In this study, Fatigue behavior of laser weldment in heterogeneous materials was investigated. Fatigue strength test and fatigue crack propagation test were performed for specimens with laser weldment in heterogeneous materials, and hardness test was performed. From the fatigue strength test. it was observed that the difference of strength between heterogeneous materials had eflect on crack initiation position and fatigue limit. From the fatigue crack propagation test. it was observed that fatigue behavior of laser weldment in heterogeneous materials is different from that in same materials. The difference of strength between heterogeneous materials and laser weldment had effect on fatigue crack propagation rate.
Pullout tests of single headed bars using plain concrete blocks indicate that the embedment depth of $10d_b$ is in general required for the headed bars to develop pullout strength equivalent to 125% of bar yield strength. In this experimental study, test results of multiple headed bars installed in reinforced concrete column sections are presented. Test variables included embedment depth, column main reinforcement ratio, and spacing of column ties. 2D29 bars were pulled out at one time from normal strength concrete. Test results indicated that the embedment depths, column tie spacings, and column main reinforcement ratios all influenced the pullout strengths of the headed bars. When the embedment depth was not sufficient, narrow tie spacings especially resulted in increased pullout strengths of the headed bars. Test results also indicated that the embedment depth of 15㏈ was sufficient for the closely spaced two headed bars (head-to-head spacing =$6d_b$) to develop pullout strength equivalent to 125% of the bar yield strength.
For the prediction of concrete-steel bond ability in reinforced concrete, many countries establish specifications for the pullout test. But these methods hardly to consider many parameters such as strength, shape, diameter and location of steel, concrete restrict condition by loading plate, strength of concrete and cover depth etc, and it is difficult to solve concentration and disturbance of stress. The purpose of this study is to propose a New Ring Test method which can be rational quantity evaluations of bond splitting mechanism. For this purpose, pullout test was carried out to assess the effect of several variables on bond splitting properties between reinforcing bar and concrete. Key variables are concrete compressive strength, concrete cover, bar diameter and rib spacing. Failure mode was examined and maximum bond stress-slip relationships were presented to show the effect of above variables. As the result, it appropriately expressed general characteristics of bond splitting mechanism, and it proved capability for standard test method.
This study concerns the new estimated strength equation of concrete by penetration test. There are not only few estimate strength equations of concrete, but also many problems to apply them because of time, cost, easiness, structural damage, reliability and so on. In this study, there performed a series of penetration test with in 730days' concrete structures and proposed equations as follows; $$Linear\;:\;f_{ck}=2.95d-80.0(r^2= 69.8\%)$$$$Quadratic\;:\;f_{ck}=0.204d^2-12.15d+193.2(r^2=83.6\%)$$ here, fck : Estimated compressive strength of concrete by MPa d: exposed probe length by mm.
The biaxial fracture behavior of alumina ceramics was studied using ball-on-3-ball test. The polished surfaces of alumina specimens were indented at 0mm, 1mm, 2mm, 3mm apart from the center of the specimen along path A, passing between the two supporting balls from the center of the specimen, and along path B, passing above the three supporting balls from the center of the specimen. The fracture strength of the indented specimens was measured using the ball-on-3-ball test, a kind of biaxial strength test. The fracture strength increased with increasing the distance from the center to indented position. The fracture strength of the specimen indented along path B was higher than that of the specimens indented along path A. It was presented that the fracture caused by tangential stress rather than radial stress when the indented positions are 1mm and 2mm from the center of the specimen. This phenomenon was in good agreement with FEM analysis.
This study investigated the effect of test zone selection for evaluating bending strength of visually graded lumber. This will contribute to the understanding of two different methods under different standards. In method I, the major defect was randomly placed in the test specimen. In method II, the major defect was randomly placed in the maximum moment zone (MMZ). The results showed that the method II is more accurate for reflecting the effect of defects governing the grade of lumber. Unless the maximum strength-reducing defect (MSRD) is placed in MMZ, the evaluated value would be higher than that of MSRD. For evaluating the modulus of rupture (MOR) of visually graded lumber in test set-up of Method I, the Eq. (5) needs to be considered.
