Purpose: Purpose: This study was to study the effect of foot bathing on menopausal symptoms and sleep disorders in female subjects in their 50s with menopausal symptoms. Methods: After 12 weeks of foot bath therapy three times a week, pre- and post-menopausal signs were measured. Results: Subjects with hot flashes, heart discomfort, sleep problems, depression, irritability, anxiety, physical and mental fatigue, sexual problems, urination problems, vaginal dryness, and joint and muscle discomfort significantly improved after than before(p < .001). Subjective sleep quality, sleep incubation period, sleep duration, sleep disturbance score, sleep drug use, and sleep dysfunction significantly decreased after foot bath than before(p < .001). Habitual sleep efficiency increased considerably. Conclusions: The subjects showed overall improvement in menopausal symptoms and sleeping quality after a foot-bath. Therefore, foot bath therapy is evaluated as a natural healing therapy suitable for improving menopausal symptoms and sleep.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the relationships between the characteristics of nurses' work schedules, health outcomes, and work-life balance. Methods: This was a secondary data analysis that included 422 nurses in Korean hospitals. Descriptive analysis, independent sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression analysis were used to identify the associated factors. Results: Multiple linear regression analysis showed that work-life balance was lower when atypical work was performed (β=-.14, p=.010). Nurses who did not work overtime showed a higher level of work-life balance than those who worked overtime infrequently (β=-.11, p=.002) or frequently (β=-.28, p<.001). The work-life balance level increased when nurses had better subjective health status (β=.16, p<.001) or higher sleep quality (β=.29, p<.001). It was verified that the work-life balance level was higher for single-person households than for households with two (β=-.18, p=.003), three to four (β=-.16, p=.022), or five or more (β=-.21, p<.001) persons. Conclusion: This study suggests that government and hospital organizations should provide high-quality care and consideration to nurses who do atypical or overtime work as well as their subjective health status and sleep quality. Further research should focus on the development of a policy that improves the work-life balance of nurses, especially for those who work during atypical hours.
Objectives : Zizyphus seed has long been used in hypnotics and sedatives in oriental medicine, and it is reported that the Zizyphus seed elicited a variety of pharmacological actions besides CNS depression. We did a clinical study on the effectiveness of Zizyphus seed (Ansim-san) for insomnia in stroke patients. Methods : To 41 stroke patients suffering from insomnia, we administered the extract of Zizyphus seed (Ansim-san). Outcome measures were subjective in nature and included a morning questionnaire, visual analog scales, and observation forms by study personnel. We also, to find the applicable symptom-complex of Zizyphus seed (Ansim-san), examined accompanying symptoms. Results : 1. Zizyphus seed extract use meant that sleep latency was shorter, total sleep time was longer, number of wakenings was lower, wake time during sleep was shorter, sleep quality was improved, condition upon awakening was improved, ability to concentrate was improved, and the patients fell asleep more easily (P<0.001). There were no differences in morning sleepiness. 2. Among accompanying symptoms, an oppressed feeling in the chest was significant (P=0.035) in the patients who improved sleep quality. Conclusions : The results of this clinical study suggest that in stroke patients, Zizyphus seed (Ansim-san) can be effective for insomnia, and significantly effective in patients who have an oppressed feeling in the chest.

Background: Sleep quality, quantity, and efficiency have all been demonstrated to be adversely affected by rotator cuff pathology. Previous measures of assessing the impact of rotator cuff pathology on sleep have been largely subjective in nature. This study was undertaken to objectively analyze this relationship through the use of activity monitors. Methods: Patients with full-thickness rotator cuff tears at a single institution were prospectively enrolled between 2018 and 2020. Waist-worn accelerometers were provided for the patients to use each night for 14 days. Sleep efficiency was calculated using the ratio of the time spent sleeping to the total amount of time that was spent in bed. Retraction of the rotator cuff tear was classified using the Patte staging system. Results: This study included 36 patients: 18 with Patte stage 1 disease, 14 with Patte stage 2 disease, and 4 patients with Patte stage 3 disease. During the study, 25 participants wore the monitor on multiple nights, and ultimately their data was used for the analysis. No difference in the median sleep efficiency was appreciated amongst these groups (P>0.1), with each cohort of patients demonstrating a generally high sleep efficiency. Conclusions: The severity of retraction of the rotator cuff tear did not appear to correlate with changes in sleep efficiency for patients (P>0.1). These findings can better inform providers on how to counsel their patients who present with complaints of poor sleep in the setting of full-thickness rotator cuff tears.

Objectives: The main purpose of the present study was to investigate the associations between the risk of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and chronic orofacial pain in a nationally representative sample of the Korean population. Materials and Methods: Data from the 8th wave Korean national health and nutrition examination survey, which was conducted from 2019 to 2020 were analyzed. This study included 5,780 Koreans (2,503 males, 3,277 females) over 40 years of age. The presence of subjective chronic facial pain lasting more than 3 months was evaluated based on a self-reported questionnaire. The risk of OSA was determined using the STOP-BANG questionnaire. Data related to anthropometric and sociodemographic factors; diagnostic history of hypertension, depression, and OSA; level of health-related quality of life and stress awareness; health-related behaviors, including smoking and alcohol drinking; and sleep duration were collected. The participants were classified into two groups according to the presence of chronic facial pain. Results: The level of health-related quality of life and stress awareness showed significant differences between the two groups. The sleep duration on weekends also presented significant differences. No significant differences were observed in the presence of snoring and observed apnea, while participants with chronic facial pain showed significantly higher levels of tiredness between the groups. The risk of OSA evaluated by STOP-BANG questionnaire showed significant differences between groups; however, the risk of OSA seemed to be higher in participants without chronic facial pain. Conclusion: The participants with chronic facial pain demonstrated decreased sleep duration, lower health-related quality of life, and increased stress and tiredness. Even though, the role of OSA in the development of chronic facial pain was inconclusive from the study, it is possible that ethnicity play a role in relationship between OSA and chronic facial pain.

