This paper presents an optimal pattern for distributing stiffness along a framed tube structure through an analytic equation, which may be used during the preliminary design stage. Most studies in this field are computationally intensive and time consuming, while a hand-calculation method, as presented here, is a more suitable tool for sensitivity analyses and parametric studies. Approach in development of the analytic model is to minimize the mean compliance (external work) for a given volume of material. A variational statement of the problem is made, and a specified deformation-profile is obtained as the necessary condition for a minimum; enforcing this condition, stiffness is then computed. Due to some near-zero values for stiffness, the problem is modified by considering a lower bound constraint. To deal with this constraint, the design domain is assumed to be divided into two zones of constant stiffness and constant curvature; and the problem is restated in terms of these concepts. It will be shown that this methodology allows for easy computation of stiffness through an analytic and dimensionless equation, valid in any system of units. To show practicality of the proposed method, a tubed-system structure with uniform stiffness distribution is redesigned using the proposed model. Comparative analyses of the results reveal that in addition to simplicity of the proposed method, it provides a rather high degree of accuracy for real-world problems.

Wave overtopping is one of the most important processes for the design of seawalls. The term "wave overtopping" is used here to refer to the processes where waves hit a sloping structure run up the slope and, if the crest level of the slope is lower than the highest run up level, overtop the structure. Wave overtopping is dependent on the processes associated with breaking wave. A numerical model based on Navier-Stokes equation and the Marker-density function for predicting wave overtopping of coastal structures is developed in this paper. In order to evaluate the present model, two simulations are tested. One is overflow without waves at vertical seawall, and the other is wave overtopping at sloping seawalls.

During the past 50 years methods for predicting wave overtopping of coastal structures have coastal structures have continuously been developed Wave overtopping is one of the most important processes for the design of seawalls. The term 'wave overtopping' is used here to refer to the processes where waves hit a sloping structure run up the slope and, if the crest level of the slope is lower than the highest run up level, overtop the structure. Wave overtopping is dependent on the processes associated with breaking wave. The Numerical model is based on Navier-Stokes equation and Marker-Density Function of method for nonlinear free-surface flow by Miyata & Park(1995). The influence of how the slopes of seawalls, wave type and crest freeboard affect overtopping discharges has been investigated. The research of study using the new development nonlinear free-surface flow numerical model SOLA-VOF are presented.
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the flexible structure of parabolic shell using photostrictive actuators. The analysis is made to know its dynamic behavior and light-induced control forces for coupled parabolic shell. The effects of an actuator location as well as membrane and bending components under the control action have been analyzed considering the approximate spherical model. The parabolic membrane shell accuracy is being mathematically approximated and validated comparing the light induced control forces using approximate equivalent spherical shell model. The parabolic shell with kapton smart material and photostrictive actuators has been used to formulate the governing equation in the transverse direction. The Kirchhoff-Love assumptions are used to obtain the governing equation of shell with actuator. The mechanical membrane forces and bending moments for parabolic thin shell with actuator is used to analyze the dynamic effect. The results show that membrane control action is much more significant than bending control action. Photostrictive actuators oriented along circumferential direction (actuator-2) can give better control effect than actuators placed along longitudinal direction (actuator-1). The slight difference is observed between spherical and parabolic shell for a surface with focal length to the diameter ratio of 1.00 or more than unity. Space applications often have the shape of parabolical shells or shell of revolution, due to their required focusing, aiming, or reflecting performance. The present approach is focused that photostrictive actuators can effectively control the vibration of parabolical membrane shell. Also, the actuator's location plays an important role in defining the control force.

The purpose of the study was to explore effective satisfaction factors for continuous partnerships between fashion companies and artists. A questionnaire was developed by the researchers and results were collected from a total of 273 people who were working for a fashion company or working as an artist. Data was analyzed by the use of a frequency test, a reliability test, an exploratory factor analysis and a structure equation model analysis using AMOS 18.0. The results of the study were as follow. First, profitability and adequacy had significant effects, but awareness had no effect on confidence concerning the partnership. Second, awareness and profitability showed significant effects, but adequacy showed no effect on the flow among those in the partnership. Third, confidence had a significant effect on flow. Fourth, among the partnership factors, confidence and flow had significant effects on partnership satisfaction. Fifth, flow showed a significant effect on the intent for a continuous partnership, but confidence showed no effect.

