Submerged and semi-submerged vehicles expel cooling water through an outlet. In this process, induced noise and vibration by the flow around the outlet have been reported, and it may cause problems directly related to survivability of the navy vessels. The coolant outlet has a net-type structure and circular columns are mostly used. In this study, flow measurements using PIV and LDV were performed for different type outlets; conventional (flat plate with round bar) and improved (flat and flat plate) configurations. Experiments were conducted at a cavitation tunnel where pressure and steady flow rate conditions are ensured for sufficient time to measure the flow. The average velocity field of the outlets were measured and compared through LDV measurements, and instantaneous vorticities were evaluated through PIV measurements. The results show that the improved type of the outlet is advantageous in terms of flow stability compared to the conventional type of the outlet.
FLDWAV model was modified such that it can adequately simulate the effect of Jamsil and Singok submerged weirs in the main reach of the Han River. The enhanced model combines weir-type discharge equations for overflow at fixed weir and Manning equation for fluvial-type flow at the movable weir. Equations for weir overflow include those for submerged weir flow and free overflow. Gates of the movable weir may be open or closed for the simulation. In order to test the simulation capabilities, the enhanced model was applied for various flow conditions at submerged weirs. Backwater effect due to Jamsil and Singok submerged weirs were well simulated. Simulations were carried out for spring and neap tides extracted from artificial tide generated by combining $M_2\;and\;S_2$ tidal constituents. Simulation results cleared indicated that tidal effect extends further upstream as the flood discharge decreases. Low flow simulation capabilities of the enhanced model was tested. Discontinuities of water surface elevation due to the submerged weirs were successively simulated.
In posterior maxilla, it is difficult to achieve primary stability of implants due to sinus pneumatization, alveolar bone loss, and low bone quality. The accurate and objective primary stability assessment is important for good prognosis of implants. Purpose: The aim of this study was to assess the primary stability of the non-submerged, internal type implants with maxillary sinus augmentation using deproteinized bovine bone mineral by a resonance frequency analyzer, when residual alveolar bone height is under 8mm Materials and methods: A total of 20 implants was placed into 5 grafted maxillary sinuses in 5 patients. Deproteinized bovine bone mineral (Bio-$Oss^{(R)}$) was used as graft material. SS II implants (diameter 4.1mm, and length 11.5mm, SLA suface)) were placed. All of the patients received maxillary sinus graft procedure by 1-step technique. Residual bone height was $1.3{\sim}7.8mm$ (mean 4.4mm) measured by panorama radiography. After implant placement, RFA was measured at 4,8,12,20 weeks. The results were divided into 2 groups; RFA value under 4mm and over 5mm of bone height. It was statistically analyzed. Results: 1. The primary stability of implants was increased with time 2. The RFA value was above 65 ISQ at 12 weeks 3. There was no correlation between RFA and residual alveolar bone height in maxillary sinus augmentation by 1-step technique. Conclusion: 1-step surgical procedure is a feasible option for patients with as little as 4mm residual alveolar bone height, when utilizing non-submerged, internal type implants with xenografts.

