  • Home Economics has been confronted with many disciplinary challenges in and/or out of it. We, as the home-economists, have to find out ourselves and re-identify Home Economics. This study aims to analyze the treatises reported on KHERJ through the contents classification for the purpose of establishing the academic identification of Home Economics. Korean Home economics Research Journal made its first appearance in 1959 and has been published serial number 100 at the end of 1994. At this moment, it seems to be valuable to identify the state(tendency) of researches during that time, So this study analyzed the contents of all articles91165) printed in the Journal of Korean Home Economics Association from 1959 to 1994. In this study, articles were classified by subject matter(theme categories), relevant facts of researcher, research method, etc. The results of the study were indicated by the publication state(situation) of Journal, status and place of colleges and universities of head researcher, number of articles according to college and universities, distribution of subject matter, number of researcher, research fund, transition of subject matter, research method according to subject matter, and transition of statistic technique applied and research objects.

  • This study investigated the food and dietary educational content in primary, middle and high school textbooks in order to provide fundamental data for the development of educational programs on Korean traditional food culture. The research objects consisted of 51 kinds of textbooks (15 kinds of primary school textbooks, 29 kinds of middle school home economics textbooks and 7 kinds of high school home economics textbooks), and the contents related to food and dietary education were counted and analyzed. The content analysis was performed using two categories: application method and subject matter. Application method included texts, cases, visual aids (pictures, photos, illustrations, chart, etc.) and activities, whereas subject matter consisted of seven types (well balanced nutrition and health, understanding of food and nutrition, cooking principles, cooking lessons, traditional foods and culture, others). The results of the application method in primary school textbooks show that visual aids were the most common in all six grades. For the subject matter, 'understanding of food and nutrition' was most abundant in primary school textbooks while 'well balanced nutrition and health' accounted for a large part of the contents in middle school textbooks. However, the contents regarding traditional foods and culture were insufficient in primary and middle school textbooks. These results suggest that educational contents on traditional foods and culture should be added to primary and middle school textbooks and covered in various subjects. Furthermore, high school 'home economics' contents need to emphasize comprehensive food and dietary education and adjust to 'science & technology for life'.

  • In this study, new self-initiated peer tutoring is suggested to computer graphic's subject. Subject of computer graphics is practice based subject, therefore learning efficiency and learning level of students is different from each other. To improve the learning efficiency and enhance the interest of related subject, new peer tutoring activities was performed with main class in 6 months (including vacation). We analyzed the results of tutoring activities and conducted survey tutees. Results of the analysis and the survey were shown that students (tutees) are satisfied with and interested in the class of computer graphics.

  • Currently, textbooks of practical arts in the elementary school are being revised for the sixth time. All the students in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade of elementary school will learn these new textbooks beginning in March, 1995. The purpose of this study is to develop teaching models suitable for the new textbooks of practical arts under the sixth curriculum in the elementary school. The results of this study are summarized as follow: 1. Teaching guidances with subject matters in new textbooks are presented in Table 2, 3, 4, 5. The subject matters for each grade are divided into four main areas under the sixth curriculum. 2. The subject matters under the sixth curriculum are clothing, food, houseing, gradening, computer, industry and commerce. These are included in the four main areas of handling, making, cultivating or breeding and keeping. Activities or contents in these main areas are not necessarily related to each other in sequence. 3. The subject matters in the main areas are not perfectly constructed in accordance with the level of child development. 4. Teaching models and their example for each teaching unit are presented in Table 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.

  • Environment education, which is a principal solution to environmental problems in the world, is being practiced in Korea through the national curricula for primary and secondary schools. However, it hasn't been effective so far to practice environment education within those schools where a variety of subjects are taught. The purpose of this study is to look for the possibility of practicing environment education and thereby to make some suggestions for effective environment education in the field of English education, which doesn't seem to have a close relationship with environment education. This study first specified prospective contents of environment education by analyzing the Seventh National English Curriculum. Then, on the basis of them, the study explored how to practice environment education in the field of English education. Finally, for effective environment education, it made some suggestions and emphasized the importance of consistent efforts.

  • On the basis of total page, the coverage rate of education of safety and health in textbooks of elementary school was approximately 10%. In middle school, the contents of safety education were addressed mainly in subject of chemistry below about 5% of coverage rate whereas the contents of health education appeared mainly in subject of athletics below about 15% of coverage rate. Similarly, the contents of safety education and health education in textbooks of high school were indicated mainly in the subjects of chemistry and athletics, showing below about 5% and 30% of coverage rate, respectively. In conclusion, the education level of safety and health in textbooks was generally lower compared to other contents. The coverage rate of safety education was relatively lower than health education, which implicates that extensive contents related to safety education are needed to be added to textbooks in order to establish preliminary attitude for preventing workplace accident.

  • In this research, a subject substitute STEAM program was developed in context of a trend of STEAM education and a new science contents in a 2009 revised curriculum, which can replace the 2009 revised curriculum contents of 'Sound' unit in the third and the fourth grade. The developed program was taught to the 4th graders in a field. After applying the program, how students acknowledge the subject substitute STEAM program was analyzed through questionnaire. The research results were as follows. First, the subject substitute STEAM program of 3 sub programs was developed with centered around 'sound' unit for 4th graders. Second, students made a positive estimation of the STEAM program because of various activities and learning subject related to daily life. Third, they considered difficult term, necessary craft skills in creative design, understanding scientific principle and a lot of necessary time as difficulties of the STEAM program. And they also recognized that making stuff activity and learning aid material like activity sheet, picture and video helped to understand a lesson. Lastly, students had a positive thinking or negative thinking about STEAM program before they learn. But after learning the STEAM program, all of them showed their positive attitude to the STEAM program.

  • Subject classification of thesis units is essential to serve scholarly information deliverables. However, to date, there is a journal-based topic classification, and there are not many article-level subject classification services. In the case of academic papers among domestic works, subject classification can be a more important information because it can cover a larger area of service and can provide service by setting a range. However, the problem of classifying themes by field requires the hands of experts in various fields, and various methods of verification are needed to increase accuracy. In this paper, we try to classify topics using the unsupervised learning algorithm to find the correct answer in the unknown state and compare the results of the subject classification algorithms using the coherence and perplexity. The unsupervised learning algorithms are a well-known Hierarchical Dirichlet Process (HDP), Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) and Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) algorithm.

  • Recent development in virtual and augmented reality increases the demand for content in many different fields. One of the fast ways to create content for VR is 3D modeling of real objects. In this paper we propose a system to reconstruct three-dimensional models of real objects from the set of two-dimensional images under the assumption that the subject does not has distinct features. We explicitly consider an object that is made of one or more surfaces and radiant constant energy isotropically. We design a low cost portable multi camera rig system that is capable of capturing images simultaneously from all cameras. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed system, comparison is made between 3D model and a CAD model. A simple algorithm is also proposed to acquire original texture or color of the subject. Using best pattern found after the experiments, 3D model of the Pyeongchang Olympic Mascot "Soohorang" is created to use as VR content.
