  • In this paper, hierarchical retrieval system based on efficient feature extraction is proposed. In order to retrieval the image with robustness for geometrical transformation such as translation, scaling, and rotation. After performing the 2-level wavelet transform on image, We extract moment in low-level subband which was subdivided into subimages and texture feature, contrast of GLCM(Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix). At first we retrieve the candidate images in database by the ones of image. To perform a more accurate image retrieval, the edge information on the high-level subband was subdivided horizontally, vertically and diagonally. And then, the energy rate of edge per direction was determined and used to compare the energy rate of edge between images for higher accuracy.

  • In this paper, we propose the fast image retrieval method based on object regions using bidirectional round filter in the wavelet transform region. A conventional method that extracts feature vectors on the whole of subband is reduced retrieval efficiency, because of unnecessary background information. The proposed method that extracts feature vectors on the only object region of subband by using bidirectional round filter improve retrieval efficiency, because of removing of background information. And it certainly maintains retrieval efficiency in case of reduction of feature vectors according to color information. Consequently, the retrieval efficiency is improved with 2.5%∼5.3% values, which have a little changes according to characteristics of image.

  • A novel multifocus image fusion algorithm based on NSCT is proposed in this paper. In order to not only attain the image focusing properties and more visual information in the fused image, but also sensitive to the human visual perception, a local multidirection variance (LEOV) fusion rule is proposed for lowpass subband coefficient. In order to introduce more visual saliency, a modified local contrast is defined. In addition, according to the feature of distribution of highpass subband coefficients, a direction vector is proposed to constrain the modified local contrast and construct the new fusion rule for highpass subband coefficients selection The NSCT is a flexible multiscale, multidirection, and shift-invariant tool for image decomposition, which can be implemented via the atrous algorithm. The proposed fusion algorithm based on NSCT not only can prevent artifacts and erroneous from introducing into the fused image, but also can eliminate 'block effect' and 'frequency aliasing' phenomenon. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieved better fusion results than wavelet-based and CT-based fusion method in contrast and clarity.

Mounted PCB Classification System Using Wavelet and ART2 Neural Network (웨이브렛과 ART2 신경망을 이용한 실장 PCB 분류 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithms for the mounted PCB classification system using wavelet transform and ART2 neural network. The feature informations of a mounted PCB can be extracted from the coefficient matrix of wavelet transform adapted subband concept. As the preprocessing process, only the PCB area in the input image is extracted by histogram method and the feature vectors are composed of using wavelet transform method. These feature vectors are used as the input vector of ART2 neural network. In the experiment using 55 mounted PCB images, the proposed algorithm shows 100% classification rate at the vigilance parameter $\rho$=0.99. The proposed algorithm has some advantages of the feature extraction in the compressed domain and the simplification of processing steps.

Iris recognition robust to noises

  • This paper describes a new iris recognition method using shift-invariant subbands. First an iris image is preprocessed to compensate the variation of the iris image. Then, the preprocessed iris image is decomposed into multiple subbands using a shift invariant wavelet transform. The best subband among them, which have rich information for various iris pattern and robust to noises, is selected for iris recognition. The quantized pixels of the best subband yield the feature representation. Experimentally, we show that the proposed method produced superb performance in iris recognition.

  • This paper deals with the detection, feature extraction and classification of surface defects in cold rolled strips. Inspection systems are one of the most important fields in factory automation. Defects such as slipmark and dullmark can be effectively detected with a Gaussian matched filter because their shapes are similar to Gaussian. It is justified that the proposed WF(Wavelet Frame) method could be regarded as multiscale Gaussian matched filter which can be applied to the inspection of cold rolled strip. After a wavelet frame transform, the entropies and moments are computed for each subband which pass through both local low pass filter and nonlinear operator. With these features as input, a MLP(Multi Layer Perceptron) is used as a classifier. The proposed inspection method was applied to the real images with defects, and hence showed good performance. The role of each extracted feature is analyzed by KLT(Karhunen-Loeve Transform).

  • In recent years, the development of drone technologies has promoted the widespread commercial application of drones. However, the ability of drone to carry explosives and other destructive materials may bring serious threats to public safety. In order to reduce these threats from illegal drones, acoustic feature extraction and classification technologies are introduced for drone sound identification. In this paper, we introduce the acoustic feature vector extraction method of harmonic line association (HLA), and subband power feature extraction based on wavelet packet transform (WPT). We propose a feature vector extraction method based on combined HLA and WPT to extract more sophisticated characteristics of sound. Moreover, to identify drone sounds, support vector machine (SVM) classification with the optimized parameter by genetic algorithm (GA) is employed based on the extracted feature vector. Four drones' sounds and other kinds of sounds existing in outdoor environment are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The experimental results show that with the proposed method, identification probability can achieve up to 100 % in trials, and robustness against noise is also significantly improved.

  • In this paper, we propose the image retrieval method based on object regions using bidirectional round filter in the wavelet transform domain. A conventional method that includes unnecessary background information reduce retrieval efficiency, because of the extraction of feature vectors from the whole region of subband. On proposed method, it extracts accurate feature vectors and keep certainly retrieval efficiency in case of reduced feature vectors, because of the extraction of feature vectors from the only extracted object region. Furthermore, it improve retrieval efficiency by removing unnecessary background information. Consequently, the retrieval efficiency is improved with 2.5%∼5.5% values, which have a little chances to vary according to characteristics of image.

  • This paper propose image steganalysis scheme based on independence between parent and child subband on the multi-layer wavelet domain. The proposed method decompose cover and stego images into 12 subbands by applying 3-level Haar UWT(Undecimated Wavelet Transform), analyze statistical independency between parent and child subband. Because this independency is appeared more difference in stego image than in cover image, we can use it as feature to differenciate between cover and stego image. Therefore we extract 72D features by calculation first 3 order statistical moments from joint characteristic function between parent and child subband. Multi-layer perceptron(MLP) is applied as classifier to discriminate between cover and stego image. We test the performance of proposed scheme over various embedding rates by the LSB, SS, BSS embedding method. The proposed scheme outperforms the previous schemes in detection rate to existence of hidden message as well as exactness of discrimination.

Texture Feature-Based Language Identification Using Gabor Feature and Wavelet-Domain BDIP and BVLC Features (Gabor 특징과 웨이브렛 영역의 BDIP와 BVLC 특징을 이용한 질감 특징 기반 언어 인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a texture feature-based language identification using Gabor feature and wavelet-domain BDIP (block difference of inverse probabilities) and BVLC (block variance of local correlation coefficients) features. In the proposed method, Gabor and wavelet transforms are first applied to a test image. The wavelet subbands are next denoised by Donoho's soft-thresholding. The magnitude operator is then applied to the Gabor image and the BDIP and BVLC operators to the wavelet subbands. Moments for Gabor magnitude image and each subband of BDIP and BVLC are computed and fused into a feature vector. In classification, the WPCA (whitened principal component analysis) classifier, which is usually adopted in the face identification, searches the training feature vector most similar to the test feature vector. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields excellent language identification with rather low feature dimension for a document image DB.
