  • Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) cracking susceptibility in the weld heat-affected zone (HAZ) of reduced activation ferritic-martensitic (RAFM) steels was evaluated through stress-rupture tests. 9Cr-1W based alloys including different C, Ta and Ti content were prepared. The coarse grained heat-affected zone (CGHAZ) samples were simulated with welding condition of 30 kJ/cm heat input. CGHAZ samples consisted of martensite matrix. Stress rupture experiments were carried out using a Gleeble simulator at temperatures of $650-750^{\circ}C$ and at stress levels of 125-550 MPa, corresponding to PWHT condition. The results revealed that PWHT cracking resistance was improved by Ti addition, i.e., Ti contributed to the formation of fine and stable MX precipitates and suppression of coarse M23C6 carbides, resulting in improvement of stress rupture ductility. Meanwhile, rupture strength increased with increasing solute C content.

  • Titanium alloy has widely been used as material for automotive parts because it has high specific strength. It is also light and harmless to human body. But, we have little design data about the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, creep tests under four constant stress conditions have been conducted with low different temperature conditions. A series of creep tests had been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of titanium products and we have gotten the fallowing results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increased. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decrease as the stresses became bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller parameter on this alloy was estimated as about 7.5. And for the last, the fractographs at the creep rupture showed the ductile fracture due to the intergranullar rupture.

  • Mechanical properties, including Young's modulus, residual stress and rupture strength, of a thermally evaporated gold film have been measured form a blister test. In a theoretical study, the priniple of minimum potential energy and that of virtual work have been applied to the pressurized circular membrane problem, and load-deflection relations have been derived for typical membrane deflection mode of spheroidal shape. In an experimental study, circular gold membranes of 4800 A-thickness and 3.5mm diameter were fabricated by the silicon electropolishing technique. Mecahnical properties of the thin gold films were deduced from the load-deflection curves obtained by the blister test, Young's moduli, obtianed from blister test, have been in the range of 45-70 GPa, while those of bulk gold have been in the range of 78-80 GPa. Residual stresses in the evaporated gold films have been measured as 28-110MPa in tension, The rupture strength of the gold film has turned out to be almost equal to that of dental gold alloy (310-380MPa). It has been demonstrated that the present specimen fabrication method and blister test apparatus have been effective for simultaneous measurement of Young's modulus, residual stress and repture strength of thin solid films. Especially, the electropolishing technique employed here has provided a simple and practical way to fabricate thin membranes in a circular or an arbitrary shape, which could not be obtained by the conventional anisotropic silicon mecromachining technique.

  • This paper describes the high temperature creep characteristics for virgin material of 9Cr1MoVNb steel using small punch creep(SP-Creep) test technique which is developing recently. In addition, the several results of SP-Creep test are compared with that of 2.25Cr- 1Mo steel which is widely used as boiler materials and that of conventional uniaxial creep test. The obtained SP-Creep curves show the creep behaviors of three regimes like that obtained from conventional uniaxial creep test, and SP-Creep properties are definitely depended on applied load and test temperature. The correlation of SP-Creep rate and creep rupture life with applied load has been determined like the correlation between creep rate/rupture life and stress in uniaxial creep test, and also is satisfied with Power law. The creep rupture times of newly 9Cr1MoVNb steel are higher than those of 2.25Cr1Mo steel at the same creep temperature and applied loading condition, and the decrease extent of creep rupture life with loads is very lower compared with 2.25Cr1Mo steel.

  • To make practical applications of Al-Zn-Mg ternary aluminum alloy effectively in various field, a series of static creep tests under the 16 temperature-stress combination conditions had been performed. The creep tester with constant stress loading was designed and made by the authors and used in this study. The higher the creep temperature rose, the less the stress exponents became. The bigger the applied stresses became, the less values the creep strain activation energy showed. The life prediction constant of Larson-Miller parameter was calculated as about 2.3. In the fractography, the ductile fracture with dimples by intergranular breakage was primarily observed. We can make practical use of these test data in the design, the life prediction and the prevention of the accidents of the thermal facilities, etc.

