  • This study was conducted to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean self-compassion scale using data from 312 correctional workers. To validate the self-compassion scale using the collected data, correlational analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were applied. To explore relationships between the self-compassion scale and related instruments, five instruments were used (the Korean occupational stress scale, the center for epidemiological studies depression scale, the Maslach burnout inventory scale, perceived stress scale, and the satisfaction with life scale). The results showed that the collected data better fit the 6-factor model than the 3-factor and 2-factor models. There were statistically significant relationships between the self-compassion scale and five other scales. These results suggest that the self-compassion scale is a good instrument to examine risk factors that can remain during continuous stress situations and to explore protective factors that can maintain the therapeutic relationship. The implications of this study and future research directions were also discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and the validity of the Korean Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS) in occupational therapists. The data were collected from 214 occupational therapists by using the Korean Occupational Stress Scale. The gathered data were conducted the factor analyses and validation process to ascertain the validity. The results of this study suggested that to estimate occupational stress of occupational therapist, modified version of the KOSS which was consist of eight subscales might be more an appropriate measurement scale than the original version of the KOSS which was composed of seven subscales. Eight subscales of the scale were occupational climate, organizational system, insufficient job control, lack of reward, job demand, interpersonal conflict, job ability and job insecurity, and out of these, job ability was newly added for occupational therapist. Also the results indicated that Cronbach's alpha score of this measurement tool was 0.84, and it means that internal consistency of this scale has good reliability, and the number of questions are also valid. This study has significance to suggest necessary psychometric characteristics of the occupational stress scale for job stress study in occupational therapist.

  • Finite element analysis was carried out using wafer-scale and particle-scale models to understand the mechanism of the fast removal rate(edge effect) at wafer edges in the chemical-mechanical polishing process. This is the first to report that a particle-scale model can explain the edge effect well in terms of stress distribution and magnitude. The results also revealed that the mechanism could not be fully understood by using the wafer-scale model, which has been used in many previous studies. The wafer-scale model neither gives the stress magnitude that is sufficient to remove material nor indicates the coincidence between the stress distribution and the removal rate along a wafer surface.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to develop an employee's stress response scale (ESRS) and examine its validity and reliability. Methods : The study was conducted as follows : item generation, and test of validity and reliability. Items were developed via literature review, review of instruments, and data acquired from email-survey of counselors in the field of Employee Assistance Program (EAP). In order to test validity and reliability, data were collected from 400 employees. Results : The result of exploratory factor analysis of ESRS suggested 4 factor structures (work-related, anger, somatization, depression & anxiety) with a total of 25 items. ESRS showed a relatively strong positive correlation with Hospital Anxiety-Depression scale (HAD), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and Psychological Wellbeing Index (PWI), which showed ESRS had high convergent validity. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ and test-retest reliability was .95 and .610 respectively. Conclusion : The ESRS is reliable and valid brief scale for measuring stress responses of employees. This scale would be useful in quantitatively evaluating job stress in workplace.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a scale to measure stress in infertile couples and to test its reliability and validity. Prior to item generation, a basic decision was made to conceptualize stress in infertile couples as including two dimensions and four subdimensions. The dimensions were, intrapersonal stress including cognitive and affective stress, and interpersonal stress including marital and social stress. Initially 95 items were generated from the inter-view data of 31 primary or secondary infertile women and from a literature review. These items were analyzed through the Index of Content Validity(CVI) and 69 items were selected which met 70% or more of the CVI. This preliminary Infertility Stress Scale were analyzed for reliability and construct validity. Item analysis and factor analysis were applied for construct validity. Forty items were selected through item analysis. This procedure was based on the inter-item correlation matrix, a corrected average inter-item correlation coefficient(.30~.70), a corrected item to total correlation coefficient (.03 or more) and information about the alpha estimate if this item was dropped from the scale. The result of the initial factor analysis including varimax rotation produced eight factors. Five items deleted because of factor complexity(indiscriminate factor loadings). The secondary factor analysis including varimax rotation produced seven factors that coincided with the conceptual framework posed for the scale developed. The seven factors were labeled as ‘meaning of children’,‘worthiness’,‘tenacious linking’,‘marital satisfaction’,‘sexual satisfaction’,‘familial adjustment’ and ‘social adjustment’. The alpha coefficient relating to internal consistency was .93 for reliability The results of this study suggest that the measurement derived from the Infertility Stress Scale is useful in assessing the stress of infertile couples.

  • In the nano/micro scale, material properties are dependent on the size-scale of a structure. However, conventional micro-scale tensile tests have limitations to obtain reliable values of nano-scale material properties owing to residual stress and elastic slippage in the gripping/aligning process. The indenter-driven nano-scale tensile test provides prominent advantages simple testing device, high-quality nano-scale metallic specimen with negligible residual stress. In this paper, two-types of specimens (a specimen with multi-testing parts and a specimen with a single-testing part) are discussed. Focused ion beam (FIB) is employed to fabricate a nano-scale specimen from a thin nickel film. Using the specimen with a single-testing part, we obtained a nano-scale stress-strain curve of electroplated nickel film.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between perceived stress. self respect & stress response of high school students to provide the basic data for nursing intervention programs in order to manage stress in students. The subject of this study was 279 students (male; 179. female; 100) in high school. Seoul. Korea. during the period from July. 2000. The instruments for this study was a stress management scale developed by Park Young Ae(l996), a self respect scale by Coopersmith (1967) and a physical. emotional response scale to stress by Ro, Jae Hak(1991). The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test. Pearson correlation coefficient. The results of analysis were as follows: 1) Total perceived stress between males & females didn't show a significant difference but subgroups of stress, 'parent' & 'friend' showed significant differences. Male students were experienced in 'parent' stress than females and female students were more experienced in 'friend' stress than males. 2) A significant negative correlation was revealed between perceived stress & self respect. 3) A significant positive correlation was revealed between self respect & stress response. The result of this study lead us to the suggestion that for high school students. the development of stress management methods for improving self respect should be expanded.
