Subway platform is divided into Side-platform type and Center-platform type. In this study does quantitative fire risk assesment of subway platform types in numerical analysis by using CFD model. From the result of this study, 1) All exhaust mode was low-end result it seems most fire risk at Side-platform station. 2) All exhaust mode was low-end result it seems most fire risk at Center-Platform station. 3) When comparing same type exhaust mode of Side-platform and Center-platform that last thing was visible $9.1{\sim}72.34%$ low-end fire risk. Center-platform is more opera-tive than Side-platform that reduce fire risk when that was same dimension and external environment. Designer look upon a fire characteristic of subway platform types when he make smoke control air volume and platform area design.
The subway station platform is designed in high platform for quick getting in/out which is against ordinary train platform. Out of 370 Metropolitan subway station platforms, subway stations which have cured platform are about 38%. In these cases, as the distance between subway and platform would become longer, handicapped people's wheelchairs, baby carriers and old and feeble people can feel uncomfortable when they are getting in and out Also, passengers often fall into track because of the height difference between high platform and track. And if passengers go down on track to pick up something fallen, they sometime fail to climb up and happen to hit against subway. To solve out these kind of inconveniences and prevent accidents, we have developed subway station high platform safety system and finished tests. This safety system is consisted of safety block, screened door and safety wall. This study explained the composition and function of this system and presented the test result to identify its performance.
Experiments were carried out to investigate smoke movement in platform of a subway station which currently is in service in Pusan, the second largest city in Korea. The recently constructed underground station of the "bank type" (two platforms on both sides of track) which is the popular layout of platforms in Korea, is chosen in Pusan. The smoke generator and heater are used for simulating the smoke movement at the fire break in the platform located in the 2nd basement of the station. Video recordings were used to monitor smoke lowering. In this study, the movements of smoke in the underground station are investigated under various smoke-control operating modes. Three tests wire conducted according to its operating mode of the ventilation systems in the platform: no operation of any ventilation systems, smoke extraction mode in occurrence of fire (presently running mode) and full capacity of smoke extraction where all vents are activated in the platform. The results can be used for comparing with the numerical prediction results of fire subway stations.
The purpose of this study is to reveal the quantitative dose-response relationship between the noise emitted in the platform of subway station and the public response. The noise measured in the platform of subway station was used for a jury test. In order to find the factors which influence annoyance response due to the platform noise, jurors were examined for the difference of the annoying response, interrelation of sound quality parameter and annoyance response. The platform noise level was 77.2$\sim$83.9 dBA and the most of passengers at the platform were highly annoyed. And screen door contributes to annoyance reduction of platform noise. The results from analyzing sound quality parameters shows that loudness and annoyance response have a high correlation coefficient.
The environmental considerations should be taken into full consideration in order to make the use of ground space as comfort and efficient as that of ground space. The visual environmental factors which provide visual informations in underground spaces where the environmental information can be acquired only by the surroundings expand their role as affordance for wayfinding. This study focuses on the visual performance evaluation of wayfinding factors on the subway transfer station platform and aisle as major space for movement in four subway transfe stations and analyzes the material, pattern, color, and lighting provided by the visual environment in underground space as directional marked label, regional differentiation and sign system. The results of this study comes are as follows. First, As to the directional marked label at the subway platform and transfer aisle, following patterns are colors, finishing materials and lighting for the sake of safety and convenience, And regional differentiation, following colors are patterns for the space division. Finally sign system which practically provides the most information, however, it is most insufficient to be a space-preception element. Second, According to the type of platform structures, such as an island platform and a separate platform, the main areas of and necessity for the space-perception elements may bring about changes. Third, these four stations that has been analyzed for this study, lighting, compared with color, finishing material and pattern, has been highly insufficient to be a perception element.
In this study, numerical simulations were carried out to analyze the effect of the smoke extraction system and fire shutters in subway station fires using FDS 4.0. Subway station used in the experiment was 145 m long. Simulation results are validated by comparing with experimental results. Simulation results showed good agreement with experimental results within $10^{\circ}C$. 10 MW polystyrene was used as a fuel in the numerical prediction. Numerical predictions were performed in the center-platform type subway station in case of a kiosk fire. Temperature and CO concentration were lowered by the operation of smoke extraction system. But, the operation of fire shutters had little effect on temperature and CO concentration in the platform level.
Heat/smoke detectors are installed in most subway platforms in Korea to detect fire. Subway platform is divided by smoke-control zones for efficient smoke-control. Once the detectors detect heat or smoke, the smoke-control ventilation system in the platform and concourse is activated according to the smoke-control ventilation mode. Smoke-control mode during fires in Korean subway platforms is that the smoke zones operate by exhausting smoke while other zones in the platform and in the concourse which is the upper floor of the platform operate by supplying air or stopping any ventilation. This study is conducted to evaluate performance of passengers' evacuation for various smoke control modes in the subway station. Distribution of smoke and heat due to fire on the platform is analyzed by using Fire Dynamics Simulator(FDS V 4.06) of NIST. Various smoke-control ventilation modes and locations of fire are considered. Evacuation and movement of passengers within the platform is simulated by building EXODUS V.4.0.

Ventilation equipment performs a central role to maintain comfort subway environment. So ventilation equipment of Busan subway line No.1 is required to improve thermal environment. In this study, conditions of thermal environment are presented to improve ventilation equipment at existing subway station platforms by measuring thermal environment of platforms operated ventilation equipment at 14 stations of Busan subway line No.1. AWS of data in comparison with the neighbouring platforms and thermal environment analysis. Thermal environment status of subway platform analysis results are as follows. 1)Daytime platform temperature was higher than outdoor temperature, but night time platform temperature was lower than outdoor temperature. 2)Train wind had effect on improving thermal comfort in platform. 3)When outdoor temperature is below $24^{\circ}C$, inlet air is able to lower than platform temperature. 4)Considering existing ventilation system, night purge systems is useful to improving platform thermal environment.
