An Evaluation of Blast Resistance Performance of RC Columns According to the Shape of Cross Section (단면의 형상에 따른 철근콘크리트 기둥의 폭발저항 성능 평가)

  • The alternative load path method based on a column removal scenario has been commonly used to protect building structures from being progressively collapsed due to probable blast loading. However, this method yields highly conservative result when the columns still have substantial load resisting capacity after blast. In this study, the behavior of RC columns with rectangular and circular sections under the blast loading was investigated and the remaining capacity of the partially damaged columns was compared. AUTODYN which is a hydrocode for the analysis of the structure on the impact and blast loading was used for this study. The blast loading was verified with the experiment results. The analysis results showed that the circular columns are preferable to the rectangular ones in respect of the blast resistance performance.

LARGE EDDY SIMULATION OF THERMAL STRIPING IN THE UPPER PLENUM OF FAST REACTOR (대와동모사법을 사용한 고속로 상부플레넘에서의 thermal sriping 해석)

  • A computational study of a thermal striping in the upper plenum of PGSFR(Prototype Generation-IV Sodium-cooled Fast Reactor) being developed at the KAERI(Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) is presented. The LES(Large Eddy Simulation) approach is employed for the simulation of thermal striping in the upper plenum of the PGSFR. The LES is performed using the WALE (Wall-Adapting Local Eddy-viscosity) model. More than 19.7 million unstructured elements are generated in upper plenum region of the PGSFR using the CFX-Mesh commercial code. The time-averaged velocity components and temperature field in the complicated upper plenum of the PGSFR are presented. The time history of temperature fluctuation at the eight locations of solid walls of UIS(Upper Internal Structure) and IHX(Intermediate Heat eXchanger) are additionally stored. It has been confirmed that the most vulnerable regions to thermal striping are the first plate of UIS. From the temporal variation of temperature at the solid walls, it was possible to find the locations where the thermal stress is large and need to assess whether the solid structures can endure the thermal stress during the reactor life time.

  • The ration of payload to weight of industrial robot amounts form 1:10 to 1:30. Compared with man who have a ration of 3:1, it is very low. One of the goals for the next generation of robots will be a ration. This might be possible only by developing lightweight robots. When two-link flexible arm is rotated about an joint axis, transverse vibration may occur. In this paper, vibration dynamics of flexible arm is modeled by using Bernoulli-Euler beam theory and Lagrange equation. Using the fact that matrix $\dot{D}-2C$ is skew symmetric, new controllers which have a simplified structure with less computational burden is proposed by using Lyapunov stability theory. We propose deterministic and adaptive control laws for two link flexible arm, and the validity of the proposed control scheme is shown in computer simulation for two-link flexible arm.

A Study on the Transition of Work-Family Reconciliation Policy and Gender Regime -Focusing on Recent Introduction of Parents Benefit- (독일 일-가정 양립정책과 젠더레짐 변화에 대한 연구 -최근 부모수당제도의 도입을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the reality and dynamics of transition of work-family reconciliation policy and gender regime in Germany to focus on recent introduction of parents benefit by applying meta path analysis. There is made of 'layering' in work-family reconciliation policy area. Because political barrier has alleviated they can introduce parents benefit, but cannot help stick to child care benefit because of internal barrier. But because parents benefit has activated by 'differential growth', German gender regime has suffered core transition of complementation that dominant structure has changed from 'sequential reconciliation' to 'concomitant reconciliation'. On the other hand, by 'purposeful decoupling' of gender area, core activists have attempted to cut the possibility of weakening of coordination relationship on main institutional areas of German model.

Aerodynamic Characteristics of Giromill with High Solidity (높은 솔리디티를 갖는 자이로밀의 공기역학적 특성)

  • A 3-dimensional unsteady numerical analysis has been performed to evaluate the aerodynamic characteristics of a Giromill. Generally, the structure of a Giromill is simple and therefore easy to develop. In addition, the high solidity of the Gironmill helps improve the self-starting capacity at a low tip speed ratio (TSR). However, contrary to the Darrieus wind turbine which has a TSR of 4-7, a Giromill has a low TSR of 1-3. In this study, the aerodynamic characteristics of the Giromill are investigated using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Three straight-bladed wings are used, and the solidity of the Giromill is 0.75. In contrast to a Darrieus wind turbine having low solidity, the Giromill shows a sudden decrease in the aerodynamic performance because of the interference between the wings and an increase in the drag on the wings in the downstream direction where wind flow is significantly reduced. Consequently, the aerodynamic performance decreased at a TSR value lower than 2.4.

