This study examined the instructional influences of MBL programs on elementary school students' science achievement, scientific inquiry skills, and science learning motivation. The perceptions of students and their teacher toward science classes using MBL programs were also examined. The subject of this study was sixty four 4th grade students from two classes. The experimental group engaged in science classes that applied MBL and the control group engaged in traditional science classes based on the textbook and experiment workbook. As results, there was no significant difference in academic achievement, scientific inquiry skills, however, were significantly higher for the experiment group compared to the control group. There was also significant difference in the relevance and confidence, the sub-categories of science learning motivation. In the analyses of students' perceptions toward science classes using MBL, students showed positive perceptions in aspects of interests of science classes, content comprehension, and convenience of experiments. The teacher also showed positive perceptions using MBL in elementary science classes. Educational implications of appling MBL in elementary science classes were discussed.
The purpose of this study was to explore the elementary students' perceptions of Earth systems and environmental issues. A survey was conducted to determine the students' perceptions on the following aveas: (1) the concepts of certainty and tangibility, (2) self-reported knowledge level, (3) perceived danger level of selected eight Earth systems and environmental issues, and (4) their primary information source on these issues. Results indicated that ozone hole, acid rain, El $Ni\widetilde{n}o$, and global warming were identified by the students as uncertain and intangible issues. Perceived certainty and perceived tangibility were highly positively correlated with self-reported knowledge compared to other relationships. The results also showed that learning from school was the most frequent information source for environmental issues. The second most frequently used source of information was television among several mass media sources. It is hoped that this study contributes to understanding the elementary school students' perceptions toward the selected Earth systems and environmental issues.
This study examined (1) whether romantic partners' or close friends' acceptance-rejection perceived by college students is related to their psychological adjustment indicated by hostility/aggression, dependency, negative self-esteem, negative self-competence, emotional unresponsiveness, emotional instability, and negative world view; (2) whether parents' behavioral control in childhood and romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control perceived by college students are related to their psychological adjustment; (3) how parents' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection in childhood perceived by college students are related with each other; and (4) how romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection perceived by college students are related with each other. The subjects were 163 college students enrolled in universities located in Seoul or Kyungki-do in Korea. The results indicated that college students' perceptions of their romantic partners' or close friends' acceptance-rejection are related to their psychological adjustment, that college students' perceptions of their parents' behavioral control and romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control are related to their psychological adjustment, and that college students' perceptions of parents' behavioral control are related to their perceptions of parents' hostility/aggression, indifference, and rejection and the results were the same for the romantic partners' or close friends' behavioral control and acceptance-rejection.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the instructional effects of a problem solving model on students' achievement, science process skills, and perceptions of science activities. The problem solving model was developed on the basis of the SSCS (Search, Solve, Create, Share) problem solving model while considering Korean educational situations under a national curriculum. The model developed is composed of 4 stages; identify, solve, create, and share. In this research, the treatment and control groups (6 classes) were selected from a middle school in Seoul and taught about the separation of mixture for four weeks. Prior to instruction, the Group Assessment of Logical Thinking and the Learning Approach Questionnaire were administered, and their scores were used as covariate and blocking variable, respectively. During instruction, classroom observations for each group were conducted with a researcher-made checklist. Immediately following the instructions, students' achievement, science process skills, and perceptions of science activities were measured by a researcher-made achievement test, the Middle Grades Integrated Science Process Skills Test(MIPT), and the Perceptions of Science Activities Questionnaire, respectively. The results indicated that students in the treatment group achieved significantly better than those in the control group. Although students in the treatment group were found to use more science process skills correctly during their science activities, the MIPT scores of the treatment group were not significantly higher than those of the control group. No interaction with students' learning approach was found for both students' achievement and science process skills. On the questionnaire of students' perceptions of science activities, the treatment group showed more positive perceptions and interest than the control group. Educational implications are discussed.
The number of vegetarian restaurants in Malaysia has been increasing as people are motivated by various reasons to consume vegetarian foods. In addition, university students contribute to the economy, hence it is important for investors or owners of vegetarian restaurants to understand university students' perceptions on vegetarian restaurants based on their own experiences. This research provided an insight of factors influencing university students, such as family members, religion, trend and health. The objective of this research was to identify the perceptions of university students on vegetarian restaurants. This research used a qualitative approach by conducting a focus group interview with university students as a source of data collection. The six respondents were selected based on the criteria of university students in Malaysia who are consuming vegetarian food. Findings enabled investors and owners of vegetarian restaurants to have an in-depth understanding on the factors influencing university students' perceptions on vegetarian restaurants and take necessary action to accommodate them.
