This study is to examine the types of expression and aesthetic characteristics of on-line game characters by analyzing those game characters' body and their costume that appear in various domestic on-line game sites. It is shown in this study that types of the human bodies and costume expressed through the game characters are grouped into five categories such as exposure and tightness, enlargement and exaggeration, curtailment and simplification, gender stereotype and unification. Furthermore, there are four typical aesthetic characteristics resulting from those types of expressions; First, 'grotesque' is expressed in the form of extreme enlargement and exaggeration, extreme exposure and concealment, combined images among human, animal or machine, or monstrous devilish images. Second, in an effort to express 'eroticism', bodies are directly exposed, see-through costumes are used in order to emphasize the body lines or very tight designs are used. Third, 'futuristic' characteristics are shown through geometrical shape and silhouette, machine-like details, strong artificial colors or glossy hi-tech material. Lastly, 'pastiche' is expressed with reconciliation of variety of costumes of game characters. Various opposite or heterogeneous styles are combined or harmonized each other to show pastiche, of which examples are male and female, superior culture and inferior one, rich and poor, oriental and western, human and machine, human and nature or past and future, etc.

This study investigates and analyzes Catholic cultural traits in Gaudi's architectural designs on the assumption that the cultural identity of Spain has been built heavily on Catholic cultural tradition. Through examining thoroughly six residential buildings Gaudi designed, Catholic cultural traits were found in their interior ornaments, space formation, and expression of form. This study shows, first, that by making good use of interior ornaments, Gaudi sought to Catholic cultural uniformity among buildings that have different cultural characteristics. Second, with regard to space formation, he tended to build a chapel or an oratory inside structures which encouraged residents to worship in their home. Also, as for expression of form, his designs, expressing Catholic cultural features in various ways, succeeded to form visual uniformity among buildings and structures with a variety of styles. Lastly, by using properly Catholic cultural elements explained above and making those traits easily recognized even from a long distance, his architectural works represent very well the importance of Catholic culture as a foundation of Spain culture.

Digital textbook project is one of government-driven project to improve education due to integrating technology. Digital textbook need to be universally designed to fit for each student. Recently, universal design for learning( UDL) gains great attention as one of promising approaches for the development of the digital textbook through giving various options and flexibility to all students. UDL has three main principles, first provide multiple means of representation, second provide multiple means of action and expression, third provide multiple means of engagement. The purpose of the study is to analyze fourth grade science textbook according to three UDL guidelines and suggest implications to improve an existing science textbook. The results indicated that fourth grade science digital textbook has been partly applied UDL guidelines like implementing multimedia and multi- mode contents, learning and communication tools, and motivation strategies. But options which students can choose according to their needs and styles are insufficient and tools for expression and communication need to enhance for helping each student to overcome his/her obstacles for learning and need to be more and elaborate to support learner-centered science digital textbook.

This study was conducted to evaluate the roles that the exterior features of belts play in modem women's fashion. Providing a new prospective on belt expression could be useful for developing and producing belts with newer and more unique fashion designs. This study included related studies, fashion magazines and collections produced both in Korea and abroad since 2000. The results of the study were as follows: 1. A belt can be used to stress femininity. For example wearing a broad belt rather than a thin belt emphasizes the waist, breasts or hips depending on the position of the belt, whereas simply Wearing a belt loosely on a tight or see-through dress can also emphasize femininity. 2. A belt can be used as a design element of a dress. The basic elements of a belt, such as leather used in combination with various colors, various manufacturing methods, and ornate buckle ornaments can produce elaborate decorative effects. However, when a belt is made from materials other than leather, the belt can have an ornamental quality on an achromatic dress. Finally, designing belts to be worn in non-conventional manners, such as girding or tying them, or wearing several belts on the arms, legs, shoulders and waist can result in new and expressive styles.

The crossover in fashion refers to the coordination of different items, each with a different atmosphere. In a broad sense, it is the mutual exchange across the existing areas, that is, the creation of a new style by disparate and opposite elements coexisting in a look. This paper studies typical features of the crossover shown in modern fashion based on sub-culture by examining the concept and formation factors of the crossover through social aspects rather than particular art modes to predict the current fashion and suggest a new direction. Crossover fashion appeared in social and cultural environments, has four characteristics : the visual discordance of sexes, the appearance of the lingerie look, the mixture of folk style, and the appearance of the reactionary mode. The crossover, appeared in sub-cultures and diffused into the public, may be considered the creation of a new sense of beauty and a possibility for the future. It is expected to keep expanding ifs range in fashion, since it is an expression of human will to restore liberal sensibility not confined to formality.

