Due to its relatively good safety performance and aesthetic benefits, laminated glass (LG) is increasingly being used as load-carrying members in modern buildings. This paper presents an experimental study into one applicational scenario of structural LG subjected to in-plane bending. The aim of the study is to reveal the in-plane behaviors of the LG beams made up of multi-layered glass sheets. The LG specimens respectively consisted of two, three and four plies of glass, bonded together by two prominent adhesives. A total of 26 tests were carried out. From these tests, the structural behaviors in terms of flexural stiffness, load resistance and post-breakage strength were studied in detail, whilst considering the influence of interlayer type, cross-sectional interlayer percentage and presence of shear forces. Based on the test results, analytical suggestions were made, failure modes were identified, corresponding failure mechanisms were discussed, and a rational engineering model was proposed to predict the post-breakage strength of the LG beams. The results obtained are expected to provide useful information for academic and engineering professionals in the analysis and design of LG beams bending in-plane.
In the present day, the needs of new steel for lightweight car-body have been increased in the automotive industry. however, the resistance spot welding is difficult to apply to the new steel because of the narrow weld current range and defects. As the solutions to these problems, adhesive bonding process is proposed. Adhesive bonding which reduce noise and vibration can be applied to joining the new steel. In this study, crash tests of b-pillar applied the resistance spot welding, structural adhesive bonding, the mixture of the structural adhesives and resistance spot welding were performed. And FEM crash model for b-pillar applied the structural adhesive bonding was developed. The results of experiment and analysis on b-pillar crash test were compared to verify the validity.

Pull-off test is generally used to evaluate bond strength of FRP composite with concrete at job site. However, some damages on FRP composites can not be avoided during pull-off test and moreover test range of pull-off strength is limited by maximum tensile strength of concrete. Accordingly, it is required to set-up a test method that can evaluate mechanical properties of structural adhesive indirectly prior to pull-off test. In this study, the standard test methods for structural adhesive which can simply evaluate mechanical performance of adhesive were suggested through comparative experiments from each different standard in various countries. Particularly, gluing thickness of adhesive in tensile lap-shear tests, the section dimension of compression and bending test specimens become unified, and standard test specimen size is achieved by test results.

As the demand for natural gas that satisfies environmental regulations increases, the quantities of natural gas cargo that carrier can load is also increasing. Natural gas is transported in a liquefied state at -163 ℃ to increase loading efficiency. Among several LNG CCS types, MARK-III types are generally adopted in terms of loading efficiency. The secondary barrier adhesives of the MARK-III, nevertheless, is subjected to tensile stress due to thermal contraction and tension in the environment. In terms of these reasons, local analysis of the adhesive to evaluate the stress state must be carried out. According to previous studies, local analysis is unavailable since material properties for secondary barrier adhesives have not been reported. Thus, in this study, the cryogenic tensile test and coefficient of thermal expansion of epoxy and polyurethane (PU15, PU45), which are most widely used at cryogenic temperatures, were experimentally analyzed. At cryogenic temperature, the mechanical behavior of the polyurethane adhesive was better than epoxy of the adhesive. the joint of FSB and epoxy adhesive of the secondary barrier has the maximum coefficient of thermal expansion difference at 25 ℃ and minimum at -150 ℃, respectively.

Eco-friendly polyurethane can be defined as a highly utilized material used in various fields. The various structural properties of the synthesis of isocyanates and polyols provide versatility and customization for use in the manufacturing field. The characteristics of polyurethane vary widely from soft touch coatings to hard building materials like rocks. These mechanical, chemical and biological properties and ease of alignment are drawing tremendous attention not only in the field of research but also in related industries. In order to improve the performance of water-dispersible polyurethane materials, it can be derived through processes such as adjusting the blending of raw materials and adding additives and nanomaterials. This study highlights the basic chemical structure of eco-friendly water-dispersible polyurethane in the fields of medical science, automobiles, coatings, adhesives, paints, textiles, marine industries, wood composite materials, and clothing.
Adhesive joints are widely used for structural joining applications in various fields and environmental conditions. Polyurethane adhesive is using for LNG carrier with cryogenic temperature condition. Even if similar polyurethane adhesive is used for different substrate, it shows different adhesion properties. Specially, variation of adhesion properties depending on the resin system or fiber is very important factor for selection of adhesive on industrial application. In present study, we got different peel strength according to the different test temperature when different polyurethane adhesive was used for same fiber reinforced composite. The main cause was investigated using by SEM and it was proven that the different adhesion property between glass fiber on composite surface and polyurethane adhesives at cryogenic temperature.