The purpose of this study was to find out criteria for classifying fashion brand from the consumer point of view. This was compared with the viewpoint of fashion business practice in order to develop strategy of fashion brands and to manage brand effectively and systematically, and to suggest theoretical frame for application of these criteria. This study was researched as the succeeding study of a model of criteria for classifying fashion brands from the viewpoint of fashion business practice. Survey was used as a research method. The subjects were 422 women who were 20-30 years old and living in and near Seoul. Questionnaires were developed based on 37 fashion brands' classification criteria by means of pre-survey, and SPSS package and LISREL program were used to analyze the data. As a result of factor analysis considering 37 classification criteria, 8 factors were identified as classification criteria. They were as follows; the level of brand form, the level of product concept, the level of management item, the level of brand sales ability, the level of customer management, the level of brand advertising and awareness, the level of brand value, and the level of product lead ability. All of criteria were correlated to each other. The effective method to classify fashion brands was proposed by establishing the model of the relationship of the values of 7 criteria and by proving it with the structure equation model analysis. The model of criteria for classifying fashion brands that was suggested on this study was proved by the structure equation model analysis. In this study, from a consumer's point of view we suggested a theoretical framework describing which criteria would be selected to classify and utilize fashion brand market. This model can be used to select the most efficient classification criteria and classify them hierarchically instead of selecting only one among some factors that complex and interactional and classifying.

When the vibration troubles occur on the ship structure during the sea trial, the rectification work is very restricted because of in-situ limitation. Usually the finite element method is used to improve vibration characteristics of the structure, but it takes lots of time and effort in modeling the structure and adjusting the finite element model in order to consider appropriate boundary conditions of a complex ship structure. Therefore, experimental methods have been in general suggested to obtain proper countermeasures without time-consuming in modeling. In this paper, FRF(frequency response function) synthesis method is applied to estimate natural frequency of the modified ship structure, which is obtained from experimental and numerical methods.

In order to improve the seismic behaviors of traditional steel-concrete mixed structure, a novel steel concrete mixed structure consisting of steel frames braced with buckling restrained braces (BRBs) and a concrete tube is proposed. Based on several assumptions, the simplified mechanical model of the novel mixed structure is established, and the shear and bending stiffness formulas of the steel frames, BRBs and concrete tube are respectively introduced. The equilibrium differential equation of the novel mixed structure under horizontal load is developed based on the structural elastic theory. The simplified algorithms to determine the lateral displacement and internal forces of the novel mixed structure under the inverted-triangle distributed load, uniformly load and top-concentrated load are then obtained considering several boundary conditions and compatible deformation conditions. The effectiveness of the simplified algorithms is verified by FEM comparison.
The stiffness of a structure is one of several structural signals that are useful indicators of the amount of damage that has been done to the structure. To accurately estimate the stiffness, an equation of motion containing a stiffness parameter must first be established by expansion as a linear series model, a Taylor series model, or a power series model. The model is then used in multivariate autoregressive modeling to estimate the structural stiffness and compare it to the theoretical value. Stiffness assessment for modeling purposes typically involves the use of one of three statistical model refinement approaches, one of which is the efficient Akaike information criterion (AIC) proposed in this paper. If a newly added component of the model results in a decrease in the AIC value, compared to the value obtained with the previously added component(s), it is statistically justifiable to retain this new component; otherwise, it should be removed. This model refinement process is repeated until all of the components of the model are shown to be statistically justifiable. In this study, this model refinement approach was compared with the two other commonly used refinement approaches: principal component analysis (PCA) and principal component regression (PCR) combined with the AIC. The results indicate that the proposed AIC approach produces more accurate structural stiffness estimates than the other two approaches.
