  • The material properties and forrnabilities of tailored blanks are evaluated by experimental tests. In the tensile test, the gradient of strength coefficients of the heat affected zone associated with the welded line width represents the quality of a welded part. In the hemispherical dome punching test, the plane strain state of the welded line is observed. In the squared cupping test, the thin side is stretched more than the thick side in the stretch mode, while both sides are similarly stretched in the draw mode. In the 2D draw test, FLCo is measured in a simple manner and the forming defects of the tailored blanks with the same thickness are found.

  • Traditional section-based method develops blank along section planes and find trimming line by generating loop of end points. This method suffers from inaccurate results for regions with out-of-section motion. In this study, new fast method to find feasible trimming line is proposed. One step FEM is used to analyze the flanging and incremental development method is proposed to handle bad-shaped mesh and undercut part. Also in order to remedy mesh distortion during development, energy minimization technique is utilized. The proposed method is verified by shrink/stretch flange forming and successfully applied to the complex industrial applications such as door outer flanging process.

  • Spandex is a elastomeric fiber in which the-fiber-forming substance is a long chain polymer consisting of at least 85% segmented polyurethane. In the polyurethanes there are the additional oxygen atoms in the main chains of the molecule. The effect of these oxygen atoms is to make the molecule somewhat more flexible. From a physical point of view, elasicity and recovery from stretch are the most important properties of polyurethane, so its use has now expanded into many kitting industry. In this paper, I wish to Test the effect of dyeing condition on the quality of polyurethane.

  • The tensile properties of the extruded PC film were measured in the extrusion direction and perpendicular to the extrusion direction. The measured properties were the elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio at the glass transition temperature of PC. The measured orthotropic properties of the film were used for the computer simulation of vacuum forming. In this simulation, three mold shapes were tested: dome, trapezoid, and cubic, and the vacuum was applied between the mold surface and the heated film. The stress, strain, thickness, and stretch ratio distributions of the film in different mold shapes were observed and compared. The thermoforming simulation method used in this study and the obtained results, considering the determined orthotropic properties, can be applied to the thermoforming of various three-dimensional shapes.

  • In this work, we observed the effect of silica, zinc oxide, zinc ion coated silica on carboxylic acid modified styrenic thermoplastic elastomer (m-TPS) film for friction-induced surface fracture. m-TPS film added general silica showed poor mechanical properties, anti-abrasion and friction-induced surface fracture, caused by strong filler-filler interaction of silica. In case of m-TPS films added zinc oxide or zinc ion coated silica, mechanical properties, anti-abrasion and friction-induced surface fracture were improved due to forming ionic cluster between carboxylic acid group of m-TPS and zinc ion. Ionic cluster were confirmed by FT-IR analysis that observed zinc carboxylated group stretch peak at $1550{\sim}1650cm^{-1}$.

  • The R3V6 peptide includes a hydrophilic arginine stretch and a hydrophobic valine stretch. In previous studies, the R3V6 peptide was evaluated as a gene carrier and was found to have low cytotoxicity. However, the transfection efficiency of R3V6 was lower than that of poly-L-lysine (PLL) in N2A neuroblastoma cells. In this study, the transfection efficiency of R3V6 was improved in combination with high mobility group box 1A domain (HMGA). HMGA is originated from the nuclear protein and has many positively-charged amino acids. Therefore, HMGA binds to DNA via charge interaction. In addition, HMGA has a nuclear localization signal peptide and may increase the delivery efficiency of DNA into the nucleus. The ternary complex with HMGA, R3V6, and DNA was prepared and evaluated as a gene carrier. First, the HMGA/DNA complex was prepared with a negative surface charge. Then, R3V6 was added to the complex to coat the negative charges of the HMGA/DNA complex, forming the ternary complex of HMGA, R3V6, and DNA. A physical characterization study showed that the ternary complex was more stable than the PLL/DNA complex. The HMGA/R3V6/DNA complex had a higher transfection efficiency than the PLL/DNA, HMGA/DNA, or R3V6/DNA complexes in N2A cells. Furthermore, the HMGA/R3V6/DNA complex was not toxic to cells. Therefore, the HMGA/R3V6/DNA complex may be a useful gene delivery carrier.

  • The study is concerned with finite element analysis and design of axisymmetric deep drawing by local heating. When the bottom shape of a cup is not flat but in complex-shaped, i.e., hemispherical, the cup cannot be drawn in one or two processes in the conventional deep drawing process and the limit drawing ratio is limited as well. By introducing local heating selectively with regards to the heating position, the formability of the sheet metal can be greatly increased with the reduced number of processes. In the Process analysisthe rigid- viscoplastic finite element method is employed and the temperature effect is incorporated. Bishop's step-wise decoupled method is employed to analyze the thermomechanical interaction between deformation and heat transfer. Axisymmetric deep drawing of a hemisphere-bottomed cup has been analyzed for various combinations of heat application in the punch and the die. At the first stage of deep drawing stretch forming is practically carried out by firmly pressing the blankholder with the punch and the die heated at various levels of temperature. Then at the second stage the same cup is drawn for the saame or different combination of temperature. From the computation, it has thus been shown that the fromability of a cup is greatly increased in two-stage deep drawing with increased limet drawing ratio.

  • In this study, we observed the effect of carboxylated SBR latex and zinc oxide on styrene-butadiene-styrene( SBS) composites for improving abrasion and debris. SBS composite, which added only silica, showed poor mechanical properties, NBS abrasion, and debris, caused by strong filler-filler interaction of silica. In case of adding carboxylated SBR latex, mechanical properties, NBS abrasion and debris of SBS composite were improved. Because of carboxyl group of carboxylated SBR latex interacted with silanol group of silica. Both carboxylated SBR latex and zinc oxide were added, SBS composite showed highest mechanical properties, NBS abrasion, and debris by forming ion cluster between carboxylated SBR latex and zinc oxide. By FT-IR analysis, ion clusters were confirmed that observed zinc carboxylated group stretch peak at $1550{\sim}1650cm^{-1}$ range. SBS composite, SC-4, showed excellent mechanical properties ; tensile strength $156kgf/cm^2$, elongation 936%, tear strength 59.4kgf/cm ; and excellent abrasion characteristics ; NBS abrasion 338%. Also, debris of SC-4 was minimized and showed wave-shape in fracture surface.

  • In most of automobile body panel manufacturing, trimming process is generally performed before flanging. To find feasible trimming line is crucial in obtaining accurate edge profile after flanging. Section-based method develops blank along manually chosen section planes and find trimming line by generating loop of end points. This method suffers from inaccurate results of edge profile. On the other hand, simulation-based method can produce more accurate trimming line by iterative strategy. In this study, new fast simulation-based method to find feasible trimming line is proposed. Finite element inverse method is used to analyze the flanging process because final shape after flanging can be explicitly defined and most of strain paths are simple in flanging. In utilizing finite element inverse method, the main obstacle is the initial guess generation for general mesh. Robust initial guess generation method is developed to handle genera] mesh with very different size and undercut. The new method develops final triangular mesh incrementally onto the drawing tool surface. Also in order to remedy mesh distortion during development, energy minimization technique is utilized. Trimming line is extracted from the outer boundary after finite element inverse method simulation. This method has many advantages since trimming line can be obtained in the early design stage. The developed method is verified by shrink/stretch flange forming and successfully applied to the complex industrial applications such as door outer flanging process.
