  • A form of measured temperature distribution to estimate condition of a electrical apparatus is a absolute reference for condition of the apparatus, time rate of transition, and difference between reference and currently temperature. Because passive thermography which has not injection of external thermal stimulation shows difference of temperature being on surface of a structure and temperature difference between the structure and back ground, the result could apply only to estimation or monitor for condition of terminal relaxation and overload related with temperature rising. However, a thermal flow in active thermography is differently generated by structure and condition of surface and subsurface. This paper presents the nondestructive testing using the properties and includes the results by heat injection and cooling to the apparatus. The buried discontinuity of subsurface could be detected by these techniques.

  • Electron beam physical vapor deposition (EB-PVD) process has currently been applied to thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) for aircraft engines. Due to unique columnar structure, EB-PVD TBCs have advantages in resistances to thermal shock and thermal cycle for their applications, compared to films prepared by plasma spray By the EB-PVD equipment, we successfully obtained yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) layer which has columnar and feather like structure including a large amount of nano size pores and gaps. The EB-PVD technique has been developed for coating functional perovskite type oxides such as (La, Sr)MnO3. Electrode properties have been improved by interface and structural control.

  • This paper aims to develop the diffused reflection material in order to reduce the solar absorption coefficient, and to compare the thermal properties with the different roof structure system; one is using the diffused reflection material applied the upper side of the rigid sheet waterproof system and the other is using the conventional up-side down waterproof system on the roof. For this purpose two experimental test boxes were made of same iso-panel wall and floor with different roof system. The experiment was carried out under these process; measure the surface temperature exposed solar radiation of the variation of the reflection materials(cement paste, silica, galvanized steel and titanium dioxide(TiO2)), measure and analyze the variation of the temperature distribution of the each roof system and indoor air in order to evaluate the thermal properties according to the different roof system. The result shows clearly that using the titanium dioxide(TiO2) might be more effective to reduce the solar insolation.

  • We investigated thermal, rheological, morphological and mechanical properties of a binary blend of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and poly(butylene succinate adipate) (PBSA). The blends were extruded and their molded properties were examined. DSC thermograms of blends indicated that the thermal properties of PLA did not change noticeably with the amount of PBSA, but thermogravimetric analysis showed that thermal stability of the blends was lower than that of pure PLA and PBSA. Immiscibility was checked with thermal data. The rheological properties of the blends changed remarkably with composition. The tensile strength and modulus of blends decreased with PBSA content. Interestingly, however, the impact strength of PLA/PBSA (80/20) blend was seriously increased higher than the rule of mixture. Morphology of the blends showed a typical sea and island structure of immiscible blend. The effect of the blend composition on the biodegradation was also investigated. In the early stage of the degradation test, the highest rate was observed for the blend containing $80wt\%$ PBSA.

  • In this work, the thermal and mechanical properties of vapor grown carbon nanofibers (VGCNFs)-reinforced difunctional epoxy (EP) composites were investigated in the presence of the 0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and $2wt\%$ VGCNFs. The thermal properties of the VGCNFs/EP composites were studied by thermo-mechanical analysis (TMA) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). The mechanical properties of the VGCNFs/EP composites were also examined by universal testing machine (UTM), falling impact test, and the friction and wear tests. From experimental results, the thermal and mechanical properties of the VGCNFs/EP composites were improved with increasing the VGCNFs contents. This was due to the increase of crosslinking structure of the composites, resulting in improving the mechanical interlockings between VGCNFs and epoxy resins in the present composite system.

  • The thermal conductivity of layered metal chalcogenides such as $MT_2$ (M = Mo, W; T = S, Se) shows a marked decrease after exfoliation and subsequent restacking process. Random stacking of two-dimensional crystalline sheets circumvents thermal conduction pathways along a longitudinal direction, which results in a reduction in thermal conductivity. $WS_2$ and $WSe_2$ compounds retain p-type conducting behavior after exfoliation and restacking with decreased electrical conductivity due to the change in carrier concentration. $MoSe_2$ compound exhibits metallic behavior < $130^{\circ}C$ with a small Seebeck coefficient, which results from metastable 1T-$MoSe_2$ structure of the restacked phase.

  • There have been many studies on the biological phenomena of Bioglasses, which nay be used as implant materials in human body. However, not many works on the Bioglass compositions have been reported. In the present study, the effect of Al2O3 substitution for SiO2 in Bioglass of Na2O-CaO-P2O5-SiO2 system on its structure and properties was examined. Infrared and Raman spectroscopic studies for the glass structural analysis, differential thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis for crystallization of the glass were perfomed. Several physical properties, such as thermal expansion coefficient, softening point, microhardness and reaction phenomena, were also measured. The major crystalline phase, after heat treatment of the glasses, was Na2Ca2(SiO2)3 and the crystal was transformed into other phase with increased substitution of Al2O3. The added Al2O3 reduced non-bridging oxygen in glass structure and thermal expansion coefficient, but increased glass density, sofening point and microhardness. When the glasses are reacted in Tris-buffer solution, the substituted Al2O3 inhibited the formation of hydroxyapatite on the Bioglas surface, and no hydroxyapatite was formed for the sample which contained more than 6wt.% of Al2O3 even if they were reacted for 600 hours.

  • This paper examines the effective thermal conductivity of 3-D braided glass/epoxy composites. 3-D braided composites have a number of advantage over conventional laminate composites, including through-thickness reinforcement, and high damage tolerance and processability. The thermal properties of composites depend primarily on the microstructure of the braided preform and properties of constituent materials. A thermal resistance network model based on structure of the braided preform is proposed by using thermal-electrical analogy. In order to affirm the applicability theses solutions, thermal conductivities of 3-D braided glass/epoxy composites are measured

  • Bioglasses have been known to be as one of the promising biomateials, which can be used for replacing defective hard and soft tissue. There have been many reports on biological results for this type of glass, but no systematic work has carried out on the structures and properties of the bioglass itself. In the present study, the effect of P2O5 in bioglasses on their structures and properties was examined. Infrared and Raman spectroscopy for the glass structural analysis, differential thermal and X-ray diffraction analysis for the crystallization of the bioglass were performed, and several physical properties were measured. When the glasses were heat-treated, Na2O.2CaO.3SiO2 was the major crystalline phase and $\beta$-NaCaPO4 crystal was found for the glass with high P2O5 content. The added P2O5 in the glasses enhanced the polymerization of silicate glass structure and it changed the chain-like glass structure to a sheet-like structure, and some P2O5 may stay as phosphate monomer. With addition of P2O5 in the glass the density of the glasses decreased, but not much changes in their thermal expansion coefficient, softening point and microhardness were observed.

  • To improve the poor mechanical and low-temperature properties of glycidyl azide polymer (GAP)-based propellants, the addition of binders was investigated using GAP and flexible polymer backbone-structural polycaprolactone (PCP) at various weight(wt) ratios, and varying the ratio of Desmodur N-100 pluriisocyanate (N-100) to isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI). Using Gee's theory, the solubility parameter of the PCP network was determined, in order to elucidate the physical and chemical interaction between GAP and PCP. The structure of the binder networks was characterized by measuring the cross-link densities and molecular weights between cross-links ($M_c$) obtained by a swelling experiment using Flory-Rhener theory. The thermal and mechanical properties of the segmented block copolyurethane (GAP-b-PCP) binders prepared by the incorporation of PCP into the binder recipes were investigated, along with the effect of the different curatives ratios.
