In this paper, isotropically consolidated drained triaxial compression test device installed with bender elements is used to measure stress, stain, and shear wave velocity, from which the characteristics of shear strength and Poisson'ratio are investigated. The results show that there is a unique relationship between maximum shear modulus determined from shear wave velocity and effective vertical stress at failure, which is defined as the sum of vertical and radial stresses at failure. The correlation is very useful since it is possible to predict the shear strength and internal friction angle from shear wave velocity. In addition, Poisson's ratio is determined from measured axial and volumetric strains. It is demonstrated that the range of measured Poisson's ratio is between 0.15 and 0.6, and increases with the axial strain. The ratios at axial strains smaller than 0.2% corresponds to the range recommended in design codes, which are approximately from 0.3~0.35. However, at axial strains exceeding 1%, the measured ratios are between 0.5 and 0.6. It is therefore shown that use of ratios commonly used in practice will result in pronounced underestimation at large strains.
Laboratory model blast and in-situ rock blast tests were conducted to determine blast-induced stress wave propagation characteristics under different explosive types, different loading conditions and different mediums. Dynamic numerical approaches were conducted under the same conditions as experimental tests. Stress magnitudes at mid-point between two blast holes which were detonated simultaneously increased up to two times those of single hole detonation. The rise time of maximum stress in a decoupled charge condition was delayed two times that of a fully charged condition. Dynamic numerical analysis showed almost similar results to blast test results, which verifies the effectiveness of numerical approaches fur optimizing the tunnel blast design. Dynamic numerical analysis was executed to evaluate rock behavior and damage of the contour hole, the sloping hole adjacent to the contour hole in the road tunnel blasting pattern. The rock damage zone of the sloping hole from the numerical analysis was larger than that of the contour hole. Damage in the sloping hole can be reduced by using lower density explosive, by applying decoupled charge, or by increasing distance between the sloping hole and the contour hole.

The compacted bentonite buffer in a geological repository for high-level radioactive waste disposal is saturated due to groundwater inflow. Saturation of the bentonite buffer results in bentonite swelling and bentonite penetration into the rock discontinuities present around the disposal hole. The penetrated bentonite is exposed to groundwater flow and can be eroded out of the repository, resulting in bentonite mass loss which can affect the physical integrity of the engineered barrier system. Hence, the evaluation of buffer-rock interactions and coupled behavior due to groundwater inflow and bentonite penetration is necessary to ensure long-term disposal safety. In this study, the effects of the bentonite penetration and swelling on the physical properties of jointed rock mass were evaluated using the quasi-static resonant column test. Jointed rock specimens with bentonite penetration were manufactured using Gyeongju bentonite and hollow cylindrical granite rock discs obtained from the KAERI underground research tunnel. The effects of vertical stress and saturation were assessed using the P-wave and S-wave velocities for intact rock, jointed rock and jointed rock with bentonite penetration specimens. The joint normal and joint shear stiffnesses of each joint condition were inferred from the wave velocity results assuming an equivalent continuum. The joint normal and joint shear stiffnesses obtained from this study can be used as input factors for future numerical analysis on the performance evaluation of geological waste disposal considering rock discontinuities.

This paper describes a new dc-ac inverter system which for achieving sinusoidal ac waveform makes use of parallel loaded high frequency resonant inverter consisting of full bridge. Each one of the pair of switches in the inverter is driven to synchronous output frequency and the other is driven to PWM signal with resonant frequency proportional to magnitude of sine wave. A forced discontinuous conduction mode is used to realize the quasi-sinusoidal pulse in each switching period. Therefore the inverter generates sinusoidal modulated output voltage including carrier frequency that is resonant frequency. Carrier frequency components of modulated output voltage is filtered by low pass filter. Since current through switches is always zero at its turn-on in the proposed inverter, low stress and low switching loss is achieved. Operating characteristics of the proposed system is analyzed in per unit system using computer simulation. The output voltage of if includes low harmonics and it is almost close to sine wave. Also, the theoretical analysis is proved through the experimental test.

Recently, fluidic thrust vector control has become a core technique to control multifarious air vehicles, such as supersonic aircraft and modern rockets. Fluidic thrust vector control using the shock vector concept has many advantages for achieving great vectoring performance, such as fast vectoring response, simple structure, and low weight. In this paper, computational fluid dynamics methods are used to study a three-dimensional rectangular supersonic nozzle with a slot injector. To evaluate the reliability and stability of computational methodology, the numerical results were validated with experimental data. The pressure distributions along the upper and lower nozzle walls in the symmetry plane showed an excellent match with the test results. Several numerical simulations were performed based on the shear stress transport(SST) $k-{\omega}$ turbulence model. The effect of the momentum flux ratio was investigated thoroughly, and the performance variations have been clearly illustrated.