In this study, a submerged plate-type breakwater is considered, which is supported by elastic foundation. This breakwater makes use of wave phase interaction among the incident, diffracted and radiated waves. We apply a three-dimensional singularity distribution method within the linear potential theory in order to describe the wave field. The submerged plate is assumed to be rigid and the elastic support be a linear spring with constant stiffness. A typical rectangle plate is exemplified for numerical calculation. The thickness of the plate is carefully selected in order to guarantee the solution to be stable by checking the condition number of the system matrix. A parametric study is carried out for examining the effect of the stiffness of the elastic support on performance of the breakwater. We also examine the effect of the submerged depth.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of the DENTIS submerged-type implant with an internal hex connection and to build corresponding abutment-selection criteria. MATERIAL AND METHODS. A total of 204 patients received submerged implant fixtures with an internal hex connection at the Dong-A University Hospital Dental clinic in Busan from January 2013 and May 2016. Three specific abutments, UCLA abutments, customized abutments, ready-made abutments, were randomly selected. Implant success was defined as the basis of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists(ICOI, 2007) criteria. The relationship between the implant success rate and the abutment factor was analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test(P<.05). RESULTS. A total of 508 implants were placed in 204 patients. After a mean observation period of 38.6 months, 493 out of 508 implants were in normal function, yielding an overall success rate of 97.05%. A total of 15 implants failed: 10 in the maxillary molar area, 4 in the mandibular molar area, and 1 in the mandibular incisal area. All of the implant failures occurred in a single-implant prosthesis, especially high in the maxillary molar area. The Kruskal-Wallis analysis showed that abutment selection has no significant correlation with implant failure(P>.05). CONCLUSION. DENTIS submerged implants with an internal hex connection showed predictable results with a success rate of 97.05%. It is no influence on the success rate in the selection of submerged implant abutment with an internal hex connection.
The submerged U-shape breakwater interaction with the solitary wave is simulated by the Boussinesq equations using the finite-difference scheme. The wave reflection, transmission, and dissipation (RTD) coefficients are used to investigate the U-shape breakwater's performance for different crest width, Lc1, and indent breakwater height, du. The results show that the submerged breakwater performance for a set of U-shape breakwater with the same cross-section area is related to the length of submerged breakwater crest, Lc1, and the distance between the crests, Lc2 (or the height of du). The breakwater has the maximum performance when the crest length is larger, and at the same time, the distance between them increases. Changing the Lc1 and du of the U-shape breakwaters result in a significant change in the RTD coefficients. Comparison of the U-shape breakwater, having the best performance, with the averaged RTD values shows that the transmission coefficients, Kt, has a better performance of up to 4% in comparison to other breakwaters. Also, the reflection coefficients KR and the diffusion coefficients, Kd shows a better performance of about 30% and 55% on average, respectively. However, the model governing equations are non-dissipative. The non-energy conserving of the transmission and reflection coefficients due to wave and breakwater interaction results in dissipation type contribution. The U-shape breakwater with the best performance is compared with the rectangular breakwater with the same cross-section area to investigate the economic advantages of the U-shape breakwater. The transmission coefficients, Kt, of the U-shape breakwater shows a better performance of 5% higher than the rectangular one. The reflection coefficient, KR, is 60% lower for U-shape in comparison to rectangular one; however, the diffusion coefficients, Kd, of U-shape breakwater is 35% higher than the rectangular breakwater. Therefore, we could say that the U-shape breakwater has a better performance than the rectangular one.
This study presents numerical simulations of submerged jump and washed-out jump resulted from the flow over the embankment type weir. Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) equations are solved with the k-𝜔 SST turbulence model. Validations are carried out using the experimental results in the literature, revealing that computed roller shape, free surface, and mean velocity are in good agreement with measured data. The volume fractions of water of the submerged jump and washed-out jump are compared, and the characteristics of the two flows from the double-averaged volume fractions of water are presented. The condition under which the transition occurs from the submerged jump to washed-out jump is presented by the relation between the relative embankment length and submergence factor via numerical simulations by changing the weir length, discharge, and tailwater depth.

Marine waste is classified according to its location into coastal waste, floating waste, and submerged waste. As awareness of environmental issues increases, research on marine submerged waste in addition to visible trash is needed. In Korea, which is surrounded by the sea on three sides, this is a study on the distribution of marine sedimentary waste by type in the West Sea of Korea. Through the study, waste synthetic resin, scrap metal, waste tires, and others appeared in the order of large amounts. As a result showing the seriousness of waste synthetic resin among sediments deposited in the West Sea, it is expected to have a huge impact not only on the marine ecosystem but also on our lives in the near future. Through this study, it is judged that it will be helpful for future collection activities by recognizing marine submerged waste that was not known because it was invisible.
Effect of a flux composition on weld metal toughness in submerged arc welding with 60kgf/$\textrm{mm}^2$ grade C-Mo type wires was investigated and interpreted in terms of weld metal microstructure and hardenability. Flux workability was also studied by characterizing a weld bead profile. Compared to other weld metals, .weld metal used alumina basic flux with nickel showed lowest oxygen content, highest hardenability and the most acicular ferrite. The highest impact toughness of that weld metal, however, was attributed to the tough matrix due to the nickel rather than to the larger amount of acicular ferrite. Manganese silicate flux had better workability than alumina basic flux, showing broader welding conditions resulting in a depth-to-width ratio of 0.5. The composition of oxides in the weld metal was dependent on the flux composition, showing MnO-SiO$_2$-TiO in manganese silicate flux and MnO-SiO$_2$-Al$_2$O$_3$-TiO in alumina basic flux. MnO-SiO$_2$composition in both oxides was similar to a tephroite.

In this study, the nonlinear interaction of irregular waves with wave breaking and currents around permeable submerged breakwater was investigated with the aid of olaFlow model which is open source CFD software published under the GPL license. The irregular wave performance of olaFlow applied in this study was verified by comparing and evaluating the target frequency spectrum and the generated frequency spectrum for applicability to irregular waves. Based on the applicability of this numerical model to irregular wave fields, in the coexistence fields of irregular waves and currents, the characteristics of wave height, frequency spectrum, breaking waves, averaged velocity and turbulent kinetic energy around porous submerged breakwater with the respect to the beach type and current direction versus wave propagation were carefully investigated. The numerical results revealed that the shape of wave breaking on the crown of the submerged breakwater and the formation of the mean flow velocity around the structure depend greatly on the current directions and the type of the beach. In addition, it was found that the wave height fluctuation due to the current direction with respect to the wave propagation is closely related to the turbulent kinetic energy.
