A Gaussian Mixture Model for Binarization of Natural Scene Text

  • Recently, due to the increase of the use of scanned images, the text segmentation techniques, which play critical role to optimize the quality of the scanned images, are required to be updated and advanced. In this study, an algorithm has been developed based on the modification of Gaussian mixture model (GMM) by integrating the calculation of Gaussian detection gradient and the estimation of the number clusters. The experimental results show an efficient method for text segmentation in natural scenes such as storefronts, street signs, scanned journals and newspapers at different size, shape or color of texts in condition of lighting changes and complex background. These indicate that our model algorithm and research approach can address various issues, which are still limitations of other senior algorithms and methods.

  • Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles Vol. 19, No. 6 (1995) p. 895~910 The purpose of study was to estimate the consistency between brand image and shopping bag image, and also to find out the important factors which constructed the brand image. This study was conducted by means of a questionnaire survey of female students of moi or universities in Seoul. Frequency, percentage, mean, factor analysis, 1-test, ANOVA, Fisher's LSD, Coster analysis, MDS are used for data analysis. The result are as follows: 1) Brand image was devised into three factors: personality/modernity, nobility and usability. 2) The rate of consistency of brand image and shopping bag image was high in the brands of Benetton, System, Cresson, Be-art, Tomboy, Guess, Esprit, Anacapri, Mercoledi, Youngwoo in descending order. 3) The most important factor which represent the brand image was the choice of color. 4) This study found that shopping bags can be advertising media because they think that shopping bags played an important role as a walking advertising media on the street.

  • This study examined the P Church in the Large chapel and S Church in the midium chapel were Analyzed to the installed stage broadcast lighting system. As a result of the installation of lighting equipment of LED class in P Church in the Large chapel, it provided clearer image and did not have shadow. While tungsten halogen illumination was very hot and heated to be preaching, LED was not heated so the pastor was very comfortable for preaching. S Church in the Midium chapel due to low ceiling height using LED lighting musical, theater and possibly were directed. If a similar structure of Dae-Hak Street theater to replace the existing fixtures by LED lighting, rendering effective and energy saving effect is thought to have much effect.

  • As sports infiltrates each field of modern society and becomes familiar, sports wear was changed functionally and was introduced and enveloped into everyday dress. Modern sports wear has been the settled in everyday life deeply and become the clothes of life which are worn regardless of place, time and age. The aim of this paper was to clarify what kind of fashion of sports style would be given to the modern people. In this study, sports wear which has become everyday dress classified from a gender point of view. It was divided into masculine image, feminine image, and neutral image. Sports wear of masculine image generated a silhouette which emphasized the shoulder with the aspiration for youth and health. Wide shoulder was considered as the symbol of masculine beauty and the expression of healthy beauty. It was reflected well in body conscious look. And owing to the development of up-to-data materials, innovation of design, and the study of human body technology, the functional character was settled in the sports wear which showed masculine image. Sports wear of feminine image was represented fashion of body exposure, body feet with body conscious look, and romantic mode. This image was expressed fashion as comforts, pleasant, active design, materials, color, and romantic feminine beauty. Sports wear of neutral image was expressed into unisex clothes. This cloths have no difference in gender, age, and class. It was used as casual sports wear. In the 1960s, young generation participated in such street sports as street basketball and skate. They usually sore the sports wears of neutral image such as cycling, skating, and ski. In the materials of sports, the development of up-to-data material like lycra made the sayings lifelike, “up-to-data material is the second skin” It show that glamorous feminine image and strong masculine image coexisted. The contemporary concept of sportswear is no longer limited to those clothes for sports found in such places like tennis court or swimming pool. Now, the sports wear become more like casual activity wear all classes of people can enjoy in their life regardless of where they are, when they wear, and even how old they are.

Improvement of Building Region Correspondence between SLI and Vector Map Based on Region Splitting (영역분할에 의한 SLI와 벡터 지도 간의 건물영역 일치도 향상)

  • After the spatial discrepancy between SLI(Street-Level Imagery) and vector map is removed by their conflation, the corresponding building regions can be found based on SLI parameters. The building region correspondence, however, is not perfect even after the conflation. This paper aims to improve the correspondence of building regions by region splitting of an SLI. Regions are initialized by the seed lines, projection of building objects onto SLI scene. First, sky images are generated by filtering, segmentation, and sky region detection. Candidates for split lines are detected by edge detector, and then images are splitted into building regions by optimal split lines based on color difference and sky existence. The experiments demonstrated that the proposed region splitting method had improved the accuracy of building region correspondence from 83.3% to 89.7%. The result can be utilized effectively for enhancement of SLI services.

