand, managing Chamisul in accordance with the standard. Seen in this light, Chamisul's success reflects the marketing activities and strategies that play a fundamental role in creating and maintaining a long-run brand. Similarly, its success can be seen to be a model for brand management, telling us how to become a market leader through an effective brand management.

  • In this paper, we use a structural equation model to diagnose success factors on commercialization of information and communication technology considering the characteristics of commercialization process in terms of the type of technology, technology provider and technology receiver. The results of our study indicated the following. The transferor's research ability has significant effects on the commercialization by small businesses with low R&D expenditure to sales ratio, and the business management ability plays an important role in the commercialization by the relatively large (over 100 employees) companies with low R&D expenditure ratio. During the commercialization of the technology independently researched by government run institute or university, the transferee's business management ability is crucial to success. To those companies which run the existing business with high R&D expenditure ratio, their ability to utilize technology is essential. When the independently researched technology is used in the new business, the companies' business management ability and the role of technology transfer center are the important factors on the commercialization. Based on these findings, we suggest some strategies to effectively promote R&D efforts for successful commercialization.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to suggest a risk factor that significantly explains foreign currency risk premia. In recent years, some studies have found that the performance of the simultaneous consumption risk model improves considerably when tested on foreign currency portfolios, which are constructed based on the international interest rates differentials. However, this paper focuses on the long-run consumption risk factor. In our empirical research, we found that the real excess returns of high interest rate currency portfolios depreciate on average, when the future American long-run consumption growth rate appears low. This makes the high interest rate currency portfolios have relatively high risk premia. Meanwhile, the real excess returns of low interest rate currency portfolios appreciate on average, under the same conditions, which results in relatively low risk premia for these portfolios. Therefore, this long-run consumption risk factor might explain why low interest rate currencies do not appreciate as much as the interest rate differential, and why high interest rate currencies do not depreciate as much as the interest rate differential. Research design, data, methodology - In our explanation, we provide new evidence on the success of long-run consumption risks in currency risk premia by focusing on the long-run consumption risks borne by American representative investors. To uncover the hidden link between exchange rates and long-run consumption growth, we set the eight currency portfolios as our basic assets, which have been built based on the foreign interest rates of eighty countries. As these eight currency portfolios are rebalanced every year, the first group always contains the lowest interest rate currencies, and the last group contains the highest interest rate currencies. Against these basic eight currency portfolios, we estimate the long-run consumption risk model. We use recursive utility framework and the stochastic discount factor that depends on the present value of expected future consumption growth rates. We find that our model is optimized in the two-year period of constructing the durable consumption expectation factor. Our main results surprisingly surpass the performance of the existing benchmark simultaneous consumption model in terms of R2, relatively risk aversion coefficient γ, and p-value of J-test. Results - The performance of our model is superior. R2, relatively risk aversion coefficient γ, and p-value of J-test of our long-run durable consumption model are 90%, 93%, and 65.5%, respectively, while those of EZ-DCAPM are 87%, 113%, and 62.8%, respectively. Thus, we can speculate that the risk premia in foreign currency markets have been determined by the long-run consumption risk. Conclusions - The aggregate long-run consumption growth risk explains a large part of the average change in the real excess returns of foreign currency portfolios. The real excess returns of high interest rate currency portfolios depreciate on average when American long-run consumption growth rate is low, and the real excess returns of low interest rate currency portfolios appreciate under the same conditions. Thus, the low interest rate currency portfolios allow investors to hedge against aggregate long-run consumption growth risk.

  • This study has purpose to make a report on the newly established rural villages in this country, and to find out the success factors of the rural village project focusing the developers who succeeded in the sales of rural village with emphasized community function. For this study, 123 projects informed from the website(www.welchon.com) were analyzed on the frequency and the officials in charge were interviewed by telephone on the step of projects. In addition, 4 personnel of development companies answered the semi-structured questionnaire on the location, development theme, preparative resident meeting, and success factors of 7 projects which was dealt with content analysis. The result was as follows. 1) Among the projects, more than 50% were the detached housing type with less than 50 units, and also were the resident-driven development projects. Only 5 projects were completed. 2) The personnel of development companies pointed at the location, environment for the economic activity, project theme and continuous resident meeting, as success factors of project. The barriers for rural village development policy are inadequate regulation and long administrative procedure. The preparative resident meeting is an important success factor, so that the system and the cost to run a professional program have to be guaranteed.

  • A commercial nuclear power station contains at least two emergency diesel generates(EDG) to control the risk of severe core demage during the station blackout accidents. Therefore the reliability of the EDG's to start and load-run on demend must be maintained at a sufficiently high level. Until now, a simple assessment of start and load-run success rates was used to calculate the EDG's reliability. However, this method has been found to contain many defects. Recently, the work of Martz et al.(1996) proposed the use of the Bayes estimator to find the EDG's reliability. In this paper, we will propose confidence interval for the Bayes estimator, compare the above two methods and, using practical examples, illustrate why the Bayes estimator method is more reasonable in our situation.

  • Recent observation of the neutron star merger event, GW170817, through both gravitational wave (GW) and electromagnetic wave (EM) observations opened a new way of exploring the universe, namely, multi-messenger astronomy (MMA). One of the keys to the success of MMA is a rapid identification of EM counterpart. We will introduce the strategy for prioritization of GW source host galaxy candidates. Our method relies on recent simulation results regarding plausible properties of GW source host galaxies and the low latency localization map from LIGO/Virgo. We will show the test results for both NS merger and BH merger events using previous events and describe observing strategy with our facilities for GW events during the ongoing LIGO/Virgo O3 run. Finally, we report the result of follow-up observation on, the first neutron star merger event, S190425z, during LIGO/VIrgo O3 run.

  • We have recently witnessed many of global companies did not successfully adapt themselves to local markets, and finally exited the markets experiencing failures. The purpose of this study is to suggest practical glocalization strategies for global e-service companies to run their respective businesses in local markets with success. Glocalization is a terminology blending globalization and localization, meaning that global companies adapt themselves to local cultures, environment, languages, laws and regulations so as to survive and prosper in those markets while maintaining high quality of standards and processes they originally have for global competitive edge. Examining success stories as well as failure ones of global e-service companies having entered Asian markets, we provide marketing mix strategy for successful glocalization, and suggest some guidelines for prospective e-service companies wishing to enter local markets with different cultures and languages to fit themselves to new environments.

  • The information service management models developed thus far have put their focuses mostly on technical dimensions of information systems (IS), finding their rationale from the goods-dominant logic (GDL) that IS as goods has value in itself. Information systems, however, is nothing more than a mechanism by which value is delivered to the users. According to the service-dominant logic (SDL), value is created and determined not at the time serve is made by the providers but at the time it is consumed by the users. The users therefore should be regarded as active value creators not as passive consumers of the value delivered by the providers. Based on the service-dominant logic, DISQM (Dynamic Information Service Quality Model) is developed. DISQM's backbone is designed in causal loop diagrams referring to and reinterpreting in systems thinking the 'Parasuraman, Zeithaml & Berry's GAP Model' and 'SERVQUAL' as an operational tool for the GAP Model, and the main IS success constructs are mapped onto the model exploiting the 'DeLone & MacLean's IS Success Model'. With VENSIM simulation software, this paper also shows how DISQM works in computer-simulation settings. After confirming DISQM's validity with the base simulation run, two scenarios are developed for the exemplary purpose and tested in terms of IS quality, service quality, and net benefits from the service for the public information service. Implications from the simulation runs are also discussed.
