A Study on Weight Reduction of Front Side Member with Application of High Strength Steel (고강도 강판 적용에 의한 차체 프런트 사이드 멤버의 경량화에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is concerned with the weight reduction of front side member of a vehicle considering the application of high strength steel sheet. The influence of steel sheet grade and thickness on the energy absorption, impact load and deformed shape of front side member is investigated by using reverse engineering and FE-analysis. The reverse engineering is applied to obtain 3D model of front side member from B.I.W for the FE simulation. FE analysis is carried out with commercial crash analysis SW PAM-CRASH. The crashworthiness of front side member is considerably improved with steel sheet strength and thickness increase. From the result of this study the weight reduction in automotive parts for the improvement of the fuel efficiency can be easily achieved with replacing high strength steel without deterioration of crashworthiness.

A Study on the Physical Characteristics of Concrete using Multi-Component Blended Binder According to Warter Reduction Efficiency of Warter Reduction Agent (감수제의 감수 효율에 따른 다성분계 결합재를 사용한 콘크리트의 물리적 특성에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • In this study, multi-component blended concrete mix with fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag according to 3 level of type of warter reduction agent (type of 0%, 8% and 16%) and 3 level of water-binder ratio (40%, 45% and 50%) was prepared for evaluation of effect of physical characteristics of concrete using multi-component blended binder according to warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent. In addition, concrete mix was carried out repetition test of three times in order to secure the reliability. As a result, compressive strength according to type of warter reduction agent was found that difference of strength was about 20% occurred, warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent was showed that a great influence on qualities of concrete. Therefore, reflected the effect of warter reduction efficiency of warter reduction agent, prediction model equations of compressive strength for multi-component blended concrete was proposed, it was found that more than 90% of the high correlation.

  • Vehicle weight reduction is a known strategy to improve fuel efficiency and strengthen exhaust gas regulation. The use of high strength steel can satisfy safety, efficiency, emission, manufacturability, durability, and cost requirements. However, springback of high strength steel results in undesired shape defects. Springback is one of the most important issues of high strength steel for many applications in an automobile. Servo press has various capabilities to improve defects, process conditions, and productivity problems when forming a high strength steel. Especially, servo press can be set to function with variable slide motion in a single operation. In this study, the effect of servo press slide motion on 980MPa high strength steel was investigated through U-bending test.

Effect of cold rolling on the microstructures of TiNi/6061Al smart composites. (TiNi/6061Al 지적 복합재료의 미세조직에 미치는 냉간압연의 영향.)

  • The 2.5 vol% TiNi/6061Al composites were fabricated by permanent mold casting, and its microstructures and tensile test for the cold rolled composites with maximum 50% reduction ratio were investigated. In the case of TiNi fiber with 2mm interval in preform, the interface bonding of fabricated composites were good. EPMA analysis results were found the small amount of Mg, Si segregated interface of diffusion layer. Transverse section of TiNi fiber was decreased with increasing reduction ratio and 40% reduction ratio was observed microcrack from TiNi fiber. And the tensile strength of composites at 38% reduction ratio was 194MPa. In the case of over 38% reduction ratio, the decrease of the tensile strength was due to TiNi fiber rupture by excess working. The fracture mode was appeared brittle fracture with increasing reduction ratio

  • In civil engineering applications, the establishment of standards and procedures for analysis, design, fabrication, construction, and quality control are essential in facilitating the economic and efficient use of composite materials. Many bridge systems, including girders. cross beams, and concrete decks, function as specially orthotropic plates. in general, the analytical solution for such complex systems is very difficult to achieve. Thus, the finite difference method is used for the analysis of the problem. The rate of tensile strength reduction due to increased size is considered. Strength reduction is necessary to ensure the safe design of building structures. This paper suggests the use of a strength-failure analysis procedure using the reduced tensile strength. A numerical study is conducted for different cases. The Tasi-Wu failure criterion for stress space is also used.

