  • A ring filter is proposed as a wide-banded filter. It consists of a ring and two short stubs, which are connected at 90$^{\circ}$ and 270$^{\circ}$ points of the ring. Since the termination impedance at 90$^{\circ}$ and 270$^{\circ}$ points of the ring and the characteristic impedance of the short stub have an effect on designing of it, the relation between them and bandwidths has been studied. Based on the study, two types of small-sized wideband CVT(constant VSWR-type impedance transformer)- and CCT(constant conductance-type impedance transformer)-ring filters are introduced, designed, simulated and one of two, a CCT -ring filter, is tested. The circumference of the ring can be reduced theoretically up to 60$^{\circ}$ and two of many cases having about 300$^{\circ}$ circumferences are simulated. The simulated results show more than 100 % fractional bandwidth, which can be obtained with more than 5 stages in conventional filter-design techniques. To test the designed CCT-ring filter, it has been fabricated in microstrip technology and the measured results show good agreement with the simulated ones, having more than 100 % fractional bandwidth.

  • The design of structural frameworks for buildings is constantly evolving and is dependent on regional issues such as loading and constructability. One of the most promising recent developments for low to medium rise construction in terms of efficiency of construction, robustness and aesthetic appearance utilises concrete-filled steel tubular sections as the columns in a moment-resisting frame. These are coupled to rigid or semi-rigid connections to composite steel-concrete beams. This paper includes the results of a pilot experimental programme leading towards the development of economical, reliable connections that are easily constructed for this type of frame. The connections must provide the requisite strength, stiffness and ductility to suit gravity loading conditions as well as gravity combined with the governing lateral wind or earthquake loading. The aim is to develop connections that are stiffer, less expensive and easier to construct than those in current use. A proposed fabricated T-stub connection is to be used to connect the beam flanges and the column. These T-stubs are connected to the column using "blind bolts" with extensions, allowing installation from the outside of the tube. In general, the use of the extensions results in a dramatic increase in the strength and stiffness of the T-stub to column connection in tension, since the load is shared between membrane action in the tube wall and the anchorage of the bolts through the extensions into the concrete.

  • In this study, we propose an automated unit test generation technique for detecting vulnerabilities of Android kernel modules. The technique automatically generates unit test drivers/stubs and unit test inputs for each function of Android kernel modules by utilizing dynamic symbolic execution. To reduce false alarms caused by function pointers and missing pre-conditions of automated unit test generation technique, we develop false alarm reduction techniques that match function pointers by utilizing static analysis and generate pre-conditions by utilizing def-use analysis. We showed that the proposed technique could detect all existing vulnerabilities in the three modules of Android kernel 3.4. Also, the false alarm reduction techniques removed 44.9% of false alarms on average.

  • In this paper, we have designed artificial double negative(DNG) transmission line composed of series inter-digital capacitor and two shunt inductive short stubs. This artificial DNG transmission line has the property of double positive (DPS) transmission line over some frequency ranges due to RF nature. In detail, this transmission line simultaneously has the contrary properties of DNG and DPS transmission line depending on operation frequency. DPS/DNG transmission line at leaky region is utilized to design frequency scanning antenna with backfire-to-endfire. We have simulated and measured the dispersion and for-field radiation beam patterns of symmetrical leaky wave antenna. The results show rough agreement.

  • In this paper we proposed a novel dual-band compact folded patch antenna with the same linear polarizations and high isolation characteristic between the two frequency range. The antenna is loaded with a high permittivity dielectric material in order to reduce the antenna size and open circuit stubs are used in order to broaden the bandwidth. The fractional bandwidths of the optimized antenna with demensions 4 mm${\times}$3 mm${\times}$5 mm are 3.0 % at 5.6 GHz band and 2.8 % at 5.8 GHz band, respectively. The isolation characteristic between the two ports is less than -26 dB within the operating frequency range.

  • This paper presents a compact structure composed of an upper high-impedance transmission line, a middle extended parallel coupled line, and a pair of inter-coupled symmetrical stepped impedance stubs. Detailed investigation into this structure based on an equivalent circuit analysis reveals that this proposed structure exhibits a quasi-elliptic low-pass filtering response with three transmission zeros. Moreover, the positions of the three transmission zeros can be tuned and reallocated flexibly by choosing the proper circuit parameters. Finally, the design concept is validated through the design, fabrication, and measurement of two exemplary low-pass filters (LPFs) with one single unit and two cascaded asymmetric units. The measured results agree well with the simulated results. In addition, in the range of $1.42f_c$ to $7.03f_c$, the fabricated quasi-elliptic LPFs experimentally demonstrate a very wide upper-stopband of 20 dB using a compact size of only $0.0089{\lambda}_g{^2}$, where ${\lambda}_g$ is the guided wavelength of a $50{\Omega}$ transmission line at the central frequency.

  • In this paper, a novel type of wideband single-patch microstrip antenna using the reactive-loading technique is presented. We demonstrated that, by inserting stubs at both of the radiating edges, the frequencies of the two resonant modes are closely spaced to form a wide operating bandwidth. Segmentation technique and cavity model are used to analyze the antenna characteristics and experimental data are show to be in good agreement with the calculated results. With the proposed structure, the measured antenna bandwidth of 230MHz is obtained, which is almost 2.65 times larger than that of an unloaded rectangular patch antenna and fully covers the whole frequency range of 1.885GHz~2.025GHz allocated to IMT-2000.

  • The rotational behaviour of bolted extended end plate beam-to-column connections is evaluated in the context of the component method. The full moment-rotation response is characterized from the force-deformation curve of the individual joint components. The deformability of end plate connections is mostly governed by the bending of the column flange and/or end plate and tension elongation of the bolts. These components form the tension zone of the joint that can be modelled by means of "equivalent T-stubs". A systematic analytical procedure for characterization of the monotonic force-deformation behaviour of individual T-stub connections is proposed. In the framework of the component method, the T-stub is then inserted in the joint spring model to generate the moment-rotation response of the joint. The procedures are validated with the results from an experimental investigation of eight statically loaded extended end plate bolted moment connections carried out at the Delft University of Technology. Because ductility is such an important property in terms of joint performance, particularly in the partial strength joint scenario, special attention is given to this issue.

  • In this paper, the bandpass filter for ITS system of 5.8 GHz is proposed by using the dual-mode resonator with the radial stub. As alternating the open stub with the radial stub, the size of the dual mode resonator can be reduced about 39.6% and the out-of-band characteristics of the bandpass filter using dual mode resonator can be enhanced from 19.4 dB to 29.1 dB by using the stub of $6.9{\Omega}$ i.e. realized by parallel two radial stubs with $60^{\circ}$ angle. The fabricated bnadpass filter using the dual mode resonator has the center frequency of 5.72 GHz with the fractional bandwidth of 4.1%. Also, the filter has the insertion loss and return loss of 1.79 dB and 19.4 dB, respectively.

  • In this paper, a microstripline-type linear amplitude equalizer is implemented to achieve the linearity of the slope of the amplitude over $6{\sim}18$ GHz with resistors inserted between their immediate pairs of a TX-line and a stub. The values of resistors and stubs are explored to have the optimal linear slope and return loss performance. Experiments reveal the slope of around 9 dB variation and return loss of less than 10 dB desired over $6{\sim}18$ GHz and validate the design methodology.
