This investigation is the result of a structural analysis by the finite element method and static loading test for the optimal structural design of an electric railway vehicle made of stainless 301L materials. We analyzed the stress and displacement of the existing electric car-body structure for predicting the position of concentrated stress, the flow of stress, rigidity to be occurred in the car-body structure when it is subjected to the vertical load. It was exposed that the side sills and window corners around the bolsters are the weak parts of the electric car-body structure because the bolsters of the electric car-body structure were subjected to the vertical load and dynamic load to be occurred during running. The flow of stress and the cause of stress concentration in the weak zone were studied in order to prevent the concentration of stress and buckling. The rearrangement of the structure and the selection of the beam elements were also carried out for optimum design of the structure.

PVDF film sensor was applied to measure the stress concentration for monitoring the structural integrity. The strain calibration of this film sensor was performed by the bending test of aluminum beam. The PVDF sensor and the electrical strain gage were bonded on the beam. When the beam was loaded, the output of electrical strain gage was compared with the output of the PVDF sensor. The waveform of PVDF sensor output was shown as the same form of the output of electrical strain gage. The gain was determined as 1.7 by comparing these two signals to determine the exact value of the strain. In order to experiment the stress concentration, the stress field was analyzed by finite element analysis. The tensile test of notched steel specimens was conducted to develop the measurement technique of stress concentration. The output voltage ratio between the PVDF sensor near the notch and the PVDF sensor far from the notch could give the information about the load bearing capacity of steel specimen.
Objectives The purpose of this study is to look for pathological mechanism of disease development caused by Taedok, by studying whether stress and diet in pregnant ICR mice affect the intestinal flora and IgA (Immunoglobulin A) concentration. Methods The mice were divided into 4 groups (n=5 per group) based on the concept of Taedok: the control group (G1), stress group (G2), capsaicin diet group (G3), high fat diet group (G4). We collected and analyzed intestinal flora from maternal feces and cecal flora from neonatal mice by group. Then, IgA concentration in the maternal feces and sIgA (secretory Immunoglobulin A) concentration in the cecal contents of newborn mice were analyzed. In addition, serum corticosterone was analyzed before and after stress application. Results Changes in maternal intestinal flora and neonatal mice cecal flora by stress and diet were observed. There were no significant changes in the IgA concentration in maternal feces and the sIgA concentration in the cecal contents of neonatal mice. No significant changes compared to the control group were observed between groups before and after applying stress. However, when comparing within one subject, a significant increase was confirmed after stress application in the stress group (G2). Conclusions Based on the results, we observed stress and diet in pregnant mice affect the intestinal flora of maternal and neonatal. We were able to interpret the pathological mechanism of Taedok based on the principle of interaction between mother and newborn intestinal flora.
PURPOSE. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of various cement types on the stress distribution in monolithic zirconia crowns under maximum bite force using the finite element analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The models of the prepared #46 crown (deep chamfer margin) were scanned and solid models composed of the monolithic zirconia crown, cement layer, and prepared tooth were produced using the computer-aided design technology and were subsequently translated into 3-dimensional finite element models. Four models were prepared according to different cement types (zinc phosphate, polycarboxylate, glass ionomer, and resin). A load of 700 N was applied vertically on the crowns (8 loading points). Maximum principal stress was determined. RESULTS. Zinc phosphate cement had a greater stress concentration in the cement layer, while polycarboxylate cement had a greater stress concentration on the distal surface of the monolithic zirconia crown and abutment tooth. Resin cement and glass ionomer cement showed similar patterns, but resin cement showed a lower stress distribution on the lingual and mesial surface of the cement layer. CONCLUSION. The test results indicate that the use of different luting agents that have various elastic moduli has an impact on the stress distribution of the monolithic zirconia crowns, cement layers, and abutment tooth. Resin cement is recommended for the luting agent of the monolithic zirconia crowns.

To assess the stress distribution of implant prosthesis induced by intentional misfit using photoelastic model. Stress was measured at the surrounding bone after applying vertical load to the implant. Three implants were placed in each of three photoelastic resin blocks. No misfits were used for the control group, while for the experimental group $100{\mu}m$ misfit after cutting the crown was used. The photoelastic stress analysis was performed. In control group, stress concentration was not shown when the load was not applied, whereas stress concentration was shown only in the loaded part even when load was applied and the stress was distributed in anterior-posterior direction when applying a load in the middle. When intentional misfits were given, stress around the fixture was incurred when tightening the screw even if load was not applied. If the load was applied, stress was concentrated around the implants including areas where the load was applied. In particular, the prosthesis made of UCLA showed more stress concentration as compared with a conical abutment. In the UCLA case, concentration was shown from the apex following through the axis to the cervical area. Prosthesis with misfit makes the stress concentrated though the load was not applied and it induces even more severe stress concentration when the load was applied. This founding demonstrates the importance of the correct prosthesis production.

The 4-point bending tests have been performed In order to estimate the effect of TIG-dressing on fatigue strength and fatigue characteristics quantitatively for non load-carrying fillet welded joints subjected to pure bending. As a result of fatigue tests, fatigue strengths of as-welded specimens have satisfied the grade of fatigue strength prescribed in specifications of korea, AASHTO and JSSC. Fatigue strength at 2 million cycles of TIG-dressing specimens have increased compared with as-welded specimens. As the result of beachmark tests, fatigue cracks occurred at several points, where the radius of curvature and flank angle in the weld bead toes were low, and grew as semi-elliptical cracks, then approached to fracture. As a result of finite element analysis, stress concentration factor in weld bead toes has closely related to the flank angle and radius of curvature, and between these, the radius of curvature has more largely affected in stress concentration factor than flank angle. As a result of fracture mechanics approaches, the crack correction factor of test specimens has largely affected on stress gradient correction factor in case a/t is below 0.4. From the relations between stress intensity factor range estimated from FEM analysis and fatigue crack growth rate, fatigue life has been correctly calculated.

Fatigue design rules for welds in the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessels Code are based on the use of Fatigue Strength Reduction Factors(FSRF) against a code specified fatigue design curve generated from smooth base metal specimens without the presence of welds. Similarly, stress intensification factors that are used in the ASME B3l.1 Piping Code are based on component S-N curves with a reference fatigue strength based on straight pipe girth welds. But the determination of either the FSRF or stress intensification factor requires extensive fatigue testing to take into account the stress concentration effects associated with various types of component geometry, weld configuration and loading conditions. As the fatigue behavior of welded joints is being better understood, it has been generally accepted that the difference in fatigue lives from one type of weld to another is dominated by the difference in stress concentration. However, general finite element procedures are currently not available for effective determination of such stress concentration effects. In this paper, a mesh-insensitive structural stress method is used to re-evaluate the S-N test data, and then more effective method is proposed for pressure vessel and piping fatigue design.

Significant improvements in bond strength between new and existing concrete can be achieved through the modification of the new concrete by latex modification. But, no test method has been adopted as a standard to measure the bond strength between the concrete used to repair and the substrate being repaired. The performance of old and the new concrete construction depends upon bond strength between old and the new concrete. Current adhesion strength measurement method ignores the effect of stress concentration by shape of specimens. Therefore, this research calculates stress concentration coefficient using finite element analysis and direction tensile strength test (pull-off test). The result shows that the required core depth is 2.5cm. Elastic modulus and overlay thickness do not influence in stress concentration.