The surface design in architecture plays a role as an indicator that symbolizes cultures and styles, in accordance with the course of history and the standards of the time. The surface design that determines the facade of an architectural structure allows us to have a more clear understanding about the functions, programs and structures, as well as the periodical concept of the architects than any other components of the architecture. The purpose of this paper was to examine how architectural surface designs were realized, using commonly-used materials. This study provides meaningful implications, in that it suggests common features in terms of design methodologies (between architecture and non-architecture fields), and presented new possibilities for contemporary architectural surface designs through the classification of building system methods depending on fabric properties, and through the case study analysis of architectural surface designs; in addition, the results of this study could be utilized as basic data for future studies on the possibility of the expression of surface designs across a broader domain.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the types of jeans fashion in the basis of designer brand. and to analyze the symbolic characters of jeans fashion. Designer brand re-established jeans fashion by compounding high cultural factors and low cultural factors. broke up the boundary between street fashion and high fashion. and escaped from fixed idea on materials and design. This study divides the types of jeans fashion within the designer brand into classifications of Hippie style, Punk style, American Street style, Neo-classic style, and Grungy style. Today, reinterpreting the resistant image of jeans fashion, designers creates the various styles and also restores the upscale image of it. The symbolic characters of jeans fashion are summerized as sexuality, deconstructiveness, conspicuousness, humour, and multiculturalism. As the results of the symbolic characters of jeans fashion in the new Millennium era will suggest the wide aesthetic expression and continue to influence a more diverse jeans fashion trends.

Minimalism combines the adjective 'minimal' and the suffix 'ism', and was first coined in the 1960s. Minimalism draws on the belief that when the use of artistic skills and adaptation is minimized and only the essentials or core is expressed, the discrepancy or distance between reality and art can be kept to a minimum; and thus, true reality can be achieved. To realize minimalism, artists creating paintings, sculptures and other forms of visual art eliminate unnecessary elements and strip objects to its essentials. And hence, most minimalist artwork used minimum amount of color and focused on expressing the geometric essence of objects. Such simplistic styles of minimalism can be seen today in various designs. Apple's iPod design and other product designs as well as graphic designs are just few of the examples. Drawing on the spirit of minimalism, Icongraphics pursues beauty and pleasure in the minimal use of color and form. And what lies beneath Icongraphics' artistic style is its pursuit of simplistic essentials, sending a strong message to the digitalized and complex lives of modern people.

This study is on the aesthetic characteristics of Balenciaga design succeeded to by Nicolas Ghesquiere, and tried to understand his pursuing brand's new design concept and aesthetics. The three key characteristics of Balenciaga designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere are Retrospecitvness, Eclecticism, Deconstruciton. First, Balenciaga looks retrospective sense through reinterpreting tradition. Nicolas created a new sense of expression by mixing his proper instinct with Balenciaga's original properties, historical components of the past western dress, and various design elements of assistants who used to work in Balenciaga. Second, Balenciaga expresses uncertain meaning by compromising between contrast and synthesis among the past and the future, the males and the females, simple and ornament, or different styles. Third, Nicolas's experimental and outsider-oriented view of Deconstruction through reorienting of thought is considered a try for a new formative concept as a designer who is not limited by general rules.

In this study, it can be identified that drawing style of cartoon and fashion illustration are mutually linked and interchanged. The common background of drawing style between cartoon and fashion illustration, is as follows; 1. A means of image communication through mass communication 2. Similarities as visual signs 3. The borderless of painting, illustration and cartoon. 4. Usage of common drawing expressions such as deformation, distortion, exaggeration, metaphor, metonymy. Drawing style interchanging between cartoon and fashion illustration, is as follows; 1. Similar to figure and face are contemporary style, similar figure, Anime style and humourous style. 2. Similar to the way of express is focusing on the line, simplification, mixed computer graphics with hand drawing, artistic expression, the way of multimedia.