The fire resistance design of timber structures involves calculating the residual section based on charring depth, which is then utilized in structural design. Charring depth is determined from fire-resistance test results in Korea, which currently do not account for the charring properties of the adhesive used in Glued Laminated Timber(GLT) production. This study fabricated GLT using various adhesives employed in domestic GLT production, comparing the charring properties by adhesive type and the fire resistance performance relative to the directionality of the laminated surface. Melamine demonstrated the most advantageous fire resistance performance, followed by resorcinol and polyurethane. Furthermore, it was established that the laminated section exhibited a higher charring rate, influenced by the adhesive, compared to the laminated surface, which significantly impacts the fire resistance performance.
Using bonded fiber-reinforced polymer laminates for strengthening wooden structural members has been shown to be an effective and economical method. In this research, properties of suitable composite materials (sika wrap), adhesives and two ways of strengthening beams exposed to bending moment are presented. Passive or slack reinforcement is one way of strengthening. The most effective way of such a strengthening was to place reinforcement laminates in the stretched part of the wooden beam (lower part in our case), in order to investigate the effectiveness of externally bonding FRP to their soffits. The model is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility requirements in and all parts of the strengthened beam, i.e., the wooden beam, the sika wrap composite plate and the adhesive layer. The theoretical predictions are compared with other existing solutions. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behaviour of the interface and design of the composite-wooden hybrid structures. The results showed that the use of the new strengthening system enhances the performance of the wooden beam when compared with the traditional strengthening system.
When an adhesive joint is exposed to high environmental temperature, the tensile load capability of the adhesive joint decreases because the elastic modulus and failure strength of structural adhesive decrease. The thermo-mechanical properties of structural adhesive can be improved by addition of fillers to the adhesive. In this paper, the elastic modulus and failure strength of adhesives as well as the tensile load capability of tubular single lap adhesive joints were experimentally and theoretically investigated with respect to the volume fraction of filler (alumina) and the environmental temperature. Also the tensile modulus of the fille containing epoxy adhesive was predicted using a new equation which considers filler shape, filler content and environmental temperature. The tensile load capability of the adhesive joint was predicted by using the effective strain obtained from the finite element analysis and a new failure model, from which the relation between the bonding length and the crack length was developed with respect to the volume fraction of filler.
In this work, adhesive tapes were prepared for the dicing process in semiconductor manufacturing. Compounds with different numbers of photoreactive groups (f = 1 to 3) were synthesized and incorporated into acrylic copolymers to formulate UV-curable acrylic adhesives. Structural confirmation of the synthesized photoreactive compounds (f = 2 or 3) was performed using nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The introduction of the photoreactive compounds into the acrylic adhesive was accomplished by urethane reactions, and the successful synthesis of the UV-curable acrylic adhesive was verified by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) measurements. To evaluate the performance of the adhesive, the peel strength was evaluated before and after UV irradiation using a silicon wafer as a substrate. The adhesive exhibited high peel strength (~2000 gf/25 mm) before UV exposure, which was significantly reduced (~5 gf/25 mm) after UV exposure. Interestingly, the adhesive containing multifunctional photoreactive compounds showed the most significant reduction in peel strength. In addition, surface residue measurements by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) showed minimal surface residue (~0.2%) after UV exposure. Overall, these results contribute to the understanding of the behavior of UV-curable acrylic adhesives and pave the way for potential applications in semiconductor manufacturing processes.