  • Due to the need of increasing thermal efficiency, supercritical pressure and temperature have been utilized in power plants. It is well known that 9Cr1Mo steel is suitable fer use in power plants operating at supercritical conditions. Therefore, to ensure the safety and the soundness of the power plant, creep characterization of the steel is important. In this study, the creep characterization of the gCr1Mo steel using small punch creep(SP-Creep) test has been described. The applied load and the central displacement of the specimen in SP-Creep test have been converted to bearing stress and strain of uc, respectively. The converted SP-Creep curves clearly showed the typical three-stage behavior of creep. The steady-state creep rate and the rupture time of the steel logarithmically changed with the bearing stress and satisfied the Power law relationship. Furthermore, the Larson-Miller parameter of the SP-Creep test agreed with that of the tensile creep test. From the comparison with low Cr-Mo steels, the creep characteristics of 9Cr1Mo steel proved to be superior. Thus, it can be confirmed that the 9Cr1Mo steel is suitable for supercritical power plant.

  • This study determined the effects of soybean oil$2\%$) and chitosan($1\%$) on the quality characteristics of Omija Jelly made of various starches (mungbean starch, cowpea starch and corn starch). RVA(Rapid Visco Analyzer) viscosity was measured for starches suspended in Omija aextract with $2\%$ soybean oil and $1\%$ chitosan. The color value, syneresis, texture(rupture test and TPA test) and sensory properties of the samples were measured. Gelatinization of cowpea starch was expedited by adding soybean oil and chitosan. Otherwise, gelatinization of mungbean starch and com starch was retarded by adding chitosan. The lightness(L) and the syneresis of Omija Jelly with soybean oil and chitosan were decreased, indicating the increased transparency and stability of Omija Jelly. Rupture stress and rupture energy of Omija Jelly were decreased by adding soybean oil. Rupture stress was increased and rupture energy was decreased by adding chitosan. The addition of soybean oil improved texture of Omija Jelly, indicating that the springiness, cohesiveness and chewiness of Omija Jelly were increased and adhesiveness was decreased. By adding chitosan, the springiness and hardness of Omija Jelly were increased and the cohesiveness and adhesiveness were decreased. The overall acceptability of Omija Jelly made of $6%$ or $7\%$ cowpea starch and com starch was increased by adding soybean oil and chitosan, but the quality characteristics of Omija Jelly made of mungbean starch were not influenced by additives such as soybean oil and chitosan.

  • The rupture disk corrosion test (RDCT) method was recently developed to evaluate stress corrosion cracking (SCC) and was found to have great potential for the real-time detection of SCC initiation in a high temperature and pressure environment, simulating the primary water coolant of pressurized water reactors. However, it is difficult to directly measure the stress applied to a disk specimen, which is an essential factor in SCC initiation. In this work, finite element analysis (FEA) was performed using ABAQUSTM to calculate the stress and deformation of a disk specimen. To determine the best mesh design for a thin disk specimen, hexahedron, hex-dominated, and tetrahedron models were used in FEA. All models revealed similar dome-shaped deformation behavior of the disk specimen. However, there was a considerable difference in stress distribution in the disk specimens. In the hex-dominated model, the applied stress was calculated to be the maximum at the dome center, whereas the stress was calculated to be the maximum at the dome edge in the hexahedron and tetrahedron models. From a comparison of the FEA results with deformation behavior and SCC location on the disk specimen after RDCT, the most proper FE model was found to be the tetrahedron model.

  • Influences of hold time and stress ratio on cyclic creep properties of Grade 91 steel were systemically investigated using a wide range of cyclic creep tests, which were performed with hold times (HTs) of 1 minute, 3 minutes, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 20 minutes, and 30 minutes and stress ratios (R) of 0.5, 0.8, 0.85, 0.90, and 0.95 under tension loading cycles at $600^{\circ}C$. Under the influence of HT, the rupture time increased to HT = 5 minutes at R = 0.90 and R = 0.95, but there was no influence at R = 0.50, 0.80, and 0.85. The creep rate was constant regardless of an increase in the HT, except for the case of HT = 5 minutes at R = 0.90 and R = 0.95. Under the influence of stress ratio, the rupture time increased with an increase in the stress ratio, but the creep rate decreased. The cyclic creep led to a reduction in the rupture time and an acceleration in the creep rate compared with the case of monotonic creep. Cyclic creep was found to depend dominantly on the stress ratio rather than on the HT. Fracture surfaces displayed transgranular fractures resulting from microvoid coalescence, and the amount of microvoids increased with an increase in the stress ratio. Enhanced coarsening of the precipitates in the cyclic creep test specimens was found under all conditions.
