A Correlation Study on Pain, Range of Motion of Neck, Neck Disability Index and Grip Strength after Thoracic Manipulation and Cervical Stabilization Training in Chronic Neck Pain

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship among pain, range of motion of the neck, neck disability index and grip strength after thoracic manipulation and cervical stabilization training in patients with chronic neck pain. Methods: In this study, twelve subjects with chronic neck pain were included. All participants had thoracic manipulation and cervical stabilization training. Intervention was conducted three times per a week, for 4 weeks. The visual analogue scale (VAS), range of motion of neck, neck disability index (NDI), as well as the grip strength before and after intervention were measured in all participants. Paired t-test was used to compare variables before and after intervention. Pearson correlation analysis was used to identify the correlations between the variables. Results: All variables after the intervention were significantly improved. There was a significant negative correlation between VAS and flexion angle of the neck (r=-0.669, p<0.05). Moreover, there was a significant positive correlation between NDI and VAS (r=0.636, p<0.05), and a significant negative correlation between NDI and flexion angle of the neck (r=-0.692, p<0.05). Conclusion: Patients with reduced pain following therapeutic intervention illustrated that there would be an improvement in the flexion angle rather than the extension angle of the neck, and that those with increased flexion angle would have less restriction of activities in daily living.

철근콘크리트 전단벽의 횡하중-횡변위 관계의 일반화 (Generalized Lateral Load-Displacement Relationship of Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls)

  • 이 연구에서는 철근콘크리트 전단벽의 횡하중 거동과 연성을 합리적으로 평가하기 위해서 모멘트-곡률관계를 정립하고 이로부터 단순화된 횡하중-횡변위관계를 제시하였다. 최초 휨 균열, 인장철근 항복, 최대내력, 최대내력의 80% 및 인장철근파단시점에서 모멘트와 곡률은 힘의 평형조건과 변형적합조건으로부터 정립되었다. 최대내력 이후의 곡률평가를 위한 압축측연단 콘크리트 변형률은 Razvi and Saatcioglu의 구속된 콘크리트의 응력-변형률 관계를 이용하여 최대응력의 감소계수와 횡보강근 체적지수의 함수로 제시하였다. 모멘트 평가모델은 변수연구를 통하여 인장철근지수, 수직철근지수 및 축력지수의 함수로 일반화하였다. 횡변위는 전단벽의 높이에 따라 분포된 이상화된 곡률로부터 모멘트 면적법을 이용하여 환산하였다. 제시된 횡하중-횡변위관계는 기존 실험 결과와 잘 일치하였으며, 특히 최대내력 이후의 거동을 잘 평가하였다.

생선회의 육질향상에 미치는 저온 브라인 침지시간의 영향 (Effect of Cold Brine Immersion Time on Sliced Raw Fish Texture)

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate physicochemical changes in olive flounder and korean rockfish muscle subjected to the cold brine, and to find the optimal immersion condition. Effects of various immersion conditions in a sliced raw fish quality were investigated in the rigor index, breaking strength, ATP related compounds, and lactate accumulation in the muscle. The onset of rigor-mortis was accelerated by the increase of immersion time. Also, the time reaching full rigor was shortened remarkably too. However, the rigor index of samples immersed in the cold brine decreased more than that of samples killed instantly. Rigor index was the highest in samples killed instantly, followed by 2.5 min, 5min, 7.5 min, 10 min and 15 min in order. Breaking strength of all samples immersed in the cold brine decreased significantly after reaching the maximum values. The content of ATP related compounds in olive flounder, korean rockfish were $12.0{\mu}mole/g$ and $8.3{\mu}mole/g$, respectively. However, ATP decreased in the samples immersed in the cold brine. The content of ATP was lower, at the optimal condition and then it was increased. Also, lactates increased, at the optimal condition and then it decreased, in contrast with the ATP. The results suggested that the optimal immersion condition of olive flounder and korean rockfish was at -${12.5}^{\circ}C$ for 5min.

