Correlation between Real-Time and Off-Time Subjective Assessments and Physiological Responses for Visual Picture Stimulus (시각자극에 대한 실시간 및 비 실시간 주관적 평가와 생리반응과의 상관관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to approve the capability of human sensibility evaluation based on physiological responses and real-time subjective assessments. Three well-trained healthy human subjects were participated in the experiments. We measured physiological responses such as Heart Rate Variability(HRV), Galvanic Skin Response(GSR) and skin temperature under rest and visual stimulation conditions, respectively. Off-time subjective assessments were recorded before and after visual stimulations. Real-time subjective assessments were recorded during visual stimulations. The results of physiological responses and off-time and real-time subjective assessments were quantified and compared. The results showed that the correlation between physiological responses and real-time subjective assessments was high (83%) for both the positive and negative visual stimulation. The correlation between the physiological responses and off-time subjective assessments was high (83%) for the negative visual stimulation but was low (15%) for the positive visual stimulation. Although the current observation is preliminary and requires more careful experimental study, it appears that the correlation between real-time subjective assessment and physiological responses is higher than that of the off-time subjective assessment and physiological responses.

  • In order to improve the sound quality and reduce the noise of engines and vehicles efficiently, it is important to quantify the subjective noise characteristics objectively. The exhaust noises of the passenger vehicles have been measured for the subjective assessments. This paper outlines the objective data by which engine noise can be assessed and the salient features of subjective assessments before proposing an approach by which targets for internal vehicle noise may be set. The method to objectify the subjective assessments has been proposed considering three components - Loudness, Harmonic content, Impulsiveness - which have influence on the subjective assessments.

  • In order to compare subjective and objective assessments, a passenger car was driven at several speeds over several road profiles. To measure the acceleration signals experienced by the seated subject who provided an subjective assessment, four triaxial translational accelerometers and one triaxial gyro sensor were mounted on the steering wheel and on the passenger seat and floor, respectively. Correlations were determined between the measured accelerations and the subjective assessments of 3 expert subjects and 9 general subjects using psychophysical power law.

  • In oder to generate various shock signals in a field study, a passenger car was driven at several speeds over road profiles that included a number of half sine shaped bumps of various heights. A triaxial SAE pad sensor was mounted on the front passenger seat to measure the acceleration signals which might produce subjective discomfort. The measured accelerations were correlated with the subjective assessments of 14 subjects. The magnitude of subjective discomfort was found to be proportional to the VDV and also the peak to peak of the frequency weighted acceleration signal.

  • Sound quality engineering in automobile noise applications has become more and more important under the current quiet driving condition that the interior noise level is below 65 dBA, because various noise components masked under high noise level can be audible in quieter driving situation. Many researches have been carried out for subjective and objective assessments on automobile sounds and noises. In particular, the interior sound quality has been one of research fields that can give high-quality feature to automobile products. Although many works related to the interior sound quality have been progressed or completed in foreign countries, limited research results are presented in the country. In the study, as a base step necessary to objective assessments on car interior noises, subjective assessments are performed with 20 subjects. For this purpose, perceptual adjectives suitable to the assessment of acceleration noises are selected as assessment scales through questionnaire procedures using 35 subjects. Mean values and standard deviations are calculated for noises created through digital filtering of acceleration noises measured. In addition, the correlation analysis and the factor analysis are carried out to investigate the dependence of the assessment scales selected.

  • According to information communication business faces with competitions in a various spheres with the development of multimedia and information communication, the time when we have to make an effort to improve a qualify comes from an era when we devote ourselves to quantitative expansion. we will try to perform quality assessments of real-time interactive multimedia service, and so on - in this research and present criteria of new subjective quality assessments which is fit on Korea by analyzing examples of ITU-T and foreign countries and Korea.

  • Among various physical or subjective assessments of the quality of X-ray images, physical assessments can be quantitative but they are eventually judged by the view of observers thus subjective assessments including the aspect of observers are required. The changes in the ability to detect lesions caused by changes in the thickness of acrylic plates were tested with the ROC interpretation method that has taken into consideration, all the features of physical assessments as well as observers' ability to observe and mental stages and even surrounding environments using an Alvim phantom and the result indicated that as the thickness of acrylic plates increased, the amount of noises occurred increased compared to signals and thus the ability to detect signals as well as the sensitivity that is an ability to signals accurately and the ability to distinguish noises from signals thus it is considered that more efforts of radiologic technologists will be required to detect small lesions of fat patients with diagnostic X-ray generating apparatus.

