  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of appearance stress, job-seeking stress, and college life stress on eating attitude in nursing students. Methods: Data were collected in September and October of 2017. A total of 153 fourth-year nursing students were included in the analysis. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SAS 9.2. Results: The mean score for eating attitude was 2.71±0.56. From the univariate analysis, appearance, job-seeking, and college life stress scores were all significantly related to eating attitude (r=.26, .35, .30 respectively, and p for all <.001). After controlling for covariates, job-seeking stress and college life stress were significantly related to eating attitude (β=.20 and 0.17 respectively, and p=.005 and .024 respectively). Among the covariates, experience of diet and physical anxiety were significantly associated with eating behavior (β=.33 and .24 respectively, and p<.001 and .008 respectively). Conclusion: Job-seeking stress had the biggest influence on eating attitude, followed by college life stress. Therefore, in order to promote healthy eating attitudes in fourth-year nursing students, preventive measures focusing on decreasing job-seeking stress should be considered as a top priority.

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the mediating effects of health promoting lifestyle in the relationship between life stress and adaptation to college life of health department college students. The data was collected for 10 days form sept. 3 to 14, 2012. Among a total of 351 cases of questionaries, only 342 cases were used. To data were analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and a hierarchical multiple regression analysis as suggested by Baron and Kenny(1986) using PASW statistics 18.0. From the analyses, there was a negative relationship between life stress and adaptation to college life but a positive relationship between health promoting lifestyle and adaptation to college life. There was a partial mediating effect of health promoting lifestyle between life stress and adaptation to college life. The results indicate a need to develop programs that effectively promote the health promoting lifestyle of health department college students to decrease life stress and maximize adaptation to college life.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the correlation between stress and adjustment to college life among nursing students. Methods: The sample consisted of 183 university students in C & S cities. Self-report questionnaires were used to measure the variables. In data analysis, SPSSWIN 23.0 program was utilized for descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and regression analysis. Results: The mean scores of stress and adjustment to college life were 2.55 and 3.24. Stress was significantly different according to grade (F=7.30, p<.001), economic state (F=14.39, p<.001), perceived health state (F=6.66, p<.001). In regression analysis, stress for college life, perceived health state, and college life satisfaction were significant predictors of adjustment to college life explaining 68%. Conclusion: This study suggests that perceived health state was a significant factor on adjustment to college life among nursing students. Therefore, the strategies of nursing intervention which improve perceived health state must be developed for college students.

Method : This study was conducted on 315 nursing college students in B City between April 1stand30th, 2017. The collected data were processed using SPSS 22.0 and were analyzed using means, standard deviations, t-tests, an ANOVA, Scheffe's test, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results : Nursing college students showed means of $2.36{\pm}0.54$ points in life stress, $1.03{\pm}0.41$ points in sleep quality, and $2.95{\pm}0.57$ points in mental health. The analysis of correlations between life stress, sleep quality, and mental health in nursing college students showed a statistically significant positive correlation between life stress and sleep quality (r = .432, p < .001). In addition, statistically significant negative correlations were found between life stress and mental health (r = -.589, p < .001) as well as between mental health and sleep quality (r = -.301, p < .001). Discussion : Replication studies with larger numbers of subjects are required. Based on the present study, systematic studies on factors affecting life stress, sleep quality, and mental health are also necessary. Moreover, programs should be developed to reduce life stress as well as improve sleep quality and mental health.

  • This study was performed to investigate stress levels, dietary behaviors and food choices, and their correlations in college students. General characteristic stress scores, using a stress test, and the dietary behaviors and food choices of subjects under stress were measured in 358 subjects (185 males and 173 female). The mean total stress scores of the male and female students were $67.91{\pm}44.85$ and $85.62{\pm}48.91$, respectively. Female students were more stressed than males in relation to family, value, future, friends, and study related factors. There were gender differences in the food intake and frequency of eating sweet things when under stress. Stress increased the food intake and frequency of eating sweet things in female students. Especially, stress factors, such as value, economic, future, friends and study problems increased the food intake of female students. Female students preferred sweet tasting items; whereas, male students preferred hot tasting items when under stress. These results show the effect of life stresses on the dietary behaviors and food choices of college students. Stress not only increased energy consumption in certain individuals, but also changed their food choices. Therefore, education with regard to nutrition is necessary if college students are to practice good eating habits for the correct management of life stresses.