This study is a descriptive research study to identify the relationship between cancer fatigue, quality of sleep, environmental sleep disturbance, and comfort perceived by hospitalized cancer patients. Data were collected with structured questionnaires from 113 cancer patients from a university hospital in J city, Gyengnam, from September 17 to November 5, 2019, and analyzed using SPSS 21.0, using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. The subjects' Comfort is significantly different depending on education level, Cancerous type, Radiation treatment status, Usual exercise status. The result showed that comfort was negatively correlated with cancer fatigue(r=-.609, p<.001), quality of sleep(r=-.478, p<.001), and environmental sleep disturbance(r=-.297, p=.001). The variables that had a significant effect on comfort were cancer fatigue(β=-.42, p<.001), subjective quality of sleep(β=-.30, p=.001), and cancer type(β=-.18, p<.015), and the explanatory power was 46.1%(F=27.24, p<.001). Based on these results, it is necessary to develop a program to improve the quality of sleep and to reduce the cancer fatigue by cooperating with medical and nursing staff in multidisciplinary ways to enhance the comfort of hospitalized cancer patients.

This study utilized data from 1,068 women aged 40-59, drawn from the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES) conducted in 2020, to investigate factors impacting subjective health perception and health-related quality of life. Methodologically, STATA 15.0 was employed for complex sample mean and standard deviation calculations, complex sample weighted percentages, complex sample t-tests, and multiple regression analyses. Common factors influencing both subjective health and health-related quality of life included education level, household size, depression, and stress. Age, binge drinking, and physical activity were identified as factors influencing subjective health perception. Insurance type, employment status, and sleep disorders emerged as factors impacting health-related quality of life. Recognizing middle age as a crucial transitional phase into old age, the development of health policy programs aimed at enhancing subjective health and health-related quality of life during this period is deemed essential.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether and how the biopsychosocial features of myofascial pain (MFP) differ from those of local myalgia (LM) in temporomandibular disorder (TMD). Methods: Patients with TMD were retrospectively evaluated using the Diagnostic Criteria for TMD. All patients completed a series of self-administered questionnaires on pain severity and pain interference (Brief Pain Inventory, BPI), pain disability (Graded Chronic Pain Scale, GCPS), psychological distress (Symptom Check List-90-Revised, SCL-90R), pain cognition (Pain Catastrophizing Scale, PCS), and subjective sleep quality (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, PSQI). Among all the TMD diagnoses, muscle pain was classified into the MFP group and LM group. Results: This study included 917 patients with myalgia (MFP: 266, LM: 651). Significant differences were observed in the female ratio (78.9% for MFP, 60.9% for LM, p<0.001) and the mean pain duration (MFP: 25.3 months, LM: 15.8 months, p=0.001) between the two groups. Patients with MFP exhibited higher pain severity (p=0.003) and pain interference (p<0.001) of BPI than those with LM. Furthermore, the global scores of the PCS (p<0.001) and PSQI (p<0.001) were higher in the MFP group than in the LM group. The MFP group had higher global symptom index (p=0.017) and five subscales of the SCL-90R than the LM group. Compared with the LM group (33.4%), the greater proportion of high disability of GCPS was observed in the MFP group (44.9%) (p<0.001). Multiple regression analysis revealed that sex (p=0.002), pain duration (p=0.019), pain disability (p=0.010), and subjective sleep quality (p=0.008) significantly differed between the two groups. Conclusions: The findings of this study indicated that MFP presents a higher biopsychosocial burden than LM in TMD.

This study identified the differences and relationships between clinical practice stress, sleep quality, and daytime sleep disorder before and after clinical practice of college nursing students. The subjects were 130 students in the third year of nursing science. The results showed that the average clinical stress of the study subjects was 3.15 out of 5 points. Out of the external factors for clinical practice stress, the score for the task was 3.64. There was a significant difference in gender (t=-3.88, p<).001), subjective health status (F=5.78, p=.004), residence (F=3.20, p=.026). Nursing students showed lower sleep quality (80.0% before practice, 70.0% after practice), and those with daytime sleepiness (26.9% before practice, 42.3% after practice) were more than those of general college students. There was a difference between sleep quality (χ2=4.06, p=.004) and daytime sleepiness (χ2=6.08, p=.009) before and after clinical practice. There was also a negative correlation between daytime sleepiness and sleep quality (r=-.259, p<0.01). Therefore, strategies to reduce clinical practice stress and improve the quality of sleep are needed for the physical and mental health of nursing college students. The quality of nursing can be improved in the future by helping nursing students adapt to the clinical practice of changing nursing education field.
This study used a convenience sampling method to find out the effect of healthy lifestyle habits of college students participating in leisure activities on sleep quality. The results are as follows. First, in majors according to the personal characteristics of college students, the arts and sports field showed higher exercise lifestyle habits than the natural field, and in leisure participation, college students participating in the sports field showed an effect on exercise lifestyle, health perception habits, eating habits, and subjective sleep. In the leisure activity period, it was found that students who participated in leisure activities for more than 3 years had an effect on exercise lifestyle, health perception habits, and daytime sleep. In leisure activity time, it was found that students who participated for 1-2 hours had an effect on exercise lifestyle, health perception habits, and eating habits. Second, it was found that bad lifestyle habits had an effect on sleep difficulties, and in daytime sleep, exercise lifestyle habits, bad lifestyle habits, and eating habits were found to have an effect.
