  • This paper experimentally examined the recycling of combustion by-products emitted from a combined heat and power plant using lignocellulosic biomass fuel. Physical and chemical analyzes were performed on Bio-SRF and three types of wood pellet combustion by-product samples (fly-ash, FA). As a result of the experiment, the compressive strength of mortar substituted with 5, 10, and 20% of FA compared to the cement weight was found to be excellent, and its recyclability was confirmed as a substitute for existing admixtures.

친환경 재료를 사용한 흑색 지르코니아 세라믹스 제조 (Manufacture of Black Color Zirconia Ceramics Used by Eco-Friendly Materials)

  • The goal of this investigation was to produce a zirconia-family black ceramics that has enhanced functionality and reliability. Color zirconia ceramics have been produced by adding pigments. Pigments cause structural defects within zirconia and result in a drop in physical properties. Using environmentally friendly rice husk, we produced a black zirconia that is free of structural defects. In optimal firing conditions for black zirconia the calcining temperatures of the molding product are changed from $400^{\circ}C$ to $1200^{\circ}C$, and the firing temperatures are changed from $1400^{\circ}C$ to $1600^{\circ}C$. Color of testing the specimens was analyzed using Ultraviolet (UV) spectroscopy. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), EDAX (EDX), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analyses were carried out in order to examine impregnation properties and crystal phases. Universial Test Machine (UTM) was used to measure the flexual strength as well as the compressive strength. From experimental results, it was found that in optimal firing conditions the sample was calcined from $1000^{\circ}C$ to $1500^{\circ}C$. Commission internationalde I'Edairage (CIE) values of manufactured black zirconia color were $L^*$ = 29.73, $a^*$ = 0.23, $b^*$ = -2.68. The bending strength was 918 MPa and the compressive strength was 2676 MPa. These strength values are similar to typical strength values of zirconia, which confirms that carbon impregnation did not influence physical properties.

소성유동선도를 강조한 소성가공 시뮬레이션과 그 적용 사례 (Metal Forming Simulation with Emphasis on Metal Flow Lines and its Applications)

  • In this paper, the flow lines as a function of product design as well as the forging process design are explored using typical application examples. The prediction of flow lines using metal forming simulation technology is introduced along with their characterization. Experimental studies have shown that the metal flow lines have a strong influence on the structural rigidity of the final product. In this study we present several typical applications. One example is the case of severely cut metal flow lines during machining, especially in the region where periodic contacting forces are applied. Another example is the case of abnormal distortion of flow lines which can cause too much elongation or hot shortness due to viscous heating in the region of distortion. A third example is the case of a macrosegregation region which needs to be controlled so it is not adjacent to the region where the force is applied in the use of the final component. An example of weight reduction for an automobile component with improved flow lines is also introduced. These typical applications can provide process engineers with the insight in designing automobile or mechanical components as well as in designing the manufacturing methods to produce various parts.

  • 1) 강소성 유한 요소법 프로그램 RDHPSC는 2단헤딩 가공에 있어서의 신뢰 할 수 있는 해석수단이다. 2) RDHPSC에 의한 2단헤딩의 해석은 2단헤딩가공에서의 최적 가공 조건의 결정에 유용한 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 3) 2단헤딩 가공중의 금속흐름을 수치해석에서의 격자 변형에 의해 관찰될 수 있다. 4) 2단헤딩 가공중의 표면 결함의 발생가능성은 수치해석 결과에서 원수방향응력과 계수 D를 관찰함으로서 탐색되어질 수 있다. 5) 2단헤딩가공중에 있어서의 내부결함 발생가능성은 수치해석의 격차 변형을 통하여 알 수 있다. 6) 마무리 가공금형 수명에 대한 최적가공조건은 수치해석에서의 접촉압력을 조사하여 얻을 수 있다.(이 논문의 결론부분임)

전자제품 쿨링 유닛용 초소형 타입 복합재 압력용기 개발 (Development of Subminiature Type 3 Composite Pressure Vessel for Cooling Unit in Electric Appliances)

  • In this study, we have developed a composite pressure vessel that is compact and can store refrigerant at high pressure to increase the refrigerant volume. The composite pressure vessel is made of aluminum-based duralumin, which has high rigidity and excellent elongation in the inner liner, considering the characteristics of products in the aerospace and defense industry, where the safety of the applied product is considered as a priority. High strength carbon fiber was applied to the outside. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed product, burst test and cycling test were carried out. In burst test, an excellent safety margin equivalent to 2.7 times the operating pressure was obtained. In cycling test, a stable failure mode in which 'pre-burst leak' occurs is proved and the soundness of the product is proved.

