  • In this experimental paper, the maximum scour depth at pier was student. The model of the pier of San Gye bridge in the Bocheong stream was set for the experimental studies. Several model verification processes were conducted through the roughness comparisons between model and prototype, pursuing scour depth variations with time depending upon channel bed variation, the comparison of the ratios between falling velocities and shear velocities in the model and prototype, and the comparison of pier scour depths between experimental data and field measuring data. The experiments were conducted in the free flow conditions and pressure flow conditions. The maximum scour depth at piers in the pressure flow conditions is almost twice as much as compared to the free flow conditions. Also, the maximum scour depth variations are indicated in the figures based on the Froude numbers, opening ratios, water depths and approaching angles in the free surface flow conditions.

  • Social network games (SNGs), a rapidly growing online game genre, are built and played on social network sites. SNGs provide an online world for enjoying leisure time and interpersonal communication, and an increasing numbers of college students are involved in such game-playing as a leisure time activity. Despite the popularity, relatively few studies have been conducted to investigate the nature of game players, especially the meaning of such leisure time behavior by college students. This paper's aim was to explore a subjective meaning structure of online social network game play. The means-end chain model was used to link attributes of SNGs to the underlying values of game playing as a leisure activity. The results revealed two emerging end-values: the need for bridging and a sense of belonging. This study sheds light on the meaning of college students' leisure activities when playing social network games.

  • This study was conducted to develop and test the hypothetical model which explains smoking cessation behavior was established based on the Triandis' interpersonal behavior theory. Method: The data were collected from the 400 university student smokers enrolled in the universities located in Seoul and Kyung-In province. The study was analyzed by path analysis with LIESREL 8 program. Results: All of the fit statistics, except the Chi-square value, it showed the hypothetical model was well fitted to the data. Benefit, affect, and social influences related to smoking cessation behavior had significant direct effect on intention to smoking cessation as shown in the study of the hypothetical model. Perceived barrier and the physiologic arousal related to smoking cessation had significant direct effects on performing smoking cessation behavior, whereas numbers of previous attempts to quit smoking and intention to smoking cessation did not.

  • The Korean society for health education and promotion was established in 1982. The following year, the first journal of the Korean society for health education and promotion was published It has been 20 years since the first journal was published. For the future possibilities of the journal this study examined the annals of the journals and the characteristics of those articles. To do that, 8 variables were chosen: year of publication, volume number, numbers of researchers, types of articles, study field, research subjects, and trends of the study. A great growth has been noticed during the last 20 years. However, it was found that only limited study fields were investigated and the most frequently adopted study subject was a student groups. Most of the studies were carried out for the purpose of providing basic information in their study fields. It is noted that for the next decade the journal should assure the quality of articles.

  • Purpose: To analyze the exposure of middle school students to pornography. Method The Questionnaire. The data collected were from November 6 to November 12, 2000. The subjects of this study consisted of 664 middle school students in Kangwon Province. The data collected were analyzed using, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test and Pearson Correlation. The Result: The most frequently viewed program was computer pornography. Except no response about eighty-five percent (85%) of the subjects viewed the pornography prior to elementary school. Moreover, The subjects viewed pornography for the first time in a PC room. Lastly, this study found that there was a significant relationship between the frequency. consumed time and numbers of viewing media violence and the impulse to imitate and imitation acting after viewing the pornography. Conclusion: Realistic and future-directed strategies should be developed for middle school students to decrease their exposure to pornography.

  • An experimental study was performed for measuring velocity and turbulence intensity in a circular tube for Re= 10,000, 15,000 and 20,000, with swirl and without swirling flow. The velocity fields were measured using PIV techniques and swirl motion was produced by a tangential inlet condition. Some preliminary measurements indicated that over the first 4 diameter, two regions of flow reversal were set up (the so called 2-cell structure). At the highest Reynolds numbers, the maximum values of the measured axial velocity components had moved toward the test tube wall and produce more flow reversal at the conter of the tube. As the Reynolds number increased, the turbulence intensity of swilling flow at the tube inlet also increased.

  • Women's educational opportunities have been increasing and women's general advancement in higher education is the underlying factor behind the increasing number of female students in medical school. A number of issues affect female students and residents, including the existence of gender bias and sexual harassment, higher stress levels and lower levels of work satisfaction, the lack of role models in academic medicine, and conflict between work and family roles, including challenges surrounding having children. To what extent female and male medical students and residents make different career and life style choices is also an important issue. The shortage of doctors in surgical departments and maldistribution among specialties are of great concern in the health care system and medicine's future. We must prepare to solve these problems. New medical policies and educational approaches are needed for the future.

  • This study was carried out to analyze moving awareness of students to physical conditions and attitudes on user's place to moving route. Moving awareness and route choice of students on variation type were grasped through questionnaire. As the results, the satisfaction degree, moving awareness and elapsed time for adaptation of students to physical facilities associated with moving class were antithetical to numbers of class and student. The more students, the more negative the moving itself. Especially, students showed a different tendency to route choice of high frequency moving and possession awareness of their belongings according to spatial nearness and composition of homebase. These basic data will be utilizable to suggest various model for composition and rearrangement of school space.

  • In this paper, we have revisited the estimation of the rotational stiffness of sidewall of radial tire and have suggested a new method for evaluation of the rotational stiffness. Since thicknesses, and volume fractions of the constituents of sidewall are varied depending on radial position, the equivalent shear modulus of the sidewall also depends on radial position. For the estimation of rotational stiffness of sidewall's rubber, we have divided its cross-section into sufficient numbers of small parts and have calculated the equivalent shear modulus of each part of sidewall. Using the shear moduli of divided parts, we have obtained the rotational stiffness by employing in-plane shear deformation theory. This method is expected to be a useful tool in tire design since it relates such basic variables to the global stillness of tire. Applying the calculation method to a radial tire of P205/60R15, we have compared its rotational stiffness with experimental one.