  • Currently, studies on weight reduction and fuel efficiency increase are the most important topics in the automotive industry and many studies are under way. Among them, weight reduction is the best way to raise fuel efficiency and solve environmental pollution and resource depletion. Materials such as aluminum, magnesium and carbon curing materials can be found in lightweight materials. Among these, research on improvement of bonding technology and manufacturing method of materials and improvement of material properties through study of ultrahigh strength steel sheet is expected to be the biggest part of material weight reduction. As the strength of the ultra hight strength steel sheet increases during forming, it is difficult to obtain the dimensional accuracy as the elastic restoring force increases compared to the hardness or high strength steel sheet. It is known that the spring back phenomenon is affected by various factors depending on the raw material and processing process. We have conducted analytical evaluations and studies to analyze the springback that occurs according to the cross-sectional shape of the ultra high tensile steel sheet.

Study on the cold pressure welding by upsetting (업셋팅 을 이용한 냉간압접 에 대한 연구)

  • The mechanical properties and bonding mechanism of aluminum, copper and mild steel have been determined in cold pressure welding. The brittle cover layer to be established by scratch-brushing plays an important role in bond strength and has an influence on the threshold of deformation. The cold pressure welding was achieved at 54% of height reduction in A1-A1, 75% in Cu-Cu, 56% in Al-Cu, and 74% in Cu-steel. The height reduction at which the bond strength of weld interface was the same as the tensile strength of base metal should be over 76% in Al-Al, 82% in Cu-Cu, and 78% in Al-Cu.

  • This study aims to achieve an enhancement in the quality of high strength concrete through a reduction in autogenous shrinkage by supplying the moisture needed for hydration through recycled aggregates that retain high amounts of moisture. The result showed that, moisture supply increased with the higher replacement rate, autogenous shrinkage dropped by up to 45 percent.

Shear Strength Reduction Ratio of Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls with Openings (개구부를 갖는 철근콘크리트 전단벽의 전단강도 저감률)

  • There are many types of remodeling, however, engineers and architectures preferred to merge two or more separate units to one very spacious unit. Performing this type of remodeling, in the case of wall dominant apartments, requires partial removal of structural wall causing a concern of structural integrity. However, there are insufficient studies about partial removal, that is, openings. Presently, ACI standard have no clear way to evaluate the effect of opening on the structural wall. AIJ has the provision about strength reduction factor '$\gamma$'. However, this reduction factor cannot exactly evaluate the reduction effect of openings because this factor '$\gamma$' was determined through the elastic analysis. Therefore, in this study, 2 structural wall specimens were tested and many test results from previous studies were collected. Using these data, this study performed statistical analysis about strength of structural wall which have the opening in wall panel. And this study performed parametric study verifying shear strength reducing effect by opening area. In the results of statistical study, previous reduction factor show very conservative results because this equation did not consider other factors, reinforcement ratio and aspect ratio of openings, which was affect the shear strength of shear walls. Therefore we performed parametric study based on the test data and suggest new equation for shear strength reduction factor '$\gamma$'.

Characteristics of Concrete Polymer Composite Using Atomizing Reduction Steel Slag (I) (Use of PMMA as a Shrinkage Reducing Agent) (아토마이징 제강 환원슬래그를 사용한 폴리머 콘크리트 복합재료의 특성 (I) (PMMA 수축저감재를 사용))

  • In order to use the spherical atomizing reduction steel slag (ladle furnace slag, LFS) instead of the fine aggregate of polymer concrete composites, various specimens were prepared with various replacement ratios of atomizing reduction steel slag and the addition ratios of polymer binder. Physical properties of these specimens were investigated through the absorption test, the compressive strength test, the flexural strength test, the hot water resistance test, the pore analysis and the micro-structure using scanning electron microscope. Results showed that the compressive strength and flexural strength of specimens with 7.5% of polymer binders increased with the increase of replacement ratios of atomizing reduction steel slag, but those of the specimens with 8.0% or more of polymer binders showed a maximum strength at a certain replacement ratio due to the material segregation causing the increase of fluidity. By hot water resistance tests, the compressive strength, flexural strength, average pore diameter, and bulk density decreased but the total pore volume and pore diameter increased. It was concluded that the amount of polymer binders could be reduced by maximum 23.8%, because the workability of the polymer concrete was remarkably improved by using the atomizing reduction steel slag instead of fine aggregate. However, since the use of atomizing reduction steel slag decreased the resistance of the polymer concrete to hot water, further studies are required.
