  • We are able to analyze a social or a natural phenomenon by using the conception. if we understand a concept of an object. However it is not easy to understand a concept of an object. The process of comprehending the concept is a long rigorous mental journey. Hence, understanding concepts has been emphasized in studies in education. Previous studies demonstrate that conception has a dual nature, which has both an operational and a structural nature. We are able to acknowledge that structural conception develops from an operating conception. Nevertheless, discovering a dual nature of conception and knowing whether students acquired the dual nature, especially the structural nature are difficult to achieve. In this research, I examine the operational and the structural nature of a center of mass conception and analyze whether students acquire structural nature of the center of mass conception, and find implications which we would do to build the structural conception on a concept.

  • Furniture design is no exception to human desire for pursuit of the nature. In various design fields, it has turned out nature-decorative method in the past, and also recently it has turned out bio-adaptive method which is more root design process using principal of generation in nature world. The purpose of this study is to analyze application methods and characteristics of fractal geometry and voronoi diagram which are most representative principals of generative design in nature by research on the example of furniture design using these principals. The results of having analyzed fumitures by generative design can be summarized as follows; design principals of fractal; superposition, scaling, repetition & gradation, deformation, distortion and voronoi diagram; individual speciation, variational patten, repetition gradation, ambiguous boundary create new design concept and emergent form in furniture design. Application methods are 'form emergence by algorithm', 'conventional process based on principals of generative design', and 'reproduction of pattern from generative design'. Biological reinterpretations and new explorations of principals of nature generation offer unbounded possibilities for furniture design.

  • The purpose of healthcare facility should be user healing and health promotion. However, healthcare facilities have a bigger impact on the natural environment than the general buildings, eventually effecting the health of people globally. 'Environmentally friendliness' is a more important concept in hospitals, not just in technical or mechanical performance but in therapeutic effects on users. Therapeutic environment is closely related to the natural environment. Depending on how the natural environment is drawn into the space, the healing effect of the patients is also increased. Most of the previous studies are statistical and comparative researches that cannot provide theoretical basis of architectural planning. Therefore, architectural research on the composition of architectural space and nature is needed. In this study, we categorize 16 types of relation between architectural space and nature, and based on this, analyze the present situation of 7 regional public hospitals' 33 spaces, and provide theoretical background and guideline for therapeutic space.

  • The Neo-Confucian study of the thee of ministerial fire(相火論) constitute of the rule of iung jung(中正), the principal of form and use(體用) and of real nature and emotion(性情) of human and ethic mind(人心道心). The present study is to evaluate a fundamental concept of the theory of ministerial fire, which is one of traditional medical ideology in China, through the Neo-Confucianism projects to The theory of ministerial fire. The theory of ministerial fire of Judange(朱丹溪) was recognized by ontological principal of Heaven-Human being-Earth, ontological structure of Form-Use and the structure that mind consist of real nature and emotion(심統性惰). The ethic and human mind(道心人心) of Judange and constancy and transition(常變) of seven emotion have relationship in the ontological structure of Form-Use. The real nature of human Doing consisted of apriority of Heaven rule is unitary constructed by Form-Use(체용) of inactivated real nature and activated seven emotion and then activated seven emotion shows dual form of appropriate(中節) and inappropriate(不中節). Emperor's and ministerial fire(君火相火) which has a relationships of Heaven-Human being synchronization represents all kinds of fire and classified to heaven fire(天火) and human fire(人火). The emperor's fire was triggered by inactivated fire and ministerial fire(相火) was triggered by activated fire. Inactivated ministerial fires have dual form of physiological ministerial and pathological ministerial fire. Regarding the forementioned analytic thinking, it was clear that manifest processing of One's real nature and the ministerial fire undergo the same principal and logics. Since maintained One's real nature that is inactivated seven emotion and appropriated activated seven emotion, ministerial fire can be stable and keep one's health and well-being in mind and body.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to use in therapy through considering representative oriental philosophical thought in terms of psychotherapy and Oriental medicine. Methods: This study examines psychotherapy and oriental aspects of "Diagram theory of InShimDoShim" that Yulgok, a Neo-Confucian scholar in the Joseon Dynasty, wrote about action of the mind and suggests ways to use it. Results and Conclusion: Diagram theory of InShimDoShim contains much content that can be applied in psychotherapy. It has a positive perspective of human nature and looked at life as realization of nature and life as subjective self-realization. Positive and negative experiences of life are expressions of positive nature. By reinterpreting these experiences, humans contribute to the goal of life that expresses their nature in a healthy way. Yulgok defines a healthy mind capable of living a good life as "an inshim who listens to doshim's command". Therapists can adopt this mindset as the goal of psychotherapy. Yulgok said that the way of manifesting nature is only possible through energy, and that the clear and tidy of this temperament creates a healthy and unhealthy mind. In this part, it is possible to apply therapeutic intervention of the diagram theory of InShimDoShim and Oriental medicine. Oriental medicine can calm temperament by using a treatment method to regulate energy, and clear energy creates a healthy mind and body. The principle that the mind is composed of nature and energy provides a basis for psychosomatic medicine.