Single fiber fragmentation technique was used to evaluate the change of interfacial properties by degradation of fiber tensile strength in the fiber reinforced composites. The influences of fiber tensile strength on the interfacial properties have been evaluated by the fragmentation specimens(weak fiber samples) of glass fiber/epoxy resin that was made using the pre-degraded glass fiber in distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ for specified periods. The effects of the immersion time on the interfacial properties in the distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ also have been evaluated by the fragmentation specimens(original fiber samples) of glass fiber/epoxy resin that was made using the received glass fiber. As the result, the tensile strength of glass fiber was decreased with the increasing of the treatment time in the distilled water at $80^{circ}C$ and the interfacial shear strength was independent of the change of the glass fiber strength in the single fiber fragmentation test. But in the durability test using the single fiber fragmentation specimen, interfacial shear strength decreased with the increasing of the immersion time in distilled water ar $80^{circ}C$. And it turned out that the evaluating of interfacial shear strength using original fiber tensile strength was valuable in the durability test for the water environment by the single fiber fragmentation technique.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate influence of sacroiliac joint mobilization on lower extremity muscle strength. Methods : The subjects were consisted of thirty patients who had Leg length inequality(LLI) of more than 10mm(16 females. 14 males) from 21 to 41 years of age(mean aged 24.87). All subjects randomly assigned to sacroiliac joint mobilization group(n=15), control group(n=15). sacroiliac joint mobilization group received sacroiliac joint mobilization about 10 minutes for 3 times per week during 4 weeks period. Control group not received intervention during 4 weeks period. The tape measure method(TMM) was used to measure functional Leg length inequality. Biodex System 3 Pro was used to measure strength of Knee extension & flexion. All measurements of each subjects were measured at pre-test, 2weeks post-test and 4weeks post-test. Results : 1. The LLI of sacroiliac joint mobilization group was significantly reduced according to within treatment period(p<.05), most significantly reduced between pre-test and post-test(p<.05). sacroiliac joint mobilization group significantly more reduced than control group(p<.05). 2. The knee extension strength of sacroiliac joint mobilization group was significantly increased according to within treatment period(p<.05), most significantly increased between pre-test and post-test(p<.05). sacroiliac joint mobilization group significantly more increased than control group(p<.05). 3. The knee flexion strength of sacroiliac joint mobilization group was significantly increased according to within treatment period(p<.05), most significantly increased between pre-test and post-test(p<.05). sacroiliac joint mobilization group significantly more increased than control group(p<.05). Conclusion : sacroiliac joint mobilization can reduce LLI and increased lower extremity muscle strength.
The effects of thickness and surface grinding condition on the fracture strength of Si wafer with a thickness under $100{\mu}m$ were investigated. Fracture strength was measured by ball breaker test for about 330 dies (size: $4mm{\times}4mm$) per each wafer. For statistical analysis of the fracture strength, scale factor was determined from Weibull plot. Ball breaker fracture strength was observed to increase with decreasing thickness of silicon die. For the silicon dies of different surface conditions, ball breaker fracture strength was high in the order of polished, ground (#4800), and ground (#320 grit) specimen. Probabilistic fracture strength (i.e., scale factor) increased with decreasing surface roughness of silicon die.
The compressive strength of concrete is commonly used criterion in producing concrete. However, the tests on the compressive strength are complicated and time-consuming. More importantly, it is too late to make improvement even if the test result does not satisfy the required strength, since the test is usually performed at the 28th day after the placement of concrete at the construction site. Therefore, accurate and realistic strength estimation before the placement of concrete is being highly required. In this study, the estimation of the compressive strength of concrete was performed by probabilistic neural network (PNN) on the basis of concrete mix proportions. The estimation performance of PNN was improved by considering the correlation between input data and targeted output value. Adaptive probabilistic neural network (APNN) was proposed to automatically calculate the smoothing parameter in the conventional PNN by using the scheme of dynamic decay adjustment algorithm. The conventional PNN and APNN were applied to predict the compressive strength of concrete using actual test data of a concrete company. APNN showed better results than the conventional PNN in predicting the compressive strength of concrete.
