Environmental issues about indoor air quality have been increased and focused on volatile organic compounds (VOCs) caused cancer, asthma, and skin disease. Reducing VOCs has been attempted in many different methods such as using environmentally friendly materials and air cleaner or purifier. Charcoal is well known material for absorbing VOCs. Therefore, carbonized board from medium density fiberboard has been developed. We assumed that the source of carbonized boards can be any type of wood-based panels. In this study, carbonized boards were manufactured from oriented strand board (OSB) at 400, 600, 800, and $1000^{\circ}C$. Each carbonized OSB (c-OSB) was evaluated and determined physiomechanical characteristics such as exterior defects, dimensional shrinkage, modulus of elasticity, and bending strength. No external defects were observed on c-OSBs at all carbonizing conditions. As carbonizing temperature increased, less porosity between carbonized wood fibers was observed by SEM analysis. The higher rate of dimensional shrinkage was observed on c-OSB at $1000^{\circ}C$ (66%) than c-OSB at 400, 600, and $800^{\circ}C$ (47%, 58%, and 63%, respectively). The densities of c-OSBs were lower than original OSB, but there was no significant different among the c-OSBs. The bending strength of c-OSB increased 1.58 MPa (c-OSB at $400^{\circ}C$) to 8.03 MPa (c-OSB at $1000^{\circ}C$) as carbonization temperature increased. Carbonization temperature above $800^{\circ}C$ yielded higher bonding strength than that of gypsum board (4.6 MPa). In conclusion, c-OSB may be used in sealing and wall for decorating purpose without additional artwork compare to c-MDF which has smooth surface.
This paper describes an in-depth analysis on flexural strength of a girder-deck system experiencing a strand debonding damage with various strengthening systems, based on finite element software ABAQUS. A detailed finite element analysis (FEA) model was developed and verified against the relevant experimental data performed by other researchers. The proposed analytical model showed a good agreement with experimental data. Based on the verified FE model, over a hundred girder-deck systems were investigated with the consideration of following variables: 1) debonding level, 2) span-to-depth ratio (L/d), 3) strengthening type, 4) strengthening material thickness. Based on the data above, a new detailed analytical model was developed and proposed for estimating residual flexural strength of the strand-debonding damaged girder-deck system with strengthening systems. It was demonstrated that both finite element model and analysis model could be used to predict flexural behaviors for debonding damaged prestressed girder-deck systems. Since the strands are debonding from surrounding concrete over a certain zone over the length of the beam, the increase of strain in strands can be linked with a ratio ψ, which is Lp/c. The analytical model was proposed and developed regarding the ratio ψ. By conducting procedure of calculating ψ, the ψ value varies from 9.3 to 70.1. Multiple nonlinear regression analysis was performed in Software IBM SPSS Statistics 27.0.1 to derive equation of ψ. ψ equation was curved to be an exponential function, and the independent variable (X) is a linear function in terms of three variables of debonding level (λ), span length (L), and amount of strengthening material (As). The coefficient of determinate (R2) for curve fitting in nonlinear regression analysis is 0.8768. The developed analytical model was compared to the ultimate capacities computed by FEA model.

Bacteriophage lambda integrase carries out the site-specific recombination of lambda. Integrase contains two DNA binding domains with distinct sequence specificity, namely arm-type binding and core-type binding domains. The amino-terminal arm-binding domain is structurally related to the three-stranded $\beta-sheet$ family of DNA-binding domains. Integrase binding to the high affinity arm-type site by the amino-terminal domain facilitates Int binding to the low affinity core-type site, where the cleavage and strand exchange occurs. The amino-terminal domain of Int also modulates the core-binding and catalysis through intramolecular domain-domain interaction and/or intermolecular interactions between Int monomers. In addition, the amino-terminal domain interacts cooperatively with excisionase during excision. This indicates that amino-terminal domain of Int plays an important role in formation of proper higher-order nucleoprotein structure required for lambda site-specific recombination.
Shear tests are performed on four full-scale 12.5 m proto-type models, "least depth double tee," which are resulted from the optimization process. Domestic superimposed live load regulation, domestic material properties which is available to product. Korean building code requirements, construction environments and economy are considered as the main factors to establish the process. All of the specimens tested fully comply with the shear strength requirements as specified by ACI 318-95. The research has shown following results. 1) The development length requirement of ACI 318-95 does not seem a good predictor for the estimation of bond failure in a beam with the strands below the supports. 2) The load required for the first initial coner cracking in the dap end and first web shear cracking does not seem to have any relation with the dimension and shear strength of the section in the test beams. 3) The strand slip has a direct relationship with the web shear cracking. However, the coner cracking in the dap end does not give any help for the slip in anchorage. 4) Use of whole area for bearing steel at the bottom of dap end is desired for safe bearing pressure design in the precast prestressed double tee beams. 5) The deflection of beam influences directly on the amount of strand slip at the anchorage after initiation of it, and relationship between them are very linear.