  • The nature is the foundation of human life and arts, and human beings have found order and principle amid ceaseless change and harmonization of the nature and diversified patterns and directly or indirectly applied the nature to interior through discovered principles. Interior space to which the organic factors of the nature is an expression of the vitality of the nature and expresses live forms as seen in change, development and growth of living organisms in addition to human feelings. The study aims to recognize the necessity of studies on interior space to which organic expressive characteristics of the nature are applied in uniformed space, suggest expressive characteristics and propose needed basic data required at a time of designing interior space. In this regard, the study has examined works by five contemporary designers including Zaha Hadid, Karim Rashid, Fabio Novembre and Nox with an aim to analyze expressive characteristics of interior design and figure expressive characteristics of organic design found in interior space. According to analyses on preceding literary studies and case studies (14 places), it has been found that organic expressive characteristics in interior space include vision, tactile sensation and auditory sense in terms of sensitivity, immateriality in terms of a property of matter, metaphor and abstraction in terms of the form of natural objects and non-linear curves and free curves in organic design. Organic spaces were characterized by symbolism, directionality, continuity, pattern and superimposition. This conclusion is expected to be useful in subsequent studies on the application of organic expressive characteristic factors at a time of planning interior space in the future.

  • The main purpose of this study is to examine the effects of explicit instructions on the nature of science (NOS) on the understanding of science-gifted students. Participants were engaged in 8 explicit NOS instructions spanning 6 months. Data were collected before and after the instructions from 20 science-gifted students using student worksheets, open-ended questionnaires (Views of Nature Of Science, VNOS), and in-depth interviews. The results of this study showed that explicit instructions were helpful in improving the understanding of the tentativeness in science and socially and culturally embedded aspects of science. However, participants not only still possess naive views on the nature of science about the distinction of law and theory and the empirical aspects of science, but also had conflicting views and misconceptions in some areas. The study has implication for development of science-gifted program that the explicit instructions on NOS and science inquiry should be provided concurrently, given the complementary relationship of the two activities.

  • This study tried to search for solutions of present problems in architecture through interdisciplinary study which includes biology, literature, aesthetics, and psychology, and set up two models composed of the nature and the human perception which contemporary architecture has problems on. By nature-oriented approach through biology and romanticist literature, the five types of organic principles which could be obtained from structure and order in natural system and by human perception-oriented approach through aesthetic theory of Harold Osborne and perceptual and cognitive psychology the structure and order of perceptual arousal, perceptual balance, and perceptual order in human cognition based on perceptual appropriateness could be found. The unified and organic framework of architectural composition must be considered through a deductive and inductive study as this study was approached. The results of the present study can be applied to construct human-oriented design principles and factors in architectural space and form, and better environmental quality.