골판지 고지의 물리화학적 처리에 의한 강도향상(제3보) - 수초지의 물리적 특성변화 - (Strength Property Improvement of OCC-based Paper by Chemical and Mechanical Treatments (III) - Handsheet physical properties -)

  • This study is a continuation of the previous experimental analysis and is mostly focused on handsheet strength properties. Four completely different fibers, which were Hw-BKP, SW-BKP, White ledger, and OCC, were selected to investigate the effect of mechanical pre-treatment by Hobart mixer on handsheet strehgth properties. After equal time mechanical pre-treatment, the fibers were refined with laboratory valley beater for 10, 20 and 30 minutes, and handsheets were prepared from the fibers for physical strength comparison. Handsheets from SW-BKP and OCC showed 5-30% increase of breaking length, burst index, tear index, and compression index while handsheets from HW-BKP and White ledger no increase except tear index. In Hobart mixer pre-treatment, HW-BKP and White ledger fibers were easily attached to the wall of the mixer bowl and mechanical action was not effectively applied. The fiber length of Hw-BKP and White ledger were 0.837 mm and 1.591 mm, respectively, while SW-BKP and OCC were 2.744 mm and 2.033 mm, respectively, in weight weighted length. The effective mechanical pre-treatment seems to be related to the fiber length. Tear indexes of the pre-treated furnish were much higher than no pre-treatment at the same breaking length level.

기계 가공된 복합재료 키 조인트의 강도 연구 (A Study on Strength of the Machined Composite Key Joint)

  • 복합재료가 기계부품, 항공기 구조물에 폭 넓게 적용됨에 따라, 복합재료 구조물에서 가장 취약한 복합재료 체결부의 설계는 매우 중요한 연구 분야로 대두되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 기계적 체결방법의 문제점으로 발생하는 원공주위의 높은 응력집중현상을 감소시키기 위하여, 복합재료 키 조인트(composite key joint)를 제안하였고 파손강도를 평가하였다. 제안된 복합재료키 조인트 체결부의 파손 판정을 위해서 파손지수(failure index)와 파손영역법(damage area theory)이 각각 적용되었다. 실험 결과로부터 복합재료 키 조인트는 기계적 체결부의 파손강도보다 93% 높은 값을 가짐을 볼 수 있었고, 복합재료 키 홈 깊이(key slot depth)가 0.88 mm이고 끝단 길이(edge length)가 20 mm일 때 가장 높은 파손하중 나타내었다.

The relationship between reinforcing index and flexural parameters of new hybrid fiber reinforced slab

  • In this paper, a new hybrid fiber system (NHFS) is investigated for the application of slab. The steel fiber, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) fiber and calcium carbonate ($CaCO_3$) whisker is added to form NHFS. The four-point bending test is carried out on the flexural properties of slab with plain, steel fiber, traditional hybrid fiber system (THFS) and NHFS reinforced cementitious composites. The flexural behavior is evaluated by ASTM C1018-97, JCI-SF4 and post-crack strength (PCS) technique. The evaluation parameters of flexural toughness such as toughness index (TI), equivalent flexural strength (EFS) and PCS are determined. The size of slab specimens is $15mm(thickness){\times}50mm(width){\times}200mm(length)$. The results show that adding $CaCO_3$ whisker to THFS can significantly improve the flexural strength, TI, EFS, PCS of the slab. The empirical relation between reinforcing index ($RI_v$) and flexural parameters show that flexural parameters of slabs increase first and then decrease; which indicates that optimum $RI_v$ values can be helpful in the considering the mix design of steel-PVA fibers-$CaCO_3$ whisker composites for achieving the desired flexural-related properties. The scanning electron microscopy is performed to observe the micro-morphological characteristics of the fracture surface, which proved the positive hybrid effect among the different fibers in cementitious composites. The NHFS can arrest the generation and propagation of the crack from micro to macro level.

고속도로 콘크리트 포장에 대한 품질평가지수 평가인자의 적정성 검토 (Feasibility Study the Assessment Factor of Quality Performance Index in Expressway Concrete Pavement)

  • 고속도로의 확충과 산업발전에 따른 물동량 증가로 인하여 도로 구조물의 내구성 저하와 취약구간의 반복적인 하자가 발생하고 있다. 따라서 국외에서 사용하는 품질보증제도 도입방안에 대한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 국내의 경우 한국도로공사는 점검위주의 품질관리에서 목적물의 품질성능 위주의 품질관리 체계로의 전환을 위하여 목적물의 품질 수준 측정이 가능하도록 정량적 평가 지수인 품질성능지수(QPI : Quality Performance Index)를 개발하여 적용하고 있다. 품질성능지수에서 콘크리트포장 평가인자는 포장두께, 압축강도, 평탄성, 기포간격계수로 구성되어 있다. 콘크리트 평가인자의 경우 국외에서 경험적 판단에 의해 자체적으로 선정된 인자를 사용하고 있는 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 콘크리트 포장 평가인자를 수명예측 시뮬레이션 및 실측 자료를 활용하여 분석하고 평가인자의 적정성을 검토하였다. QPI의 콘크리트포장 평가인자인 포장두께, 압축강도, 평탄성, 기포간격계수는 포장수명, 공용성 및 내구성을 적절하게 판단할 수 있는 인자로 사료된다.

