One field identified by an inverse method is one of multiple candidate solutions those are independently obtained through a specific estimation technique. While averaging of optimized fields can provide a better description of the spatial feature of an unknown field, it deteriorates the flow and transport characteristics of the optimized fields. As a result, the averaged field is not suited for modeling aquifer performances. Based on genetic algorithm, an optimal field synthesis technique is developed, which combines diversely optimized fields into a refined group of fields. Each field in the population is paired, and a sub-region of each field is exchanged by crossover operation to create a group of synthesized fields of enhanced modeling capability. The population of the fields is evolved till the synthesized fields become sufficiently similar. Applications of the optimal field synthesis to synthetic cases indicate that the objective functions of the fields assessing the modeling capabilities are further reduced after the optimal field synthesis. The identified fields from various inverse techniques may yield a range of modeling results under varied flow situations. The uncertainty is narrowed down through the optimal field synthesis and the associated modeling results converge on that of the reference field. The developed inverse modeling facilitates the construction of a reliable simulation model and hence trustworthy predictions of the future performances.
We study the focusing properties of a two-dimensional square-lattice photonic crystal (PC) comprising silica and germanium partitioned cylinders in air background. The finite difference time domain (FDTD) method with periodic boundary condition is utilized to calculate the dispersion band diagram and the FDTD method incorporating the perfectly matched layer boundary condition is employed to simulate the image formation. In contrast to the common square PCs in which the negative refraction effect occurs in the first photonic band without negative phase propagation, in our suggested model system, the frequency with negative refraction exists in the second band and in near-infrared region. In this case, the wave propagates with a negative phase velocity and the evanescent waves can be supported. We also discuss the dependency of the image resolution and its location on surface termination, source location, and slab thickness. According to the simulation results, spatial resolution of the proposed PC lens is below the radiation wavelength.

This paper introduces the double-density discrete wavelet transform(DWT) using quincunx sampling, which is a DWT that combines the double-density DWT and quincunx sampling method, each of which has its own characteristics and advantages. The double-density DWT is an improvement upon the critically sampled DWT with important additional properties: Firstly, It employs one scaling function and two distinct wavelets, which are designed to be offset from one another by one half. Secondly, the double-density DWT is overcomplete by a factor of two, and Finally, it is nearly shift-invariant. In two dimensions, this transform outperforms the standard DWT in terms of denoising; however, there is room for improvement because not all of the wavelets are directional. That is, although the double-density DWT utilizes more wavelets, some lack a dominant spatial orientation, which prevents them from being able to isolate those directions. A solution to this problem is a quincunx sampling method. The quincunx lattice is a sampling method in image processing. It treats the different directions more homogeneously than the separable two dimensional schemes. Proposed wavelet transformation can generate sub-images of multiple degrees rotated versions. Therefore, This method services good performance in image processing fields.
Information on the area and spatial distribution of crop fields is needed for biomass production, arrangement of water resources, trace gas emission estimates, and food security. The present study aims to monitor crops status during the growing season by estimating its aboveground biomass and leaf area index (LAI) from field reflectance taken with a hand-held radiometer. Field reflectance values were collected over specific spectral bandwidths using a handheld radiometer(LI-1800). A methodology is described to use spectral reflectance as indicators of the vegetative status in crop cultures. Two vegetation indices were derived from these spectral measurements. In this paper, first we analyze each spectral reflectance characteristics of vegetation in the order of growth stage. Vegetation indices (NDVI, GNDVI) were calculated from crop reflectance. And assess the nature of relationships between LAI and VI, as measured by the in situ NDVI and GNDVI. Among the two VI, NDVI showed predictive ability across a wider range of LAI than did GNDVI. Specific objectives were to determine the relative accuracy of these two vegetation indices for predicting LAI. The results of this study indicated that the NDVI and GNDVI could potentially be applied to monitor crop agriculture on a timely and frequent basis.

The present study investigates numerically nonequilibrium energy transfer between electrons and phonons in metal thin films irradiated by ultrashort pulse lasers and it also provides the temporal and spatial variations of electron and phonon temperatures using the well-established two-temperature model(TTM) on the basis of the Boltzmann transport equation(BTE). This article predicts the crater shapes in gold film structures, and compares the results by using two-dimensional energy transport equation. From the results, it is found that nonequilibrium energy transfer between electrons and phonons takes place, and the equilibrium time increases with the increase of laser fluence. On the other hand, above threshold fluence the ablation time doesn't change nearly with increasing fluences. Compared with one-dimensional TTM, it also reveals that the temporal distributions of electron and phonon temperatures at the top surface estimated by using two-dimensional TTM have a similar tendency. The results show that two-dimensional TTM can simulate the crater shape of metals during the irradiation of femtosecond pulse lasers and the absorbed energy is propagated to z-direction faster than to r-direction.