In this study, have researched 'a' index from three sound sources, effects on subject and finding optimal 'a' index, which can improve subject's stability, concentration and productivity. Check the health status of subjects who were selected 5 male and 5 female university students, and the period of this experiment was about two months. It were measured each subject's EEG, HRV and vibra image to analyze transition of stability, concentration, stress and heart beat. The results was measured in an environmental test room of temperature $25[^{\circ}C]$, the relative humidity 50 [%], illuminance 1,000 [lux] and air current speed 0.02[m/sec] with 'a' index of three sound sources which are a=1.106, a=1.749 and a=2.227. Results in a=1.106 compared to before exposure, relative $S{\alpha}$ wave, relative $L{\beta}$ wave and relative $M{\beta}$ wave have been revitalized, asymmetry index, stress and HRV have been decreased. Thus, to increase stability, concentration and productivity, also to decrease stress, changes in sound source of a=1.106 was found to be the most effective.

Static loadings on ship structure induced either by water pressure before service such as a tank test and ballasting or by cargo pressure during first laden voyage cause relatively much greater stress than dynamic loadings induced by wave. With these static pre-loadings, the initial residual stresses around welded joint, where fatigue strength is concerned(in most cases, where stress concentration occurs) are expected to be shaken-down in a great extent by the elasto-plastic deformation behavior of material. Therefore, it is more resonable to assess the fatigue strength of ship structure with S-N data which have taken into account the effect of shaken-down residual stresses(re-distributed stresses) on the fatigue strength. In this research work, the re-distribution of residual stresses by the tensile pre-loading is measured using an ordinary sectioning method for specimens of padding plate weldment. Fatigue tests are performed also to evaluate the fatigue strength of the both as-welded and pre-loaded specimens.
The void ratio is an important parameter for reflecting the soil behavior including physical property, compressibility, and relative density. The void ratio can be obtained by laboratory test with extracted soil samples. However, the specimen has a possibility to be easily disturbed due to the stress relief when extracting, vibration during transportation, and error in experimental process. Thus, the theoretical equations have been suggested for obtaing the void ratio based on the elastic wave velocities. The objective of this paper is to verify the accuracy of the proposed analytical solution through the error norm. The paper covers the theoretical methods of Wood, Gassmann and Foti. The elastic wave velocity is determined by the Field Velocity Probe in the southern part of Korean Peninsular. And the rest parameters are assumed based on the reference values. The Gassmann method shows the high reliability on determining the void ratio. The error norm is also analyzed as substitution of every parameter. The results show every equation has various characteristics. Thus, this paper may be widely applied for obtaining the void ratio according to the field condition.
The standard penetration test (SPT) has been widely used because of its usability, economy, and many correlations with soil properties among other factors. In SPT, hammer energy is an important factor to evaluate and calibrate N values. To measure hammer energy, an instrumented SPT rod was developed considering that stress waves transferring on rods during SPT driving are the same as stress waves transferring on piles due to pile driving. Using this idea, an instrumented SPT rod with a pile driving analyzer was applied as a pile capacity prediction tool in this study. In order to evaluate this method, SPT and dynamic cone tests with the instrumented SPT rod were conducted and also 2 pile load tests were performed on pre-bored steel pipe piles at the same test site. End bearings were predicted by CAPWAP analysis on force and velocity waves from dynamic cone penetration tests and SPT. Comparing these predicted end bearings with static pile load tests, a new prediction method of the end bearing capacity using the instrumented SPT rod was proposed.
Purpose: Recently, Neurofeedback training system that based on biofeedback of brain wave was introduced. This study was performed to identify the effects of the improvement of brain function by Neurofeedback training on elders(the 2nd or 3rd grade of long-term care insurance services). Methods: A quasi-experimental design using a nonequivalent control group, pre-post test was used. Total 11 elderly were enrolled in this study (experimental group 5, control group 6). The intervention was conducted 3 times a week for 30 minutes from January to June, 2012 (total 60 times). Chi-square test and Mann-Whitney U-test were used to analyze the data. Results: After the Neurofeedback intervention, attention quotient (AQ), anti-stress quotient (ASQ), emotion quotient (EQ) and brain quotient (BQ) of the experimental group were significantly better than those of the control group. Conclusion: The findings indicate that the Neurofeedback training program was effective in reducing fatigue by AQ, increasing the physical and mental stress resistance by ASQ, emotional balance by EQ and improving of total brain function by BQ. Therefore Neurofeedback training be used as an effective training intervention for the health of elderly in geriatric facility.