Effects of the Neck Stabilization Exercises with Vibratory Stimulation on the Neck Disability Index and Thickness of Deep Neck Flexor in Neck Pain Patient

  • Purpose: This study examined the effects of neck stabilization exercises with vibratory stimulation on the neck disability index and thickness of the deep neck flexor. Methods: Thirty subjects (control group=15, experimental group=15) with mild neck pain were enrolled in the study. The control group underwent craniocervical flexion exercise (control group, CG) and the experimental group was given craniocervical flexion exercise with vibratory stimulus (experimental group, EG) (3 sets, 3 times per week for 6 weeks). To examine the effects of exercise, the subjects were evaluated using the neck disability index (NDI), the thickness of the deep neck flexor muscle, and muscle strength. An independent and paired t-test were used to compare the effects of the exercise between the groups. Results: The NDI score of the two groups increased significantly after 6 weeks of treatment (p<0.001) and there was a significant difference between the EG group at 3 weeks (p<0.05) and 6 weeks (p<0.01). The thickness of the deep neck flexor in the CG group increased significantly after 6 weeks of treatment in all pressure stages (p<0.001). The EG group showed a significant increase after 3 and 6 weeks of treatment in all pressure stage (p<0.001), and 22 mmHg, a significant difference between 3 and 6 weeks (p<0.05) and among 24, 28, and 30 mmHg at 6 weeks (p<0.05). The maximum muscle strength of the deep neck flexion muscles increased significantly in the two groups after 6 weeks of treatment (p<0.001) and there was significant difference between the EG group at 6 weeks (p<0.01). Conclusion: Craniocervical flexion exercise with vibratory stimulus decreases the NDI, and increases the thickness of the deep neck flexor and maximum muscle strength of the deep neck flexion muscles in patients with mild neck pain.

스위스 볼과 탄성 밴드를 이용한 저항성운동이 여성 노인의 체력 및 근감소증 지표에 미치는 영향 (The effects of 12-weeks complex training using swiss ball and elastic band on senior fitness and sarcopenia index in elderly women)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 스위스 볼과 탄성 밴드를 이용한 12주간의 복합운동이 여성 노인의 체력 및 근감소증 지표에 미치는 영향을 보고자 하였다. 운동집단 13명과 통제집단 14명으로 분류하여, 운동 집단은 주 3회, 3세트, 운동강도 약간 힘들게, 60분 실시하였다. 측정 변인은 근력, 전신지구력, 유연성과 동적 평형성으로 하였고, 근감소증 지표는 근력 요인과 단기운동수행력으로 하였다. 연구결과 체력 변인에서는 근력, 전신지구력과 유연성에서는 유의한 개선이 없었고, 동적 평형성에서는 유의한 개선이 있었다. 근감소증 지표에서는 유의한 개선이 없었으나 단기운동수행력에서는 유의한 개선이 있었다. 결론적으로 스위스 볼과 탄성 밴드를 이용한 복합운동은 동적 평형성과 단기운동수행력에 긍정적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

허리 안정화 운동과 병행한 엉덩근육 강화 운동이 제왕절개 분만 후 만성허리통증을 가진 여성의 통증, 기능장애지수, 산후우울증에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Gluteus Muscle Exercise combined with the Lumbar Stabilization Exercise on Pain, ODI, and Postpartum Depression in Women with Chronic Back Pain After C-section Delivery)

  • Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of combining the lumbar stabilization exercise with the gluteal muscle strength exercise on pain, the dysfunction index, and postnatal depression in women experiencing chronic low back pain after a cesarean section. Methods: The study used a randomized design with two groups: one group (n=15) performed the lumbar stabilization exercise along with the gluteal muscle strength exercise, while the other group (n=15) only did the lumbar stabilization exercise. The intervention consisted of 30 minute exercise sessions, twice a week, for 6 weeks. The pain was assessed using the visual analog scale (VAS), the dysfunction index with the Oswestry disability index (ODI), and postnatal depression using the edinburgh postnatal depression scale-Korean version (EPDS-K). Results: Both groups showed significant improvements in their VAS, ODI, and EPDS-K scores within their respective groups (p<.05). Additionally, the between-group analysis revealed significant differences in post-test results (p<.05). Conclusion: The combination of the lumbar stabilization exercise and the gluteal muscle strength exercise proved to be more effective in reducing pain, improving the dysfunction index, and alleviating postnatal depression in women with chronic low back pain after a cesarean section. Therefore, incorporating these exercises could be beneficial as an intervention program for women experiencing chronic low back pain after a cesarean section.