This study examined the present condition and characteristics, spatial composition of the Atarasimura through field studies about the Atarasimura of Miyashiro, Saitama pref. in Japan. The results of this study are as follows. First, Atarasimura is the citizen farm of Miyashiro which promotes regional activation, community consciousness and the interchange of residents. Second, cultivation area and the miscellaneous scrub transforms the area into a park-like one, protecting a natural environment and making a beautiful landscape. Atarasimura is expected to enhance the studying effect of the children and young people. Third, the direct sale of agricultural products leads to the increase of income and resident employment opportunities. Fourth, the plan of future regional facilities must be made within a legal system and a systematic program for region making. In addition, the system of rational participation and cooperation between administration and local residents is important.

Confocal scanning microscopy is a measurement technique used to observe micrometer and sub-micrometer features due to its high resolution, nondestructive properties, and 3D surface profiling capabilities. The design, implementation, and performance test of a confocal scanning microscopy system are presented in this paper. A short-wavelength laser (405 nm) and an objective lens with a high numerical aperture (0.95) were used to achieve the desired high resolution, while the x- and y-axis scans were implemented using an acousto-optic deflector and galvanomirror, respectively. An objective lens with a piezo-actuator was used to scan the z-axis. A spatial resolution of less than 138 nm was achieved, along with successful 3D surface reconstructions.
Accurate mapping of satellite images is one of the most important Parts in many remote sensing applications. Since the position and the attitude of a satellite during image acquisition cannot be determined accurately enough, it is normal to have several hundred meters' ground-mapping errors in the systematically corrected images. The users which require a pixel-level or a sub-pixel level mapping accuracy for high-resolution satellite images must use a number of Ground Control Points (GCPs). In this paper, the performance of two geometric correction algorithms is tested and compared. One is the polynomial warping algorithm which is simple and popular enough to be implemented in most of the commercial satellite image processing software. The other is full camera modelling algorithm using Physical orbit-sensor-Earth geometry which is used in satellite image data receiving, pre-processing and distribution stations. Several criteria were considered for the performance analysis : ultimate correction accuracy, GCP representatibility, number of GCPs required, convergence speed, sensitiveness to inaccurate GCPs, usefulness of the correction results. This paper focuses on the usefulness of the precision correction algorithm for regular image pre-processing operations. This means that not only final correction accuracy but also the number of GCPs and their spatial distribution required for an image correction are important factors. Both correction algorithms were implemented and will be used for the precision correction of KITSAT-3 images.
This paper is primarily intended to present quantitative evidences for land surface albedo difference among seven metropolitan cites in South Korea. An empirical study for experimental sites was conducted to confirm how a standard MODerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument offers the viable method of measuring and comparing the regional heterogeneity of albedo among administrative districts. The metropolitan cities like Seoul located in dense building environment do result in much lower albedo than those exposed in much more sub-urban surface (e.g KwangJoo). These experimental results indicate that an urban surface such as building and road is a crucial explanatory variable for lower albedo. It is confirmed that the urban surface such as building and road could be employed as a proxy of the lower albedo burden in the metropolitan area. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference to confirm the potential of introducing the new concept of "administrative districts specific albedo management" to support more scientific and objective decision-making in the process of GHG (Greenhouse Gas) reduction project.

This study describes the development of a web-based system that collects all data generated in the research conducted to set pre-harvest residue limits (PHRLs) for agricultural product safety control. These data, including concentrations of pesticide residues, limit of detection, limit of quantitation, recoveries, weather charts, and growth rates, are incorporated into a database, a regression analysis of the data is performed using statistical techniques, and the PHRL for an agricultural product is automatically computed. The development and establishment of this system increased the efficiency and improved the reliability of the research in this area by standardizing the data and maintaining its accuracy without temporal or spatial limitations. The system permits automatic computation of the PHRL and a quick review of the goodness of fit of the regression model. By building and analyzing a database, it also allows data accumulated over the last 10 years to be utilized.