The purpose of this study is to analyze KAIST students' perceptions of intellectual property and start-ups and educational needs. In this study, literature research, interviews, and surveys were conducted, and 5 students participated in the interview, and 202 students participated in the survey. Students had similar perceptions of intellectual property and start-up education. KAIST students had very little experience in intellectual property and start-up-related education in middle, high schools and universities. In particular, most students highly recognized the importance of intellectual property and start-up education, but recognized that the importance was low in their career path. Therefore, students were also less willing to participate in intellectual property and start-up-related education in the future. Students demanded the highest education on 'patent management' in intellectual property-related competencies, and the highest demand for 'start-up idea derivation ability' in start-up-related competencies.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of the Portfolio applied science instruction on the students' scientific affective domain and perceptions of portfolio in elementary schools. Portfolio applied science instruction of the 6th grade science unit 'Environment pollution and Nature protection' was developed for this study. Traditional instruction was implemented to the control group and portfolio applied science instruction was implemented to the experimental group. Pretests of the scientific affective domain were administered to both groups. The treatment was given for about seven weeks for both groups. Instruments about scientific affective domain were administered to both groups. A questionnaire on perception of portfolio applied science instruction was given to the experimental group after the treatment. The results were analyzed using t-test on the students' scientific affective domain. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Portfolio applied science instruction program for elementary schools was developed. Students themselves determine the portfolio learning goal in a portfolio applied science instruction. Students construct the portfolio and they evaluate themselves and other colleagues. Also teachers go on portfolio applied science instruction considering portfolio purpose, concepts, evaluation. 2. There was not a statistically meaningful difference between an experimental group and a control group o]1 the students' scientific affective domain. In three sub categories of a scientific affective domain, the science perception, the interest on science and scientific attitude, there were not statistically meaningful difference among them. 3. As the results of the questionnaire on perceptions of portfolio, they didn't understand it very well but after learning portfolio, they showed positive attitude to perceptions of portfolio. Students in portfolio applied science instruction like more the portfolio applied science instruction than general instruction. 4. Portfolio applied science instruction has an useful value as a method of teaching and evaluation. Students and teachers can produce various portfolios products in portfolio applied science instruction. As a conclusion, portfolio applied science instruction was not statistically meaningful on the students' scientific affective domain, but it gives positive effects on perceptions of portfolio in elementary schools. Therefore, portfolio has an educational value as a method of teaching and evaluation for students' growth. In the future, teachers and students must have interaction and feedback in portfolio applied science instruction.

In this study, we investigated the elementary school students' perceptions of the scientific and technological professions by using the 'drawing scientific and technological workplaces'. The subjects were 401 students of 4th and 6th grades at three elementary schools in Seoul. The results revealed that many students drew the interiors of laboratories or factories as scientific and technological workplaces, and explained the nature of the work- place, but students' images were superficial and general. Most students' drawings also exhibited the stereotypical images of science and technology as androcentric and negative perceptions. Students were mainly inclined to perceive that the works relevant to science were experiments, and the works relevant to technology were productions and repairs. Most students answered more than two examples of scientific and technological professions, but their responses were not various and were biased toward basic scientists, blue-collar workers, and repairers. Educational implications of these findings were discussed.
This study investigated undergraduate students' perceptions and mental models of the environment. A total of 192 students were sampled from a university of Gyoungbuk area. The environmental task was administrated to students drew a picture of an environment and explained their drawing. The results are as follows: First, a majority of undergraduate students perceived an environment from a comfortable environment. Second, five mental models emerged from a content analysis of students' responses about environmental drawing. Third, the dominant model was mental model 4, the environment as a place where animals, plants, and humans live. This means that the majority of students perceived a 'relation' rather than 'objects' views of the environment. Therefore, undergraduate students' conceptualizations about environment depends on a view or mental models of the environment which places humans in a sustaining relationship with the environment and its natural resources. The implications of these findings for environmental education are discussed.
The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of two different types of texts, which were narrative and expository, on the understanding of content. Elementary students' perceptions of the two types of the texts were also investigated. In the comparison of the effects on the understanding of the text contents, test scores of mind-mapping, closed-answer question, and essay test were used. The analyses of mind-mapping tests showed narrative text was more effective to figure out main concepts of the text throughout the mind-mapping test. But expository text was more effective in the hierarchical organization of the concepts. In the closed-answer questions and essay test, narrative text was more effective than expository text. However when the contents of text were difficult and complex, there was no meaningful difference between the two types of texts. The analyses of students' perceptions of the texts showed that narrative texts were preferred. Students perceived that the narrative text was more interesting and familiar. However, the perceptions of helpful text for their science learning were not different by the types of texts.