  • The WGR model was developed to represent meso-scale precipitation. As a conceptual model, this model shows a good link between atmospheric dynamics and statistical description of meso-scale precipitation(Waymire et al., 1984). However, as it has maximum 18 parameters along with its non-linear structure, its parameter estimation has been remained a difficult problem. There have been several cases of its parameter estimation for different fields using non-linear programming techniques(NLP), which were also difficult tasks to hamper its wide applications. In this study, we estimated the WGR model parameters of the Han river basin using the genetic algorithm(GA) and compared them to the NLP results(Yoo and Kwon, 2000). As a result of the study, we can find that the sum of square error from the GA provide more consistent parameters to the seasonal variation of rainfall. Also, we can find that the higher rainfall amount during summer season is closely related with the arrival rate of rain bands, not the rain cell intensity.

Study of Effects of Measurement Errors in Damage Detection (동적 측정오차가 손상탐지에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • A modal method is presented for the investigation of the effects of measurement errors in damage detection for dynamic structural systems. The structural modifications to the baseline system result in the response changes of the perturbed structure, which are measured to determine a unique system in the inverse problem of damage detection. If the numerical modal data are exact, mathematical programming techniques can be applied to obtain the accurate structural changes. In practice, however, the associated measurement errors are unavoidable, to some extent, and cause significant deviations from the correct perturbed system because of the intrinsic instability of eigenvalue problem. Hence, a self-equilibrating inverse system is allowed to drift in the close neighborhood of the measured data. A numerical example shows that iterative procedures can be used to search for the damaged structural elements. A small set of selected degrees of freedom is employed for practical applicability and computational efficiency.

  • This paper describes the development of new sweeping machine based on Cyclone Technology, which maintains constant suction power and uses it in a industrial applications as a method for dust removed from grinding work. The performance of a cyclone separator is determined by the turbulence characteristics and particle-particle interaction. To achieve this goal, we design cyclone technology based dust separator for sweeping machine has been proposed as a system which is suitable to work utilizing dust suction alternative to conventional manual system. and Numerical analysis with computational fluid dynamics(CFD) was carried out to investigate the working fluid that flow into cyclone dust separator in order to design optimal structure of the sweeping machine. The validation of cyclone model with CFD is carried out by comparing with experimental results.

A Numerical Study on the Effect of Mountainous Terrain and Turbine Arrangement on the Performance of Wind Power Generation (지형에 따른 발전기 배치가 풍력 발전 성능에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치해석 연구)

  • A three-dimensional flow simulation was performed to investigate the flow field in a wind farm on a complex terrain. The present study aims to examine the effects of mountainous terrain and turbine arrangement on the performance of wind power generation. A total of 49 wind turbines was modeled in the computational domain; detailed blade shape of the turbines was considered. Frozen rotor method was used to simulate the rotating operation. The torque acting on the turbine blades was calculated to evaluate the performance of the wind turbines. The numerical results showed details of the flow structure in the wind farm including the velocity deficit in the separated flow regions; this velocity deficit was due to the topographical effect. The effect of the wake induced by the upstream turbine on the performance of the downstream wind turbine could also be observed from the results. The methodology of the present study can be used for selecting future wind-farm sites and wind-turbine locations in a selected site to ensure maximum power generation.

Recognition of Unconstrained Handwritten Numerals using Modified Chaotic Neural Networks (수정된 카오스 신경망을 이용한 무제약 서체 숫자 인식)

  • This paper describes an off-line method for recognizing totally unconstrained handwritten digits using modified chaotic neural networks(MCNN). The chaotic neural networks(CNN) is modified to be a useful network for solving complex pattern problems by enforcing dynamic characteristics and learning process. Since the MCNN has the characteristics of highly nonlinear dynamics in structure and neuron itself, it can be an appropriate network for the robust classification of complex handwritten digits. Digit identification starts with extraction of features from the raw digit images and then recognizes digits using the MCNN based classifier. The performance of the MCNN classifier is evaluated on the numeral database of Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. For the relative comparison of recognition performance, the MCNN classifier is compared with the recurrent neural networks(RNN) classifier. Experimental results show that the classification rate is 98.0%. It indicates that the MCNN classifier outperforms the RNN classifier as well as other classifiers that have been reported on the same database.
