  • Dynamic Programming Matching (DPM) is a mathematical optimization technique for sequentially structured problems, which has, over the years, played a major role in providing primary algorithms in pattern recognition fields. Most practical applications of this method in signature verification have been based on the practical implementational version proposed by Sakoe and Chiba [9], and il usually applied as a case of slope constraint p = 0. We found, in this case, a modified version of DPM by applying a heuristic (forward seeking) implementation is more efficient, offering significantly reduced processing complexity as well as slightly improved verification performance.

  • There have been considerable researches for solving large-scale separable convex optimization ptoblems. In this paper we present a method for large-scale nonseparable smooth convex optimization problems with block-angular linear constraints. One of them is occurred in reconfiguration of the virtual path network which finds the routing path and assigns the bandwidth of the path for each traffic class in ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network [1]. The solution is approximated by solving a sequence of the block-angular structured separable quadratic programming problems. Bundle-based decomposition method [10, 11, 12]is applied to each large-scale separable quadratic programming problem. We implement the method and present some computational experiences.

  • since the controller is part or the overall closed-Loop system, it is necessary that the designed controller be able to tolerate some uncertainty in its coefficients. The adequate stability and performance margins are required for the designed nominal controllers. In the paper. we study the method to design the non-fragile fixed-structured controller for real parametric uncertain systems. When we impose the controller parameter perturbation, the structure of the controller must be given. Therefore, we assume that the controller has fixed-structure. The fixed-structure controller is practically necessary especially when the robust controller synthesis results in a high-order controller. In SISO systems, we propose the robust controller design method using the Mapping theorem. In the method, the plant uncertainty and controller Parameter are of the multilineal form in the stability and performance conditions. Then, the controller synthesis problem is easily recast to Linear Programming Problem.

  • A structured user-friendly procedures which enable users to program in GRAFCET form directly from sequence specifications have been developed. Using these procedures, we can program the programmable logic controller (PLC) in sequential control and realize programming, debugging, and real-time monitoring. GRAFCET has many advantages like parallelism expression, so we can expect higher productivity and easier maintenance than boolean language or relay-ladder diagram specification when adapts them to PLC.

  • This paper presents optimized structured treatment interruption to reduce medication and establish long-term immune response against HIV-infection. Understanding HIV-related immune system control enables better HIV therapy without using fulltreatments. Discrete regimen and continuous regimen characteristics are compared. Controllability of HIV-related immune system is analyzed for better understanding of optimal control in HIV therapy. Using optimal control provides more effective therapy than the full treatment without interruption in terms of controllability analysis. Case studies indicates that the proposed therapy induces long-erm non-progression while preserving high CD4 T-helper cell count and low virus load in HIV-infected patients.

  • The structured lighting technique is a very accurate depth measurement method. One problem in this technique is that the laser light is invisible very often partly or as a whole caused from occlusion, light absorbtion, and reflection on the surface. If there is no laser light detected on a row of the image frame, the depth could not be computed at the point on the row. In this paper, a Dynamic Programing-based efficient laser line tracking algorithm is proposed to find the most likely line of the laser light utilizing all the possible information of the laser light trace. The performance of the algorithm is shown.

  • A nonlocal finite element model is developed for solving elasto-static frictional contact problems of nanostructures and nanoscale devices. A two dimensional Eringen-type nonlocal elasticity model is adopted. The material is characterized by a stress-strain constitutive relation of a convolution integral form whose kernel is capable to take into account both the diffusion process of nonlocal elasticity and the scale ratio effects. The incremental convex programming procedure is exploited as a solver. Two examples of different nature are presented, the first one presents the behavior of a nanoscale contacting system and the second example discusses the nano-indentation problem.

  • For successful implementation of robotic painting system, a structured design and analysis procedure is necessary. In designing robotic system, both functional and economical feasibility should be investigated. As the robotization is complicated task involving implementation details(such as robot selection, accessory design, and spatial layout) together with operation details, a computerized method should be sought. However, any conventional robotic design system and off-line programming system cannot accomodate such a need. In this research, we develop an interactive design support system for robotization of a cycle painting line. With the developed system called SPRPL(Simulation Package for Robotic Painting Line) users can design the painting objects(via FRAME module), select robot model (ROBOT), design the part hanger (FEEDER), and arrange the workcell. After motion programming (MOTION), the design is evaluated in terms of: a) workspace analysis, b) coating thickness analysis, and c) cycle time (ANALYSIS). By iterative design and evaluation procedure, a feasible and efficient robotic design can be attained. As the developed system has motion planning and analysis features, it can be also used as an off-line robot programming system in operation stage. Including the details of each module, this paper also presents a case study made for an actual painting line.