Many researches have been carried out for subjective and objective assessments on automobile sounds and noises. In particular, the interior sound quality has been one of research fields that can give high-quality feature to automobile products. Although many works related to the interior sound quality have been progressed or completed in foreign countries, limited research results are presented in the country. In the study, subjective assessments are first performed with 20 subjects to select perceptual adjectives suitable to the assessment of car interior noises during acceleration. The selected perceptual adjectives are employed as the assessment scales to evaluate the acceleration noises in questionnaire procedures using 35 subjects, for which several noises are created through digital filtering of the acceleration noises measured. Mean values and standard deviations for subjective assessment scores obtained by the questionnaire procedures are calculated and their reliability are also verified. Finally, various statistical analyses such as the correlation analysis and the factor analysis are carried out to reveal the interrelationship between the assessment scales and the spectrum components of the acceleration noises.

Study to the Effect of Involutional Blepharoptosis Surgery Using Objective and Subjective Parameters

  • Background We investigate the effect of involutional blepharoptosis (IB) surgery based on dry eye symptoms by analysis using objective and subjective measures. Methods We recorded various parameters from patients that underwent levator advancement surgery for IB, totaling 125 eyes (total 65 patients, 5 unilateral, 60 bilateral). Subjective assessment comprised a questionnaire on dry eye-related quality of life score (DEQS), a summary score calculated from DEQS, and six-grade evaluation, the patient's own measure of eye comfort. Objective assessment comprised marginal-reflex distance-1 (MRD-1), measurement of tear film breakup time, and superficial keratopathy (SPK) existence by slit lamp microscope. Results Subjective assessments showed that IB patients had improvement of dry eye symptoms and eye comfort when surgery increased MRD-1. On the other hand, objective assessments showed that the presence of SPK is suspected when the postoperative MRD-1 level is 3 mm or higher. Conclusion IB surgery must not only increase MRD-1 value, but also to perform maintenance of the appropriate ocular surface condition. From our parameters, we suggest postoperative MRD-1 value should be maintained at < 3 mm to safe and effective of IB surgery.

Effects of Visiting Cognitive Activities Using Brain Training on Cognition, Subjective Memory Complaints, and Depression in Community-Dwelling Elderly People - Focusing on Gwangmyeong City (브레인 트레이닝을 활용한 방문형 인지활동이 지역사회 노인의 인지, 주관적 기억감퇴, 우울감에 미치는 효과 - 광명시를 중심으로)

  • Purpose : This study aimed to demonstrate the effects of visiting cognitive activities using brain training on cognition, subjective memory complaints and depression among elderly participants residing in community living in Gwangmyeong city. Methods : Over a 14-month period (October 2022 to December 2023), four brain training instructors visited the homes of older adults and conducted the intervention using a brain training kit. The participants included 32 elderly individuals aged 65 years and older, who were living in Gwangmyeong city. The assessments were conducted by an occupational therapist, a nurse and a social worker at the Gwangmyeong dementia relief center. These assessments included the following the subjective memory complaints questionnaire (SMCQ), short geriatric depression scale-Korean (SGDS-K), a cognitive impairment screening test (CIST), the consortium to establish a registry for Alzheimer's disease-Korean (CERAD-K). The participants were divided into three groups (A: 20-30 points, B: 10-19 points, C: 1-9 points) based on the CIST score. For data analysis, descriptive statistics and wilcoxon signed-rank test were performed using SPSS 24.0, and the statistical level was at a=.05. Results : The results of the intervention showed that the SMCQ score of group A improved significantly (p<.05), the CIST score of group B also improved significantly (p<.05). However, the SGDS-K score of group C improved, but did not demonstrate statistical significance (p=.080). Conclusion : The visiting cognitive activities using brain training produced significant effects on cognition, depression, and subjective memory disorders, depending on the cognitive level of the elderly participants. In the future, it will be necessary to demonstrate the effects according to cognitive level in various aspects with more elderly people.