Physical and Mechanical Properties of Three-layer Particleboards Bonded With UF and UMF Adhesives

  • A low dimensional stability and poor bending strength properties were main problems in particleboard manufacturing. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of mixed wood species and urea-formaldehyde (UF) or urea-melamine-formaldehyde (UMF) resins on the physical and mechanical properties of three-layer particleboards. The ratio of face/core/back layer was 1 : 2 : 1. The resin content of 12% for both UF resins and UMF resins (UF/MF = 70/30% w/w) was used. The results of this study showed that the utilization of S.mahagony shaving using both UF and UMF resins caused a decrease in the thickness swelling and water absorption of the boards. Thickness swellings of particleboard made of Sengon/Sengon/Sengon (SSS), Mahogany/Mahogany/Mahogany (MMM), Sengon/Mahogany/Sengon (SMS), and Mahogany/Sengon/Mahogany (MSM) were in the range of 23%, 12~16%, 14~16%, and 13~21%, respectively. The board bonded with UMF resin demonstrated better dimensional stability than that bonded with UF resin alone. Modulus of elasticity (MOE) and modulus of rupture (MOR) of particleboards made of S. mahagony shaving in the surface layer in both MMM and MSM boards were better than those of the SSS and SMS. MOE of MMM and MSM board was in the ranges of 24,000 to $26,000kg.cm^{-2}$ and 18,000 to $21,000kg.cm^{-2}$ respectively. Meanwhile, the MOR of board was in the ranges of 200 to $240kg.cm^{-2}$ and 190 to $228kg.cm^{-2}$, respectively.

  • Idler of excavator are large product with diameter 500 - 600 mm and parts of a power transmit device. The object of the paper is developed large products by hot closed-die forging. The forging process which is proposed from numerical analysis and various tests is developed a large products with good quality. To estimate the design process parameters such as working load, temperature and flash thickness so on, numerical analysis are used by DEFORM 2D. To obtain a flow stress data and optimal forging temperature is carried out hot compression and tensile test at a various temperature range. Developed product is tested mechanical properties of elongation, hardness and tensile strength so on. Test results are presented excellent mechanical properties.

고밀도 팽창흑연 성형품의 압축 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study of Mechanical Properties in Compression on High density Graphite Products with Expanded Graphite)

  • Graphite is well known as a material which has high-temperature thermostable property, chemical resistance against acid and alkaline state also is very easy to environment. Nowadays the need of graphite product is increasing rapidly because of its advantages. In this paper, the mechanical property of newly developed graphite products with high density is investigated with especially in compression test. I introduced the graphite specimens for this study by NGF method with two expandable graphite and compared to the specimens of commercial graphite sheet from expanded graphite which made by the rolling process. I investigated the characteristics of these materials by measuring specific weight, hardness, compressive strength and investigating structures by SEM, It is verified that the graphite products with NGF method has superior properties for using gasket materials than that of commercial graphite sheet.

  • In a reinforced concrete structure, coupler construction is easier to install than jointing or welding reinforcing bars, so it is possible to work by one person. When constructing a reinforcing bar coupler, the coupler construction method must be different for each member that receives a large tensile force or a member that receives a small tensile strength. Various coupler products are used in the global construction market, and the quality, performance, and cost of reinforcing bar joints vary from product to product. This study compares and analyzes the quality and cost of representative rebar couplers according to the requirements using the quality house of QFD-HOQ. The case study presents a quality and cost improvements strategy through QFD-HOQ analysis of rebar couplers.

  • Purpose: In this paper we present a case study of developing fast curing adhesives for insulation material of LNG carriers using an extreme vertices design with four mixture components. Three material properties are considered - shear strength, viscosity, and tensile strength. In the optimization experiment, we used hardness instead of tensile strength due to shortage of specimens. Methods: We employ four-factor extreme vertices design with 19 runs and desirability function approach for simultaneously optimizing three responses. After selecting optimal condition of the mixture components, we do confirmation experiments to verify the reproducibility of the optimal condition under manufacturing circumstance. Results: Simultaneous optimal condition for the three responses, that is, shear strength, viscosity, and harness is obtained. At the optimal condition, confirmation experiments are executed in manufacturing circumstance. The variation for the shear strength is not satisfactory, which is due to the variation of the humidity. Conclusion: At the optimal condition three material properties are satisfactory. To reduce the variability for the shear strength, robust design is needed.
