Purpose - In this article, a dynamic model like a VAR is an appropriate choice for estimating the possible interrelationship between ownership structure and firm performance as a dynamic process. Research design, data, and methodology - Data of this work are collected from Chinese stock exchange including 350 Chinese-listed firms during the period of 1999-2012. We hypothesize that this interrelationship dynamically exists between ownership structure and firm performance. To examine the correlation, a panel Vector Auto-regression (PVAR) approach generated by GMM method is utilized to test the possible dynamic relation embedded in corporate governance. Another two dynamic analysis solutions such as orthogonalized impulse-response function and variance decomposition are also used simultaneously. Results - Findings of this study indicate the evidence that dynamically endogenous relationship exists between ownership structure and firm performance. Further, there is a dynamical correlation between investment and performance. Impulse response and variance decomposition illustrate that impact of a shock to variables themselves is the main source for their variability. Conclusions - The conclusion in this study is that there is a bidirectional and inter-temporal effect between proportion of ownership and corporate performance for a long run in accordance with impulse response function. Overall, our results suggest that corporate governance in China is more market oriented.
Using the dynamic model and simulation program TDA developed in the previous paper, effects of design parameters of an agricultural tractor-trailer system on its vertical seat vibrations were investigated. The tractor-trailer system was excited by traversing over a half-sine bump. The excitation frequencies were determined by traveling velocity of the tractor and a half-sine bump selected appropriately. TDA predicted the autospectra of the vertical seat accelerations with different values of design parameters and compared them to analyze their effects. The design parameters included positions of engine, cab, and seat mountings as well as their dynamic properties. The results of this study suggested guidelines with which an improved structure of tractor may be developed in the early stage of design for a better ride quality.

This study investigates the seismic performance of a staggered wall structure designed with conventional strength based design, and compares it with the performance of the structure designed by capacity design procedure which ensures strong column-weak beam concept. Then the seismic reinforcement schemes such as addition of interior columns or insertion of rotational friction dampers at the ends of connecting beams are validated by comparing their seismic performances with those of the standard model structure. Fragility analysis shows that the probability to reach the dynamic instability is highest in the strength designed structure and is lowest in the structure with friction dampers. It is also observed that, at least for the specific model structures considered in this study, R factor of 5.0 can be used in the seismic design of staggered wall structures with proposed retrofit schemes, while R factor of 3.0 may be reasonable for standard staggered wall structures.
The dynamic characterization is important in making accurate predictions of the seismic response of the hybrid structures dominated by different damping mechanisms. Different damping characteristics arise from the construction of hybrid structure with different materials: steel for the upper part; reinforced concrete for the lower main part and interaction with supporting soil. The process of modeling damping matrices and experimental verification is challenging because damping cannot be determined via static tests as can mass and stiffness. The assumption of classical damping is not appropriate if the system to be analyzed consists of two or more parts with significantly different levels of damping. The dynamic response of structures is critically determined by the damping mechanisms, and its value is very important for the design and analysis of vibrating structures. A numerical algorithm capable of evaluating the equivalent modal damping ratio from structural components is desirable for improving seismic design. Two approaches are considered to explore the dynamic response of hybrid tower of cable-stayed bridges: The first approach makes use of a simplified model of 2 coupled lumped masses to investigate the effects of subsystems different damping, mass ratio, frequency ratio on dynamic characteristics and equivalent modal damping; the second approach employs a detailed numerical step-by step integration procedure.
This paper presents an integrated wind-induced dynamic analysis and computer-based design optimization technique for minimizing the structural cost of general tall buildings subject to static and dynamic serviceability design criteria. Once the wind-induced dynamic response of a tall building structure is accurately determined and the optimal serviceability design problem is explicitly formulated, a rigorously derived Optimality Criteria (OC) method is to be developed to achieve the optimal distribution of element stiffness of the structural system satisfying the wind-induced drift and acceleration design constraints. The effectiveness and practicality of the optimal design technique are illustrated by a full-scale 60-story building with complex 3D mode shapes. Both peak resultant acceleration criteria and frequency dependent modal acceleration criteria are considered and their influences on the optimization results are highlighted. Results have shown that the use of various acceleration criteria has different implications in the habitability evaluations and subsequently different optimal design solutions. The computer based optimization technique provides a powerful tool for the lateral drift and occupant comfort design of tall building structures.
The NF-${\kappa}B$ system of transcription factors plays a crucial role in inflammatory diseases, making it an important drug target. We combined quantitative structure activity relationships for predicting the activity of new compounds and quantitative dynamic models for the NF-${\kappa}B$ network with intracellular concentration models. GFA-MLR QSAR analysis was employed to determine the optimal QSAR equation. To validate the predictability of the $IKK{\beta}$ QSAR model for an external set of inhibitors, a set of ordinary differential equations and mass action kinetics were used for modeling the NF-${\kappa}B$ dynamic system. The reaction parameters were obtained from previously reported research. In the IKKb QSAR model, good cross-validated $q^2$ (0.782) and conventional $r^2$ (0.808) values demonstrated the correlation between the descriptors and each of their activities and reliably predicted the $IKK{\beta}$ activities. Using a developed simulation model of the NF-${\kappa}B$ signaling pathway, we demonstrated differences in $I{\kappa}B$ mRNA expression between normal and different inhibitory states. When the inhibition efficiency increased, inhibitor 1 (PS-1145) led to long-term oscillations. The combined computational modeling and NF-${\kappa}B$ dynamic simulations can be used to understand the inhibition mechanisms and thereby result in the design of mechanism-based inhibitors.
In general, a fundamental structural design consideration for an automobile is the overall dynamic behavior in bending and torsion. Dynamic behavior of the automobile are mainly influenced by the structural stiffness of B.I.W.(body-in-white) and the physical property of trim components. In this paper, the modeling techniques for various trim components of middle-sized bus are presented, and the dynamic effects of the trim components on the vibration characteristics of the bus are investigated. The $1^{st}$ torsional frequency is decreased by attaching windshield and backlite to the B.I.W., but the $1^{st}$ vertical bending frequency and the $1^{st}$ lateral bending frequency are increased. The natural frequencies of the bus are decreased by attaching doors and windows. And also, the natural frequencies of the bus are large decreased by attaching seats, instrument panel etc. The study shows that the dynamic characteristics of the bus can be effectively predicted in the initial design stage.
There have been lots of efforts to analyze the dynamic characteristics of mechanical systems. However, it is difficult to know the dynamic characteristics of mechanical systems composed of many parts with joints. Specially, in case of a bolted joint structure, no effective modeling method has been defined to acquire dynamic characteristics of the structure, using the finite element (FE) analysis. In this research, a linear dynamic model is developed for bolted joints and large interfaces using con frusta method and linear spring elements, respectively. The developed modeling method for bolted joints is verified based on the experimental result.

The development of a simulation system requires many sub modules such as a dynamic module, a visualization module, etc. If a different freeware is used for each sub modules, it is hard to develop the simulation system by incorporating them because they use their own data structures. To solve this problem, a high-level data structure, called Dynamics Scene Graph Data structure (DSGD) is proposed, by wrapping data structures of two freeware; an Open Dynamics Engine (ODE) for the dynamic module and an Open Scene Graph (OSG) for the visualization module. Finally, to evaluate the applicability of the proposed data structure, it is applied to the block erection simulation in shipbuilding. The result shows that it can be used for developing the simulation system.