A Study on the Improvement of Commercial Building Design in the Central Area of a Small Town - Focused on the Central Rotary District in Geochang-eup - (읍 중심부 상가건물 디자인 개선방향에 관한 연구 - 거창읍 중앙로타리 주변을 대상으로 -)

  • Townscape design is now considered to be the most important part in city management as a means to improve the life quality of its dwellers. Therefore, the recognition of local autonomous entities and local residents on townscape has been greatly changed. As a part of this effort, the plan to improve the townscape of the central rotary district in Geochang-eup has been examined in multilateral ways. In this plan, first, improvement for proper buildings was studied. Second, betterment for street furniture around the central rotary was considered. Third, making a landscape square around it was also investigated. Based on those considerations, this article intends to suggest directions for improving the commercial buildings of the central rotary district which has the greatest symbolicity in Geochang-eup. To achieve the goal, this paper conducted a survey to the dwellers beforehand in order to investigate their recognition on creating townscape for the central rotary district and collected their opinions on it. According to the result, among the elements of townscape in the shopping district around the rotary, the externals of the buildings such as signboards, color, and shape and the pleasantness part like the maintenance of telegraph poles occupied the highest portion on the street. And It is proposed 4 Alternative plans for the improvement of commercial building design in the central rotary district of geochang-eup.

  • Hijab as a symbol of women's oppression due to the opening and reform of Islamic State group, is becoming more diverse as younger generation begins to dress more freely than ever before, spreading the perception that it is a fashion item. In response, this research conducted a theoretical review about the history of hijab, various forms of hijab, and characteristics of hijab using relevant literature, media reports, and fashion media articles. As an empirical study, image-oriented photo data shared by Tehran Street Fashion from 2015 to November 2019 were analyzed separately by fashion majors into color, pattern, and hijab-making forms. According to the analysis, six different fashion images were categorized as romantic feminine, modern chic, natural elegant, classic formal, sporty casual and gorgeous ethnic. For Muslim women in the past, hijab was worn as a repressive and closed sense by the religious system. However, in modern times, it is a way to express one's style and ideas as a fashion item. It is also and a means to express one's thoughts and beliefs. Through aesthetic consideration of Hijab as a fashion item, it was found that it was a medium for freedom of expression and a medium for beauty and individuality.

A Study on the Fashion Design and Style of K-Pop Boy Groups - Focusing on the Music Programs and YouTube Videos of BTS and Seventeen - (K-Pop 보이 그룹의 패션디자인 및 스타일 연구 - 방탄소년단, 세븐틴의 음악 방송 프로그램 및 유튜브 영상을 중심으로 -)

  • This study tried to examine the fashion design and style of representative K-Pop boy groups BTS and SEVENTEEN appearing on music shows. The data collection was conducted on 4 music programs(Inkigayo, Music Bank, Show! Music Core, M COUNTDOWN) and YouTube(www.youtube.com) for each boy who worked for 5 years from January 2016 to December 2020. Result analysis utilized the stage scenes and music videos of the title songs of BTS and Seventeen. As for the fashion design and style characteristics of BTS, it was found that overall, the color, pattern, and decoration of the bottom were minimized, and the style was changed mainly by the top of the denim pants. As for Seventeen's fashion design and style characteristics, it was analyzed that plain simple slacks, bright and modest chromatic colors, and geometric and stylistic patterns with street retro sensibility were relatively emphasized, and natural and romantic images appeared a lot. As a result of examining the differences in fashion design and style characteristics between BTS and Seventeen, significant differences were found in color, tone, color scheme, material type, material combination, detail, trimming, pattern, accessories, and fashion image. Overall, it was found that both groups minimized the use of decorative elements such as patterns, details, and trimmings.

A Road Luminance Measurement Application based on Android (안드로이드 기반의 도로 밝기 측정 어플리케이션 구현)

  • According to the statistics of traffic accidents over recent 5 years, traffic accidents during the night times happened more than the day times. There are various causes to occur traffic accidents and the one of the major causes is inappropriate or missing street lights that make driver's sight confused and causes the traffic accidents. In this paper, with smartphones, we designed and implemented a lane luminance measurement application which stores the information of driver's location, driving, and lane luminance into database in real time to figure out the inappropriate street light facilities and the area that does not have any street lights. This application is implemented under Native C/C++ environment using android NDK and it improves the operation speed than code written in Java or other languages. To measure the luminance of road, the input image with RGB color space is converted to image with YCbCr color space and Y value returns the luminance of road. The application detects the road lane and calculates the road lane luminance into the database sever. Also this application receives the road video image using smart phone's camera and improves the computational cost by allocating the ROI(Region of interest) of input images. The ROI of image is converted to Grayscale image and then applied the canny edge detector to extract the outline of lanes. After that, we applied hough line transform method to achieve the candidated lane group. The both sides of lane is selected by lane detection algorithm that utilizes the gradient of candidated lanes. When the both lanes of road are detected, we set up a triangle area with a height 20 pixels down from intersection of lanes and the luminance of road is estimated from this triangle area. Y value is calculated from the extracted each R, G, B value of pixels in the triangle. The average Y value of pixels is ranged between from 0 to 100 value to inform a luminance of road and each pixel values are represented with color between black and green. We store car location using smartphone's GPS sensor into the database server after analyzing the road lane video image with luminance of road about 60 meters ahead by wireless communication every 10 minutes. We expect that those collected road luminance information can warn drivers about safe driving or effectively improve the renovation plans of road luminance management.