In this study, parametric analyses on a hoop-type PZT (lead-zirconate-titanate) interface are performed to estimate the effects of the PZT interface's materials and geometries on sensitivities of impedance responses under strand breakage. The paper provides a guideline for installing the PZT interface suitable in tendon anchorages for damage-sensitive impedance signatures. Firstly, the concept of the PZT interface-based impedance monitoring technique in prestressed tendon anchorage is briefly described. A FE (finite element) analysis is conducted on a multi-strands anchorage equipped with a hoop-type PZT interface for analyzing materials and geometric effects. Various material properties, geometric sizes of the interface, and PZT sensor are simulated under two states of prestressing force for acquiring impedance responses. Changes in impedance signals are statistically quantified to analyze the effect of these factors on damage-sensitive impedance monitoring in the tendon anchorage. Finally, experimental analyses are performed to demonstrate the effects of materials and geometrical properties of the PZT interface on damage-sensitive impedance monitoring.
This study was to figure out proper Formaldehyde/Urea molar ratio of UF resin with satisfactory bonding strength of plywood and properties of particleboard. The six kinds of UF resins were manufactured with F/U molar ratio 1.0, 1.2, 1.4, 1.6, 1.8, and 2.0. The boards were made of three kinds of raw materials : Veneer, Sliver-Particle and Strand-Particle. Manufacturing condition of plywood : amount of mixing resin was 150g/$m^2$. The fourty secs/mm simple-pressing schedule in the pressure 10kgf/$m^2$ was applied for 480mm${\times}$700mm board at the temperature of $110^{\circ}C$ in a hot press. Manufacturing condition of particleboard : Target density was 0.65g/$cm^2$. The stepwise 9 minutes- multi-pressing schedule in the maximum pressure 40kgf/$cm^2$, the minimum pressure 15kgf/$cm^2$ was applied for $480mm{\times}634mm{\times}12mm$ board at the temperature of $150^{\circ}C$ in a hot press. The results are as follows : I. In bonding strength, plywood which was made by F/U molar ratio 1.2 showed the highest value. Other molar ratio resin also gave the satisfied value of KS standard, 7.5kgf/$cm^2$. 2. In internal bond strength of particleboard, Sliver-Particleboard(SLPB) and Strand-Particleboard(STPB) varied respectively from 5.9kgf/$cm^2$ to 4.8kgf/$cm^2$, from 6.7kgf/$cm^2$ to 5.4kgf/$cm^2$. SLPB with F/U=1.2 and STPB with F/U=1.6 had higher IB value. Also, both SLPB and STPB showed lower IB value in F/U molar ratio 2.0 and 1.0. 3. SLPB and STPB with six kinds of UF resin respectively satisfied bending strength of KS standard 150 Type(130kgf/$cm^2$) and 200 Type(180kgf/$cm^2$). Bending strength data for both of SLPB and STPB showed little or no loss from F/U=1.8 to F/U=1.2. Also, STPB was approximately two times higher than that of SLPB. Therefore, the raw material's shape had more effect on bending strength than the FlU molar ratio. 4. F/U=1.6 and 1.4 showed the lower thickness swelling in SLPB and STPB. All of STPBs satisfied thickness swelling of KS standard, under 12%.

According to the results of "Highway Bridges Long Life Repair Plan." The most serious damage to RC slabs is caused by fatigue deterioration, which results from the driving loads of large-sized vehicles, and aging of materials. In response to this, adhesion reinforcement using carbon fiber sheet is being adopted. In addition, carbon fiber strand sheet that holds the same material characteristics as CFS, but has superior workability, has been developed as a new reinforcement material. However, almost no studies have been conducted on CFSS in relation to fatigue resistance evaluation through fatigue tests under running wheel loads, with the exception of a few by some organizations. Therefore, in this study, specimens with front CFS adhesion reinforcement on the bottom surface of the RC slab and specimens with grid-type CFSS reinforcement were manufactured. Then, fatigue tests under running wheel loads were conducted, and thus fatigue resistance was evaluated using the specimens.
A 4,971 bp chromosomal DNA fragment containing the pqrA, paraquat resistance gene, was cloned from Ochrobactrum anthropi JW-2, and the complete nucleotide sequence was determined. Nucleotide and deduced amino acid sequences of the fragment revealed the presence of 4 complete ORFs (orf2, pqrA, orf3, orf4) and two incomplete ORFs(orf1, orf5). Orf1, pqrA, orf4 and orf5 exists at the direct strand but orf2 and orf3 exists at the reverse complementary strand. Orf1 which of incomplete sequences without start codon shares homology with ATP binding region of the response regulator receiver. Orf2 shares high homology with members of the tetR family of transcriptional repressor which have a helix-turn-helix (H-T-H) motif. Therefore, the orf2 is predicted as a transcriptional repressor of pqrA and is designated as pqrR2. Orf3 shares high homology with the members of the lysR family acting as a transcriptional activator which have both of a H-T-H motif at the N-terminal region and substrate binding domain at the C-terminal region. Therefore, the orf3 is predicted as a transcriptional activator of pqrA and is designated as pqrR1. Orf4 shows homology with the periplasmic substrate-binding protein of amino acid ABC transporter. Orf5 which of incomplete sequences without stop codon revealed the homology with the permeases protein of amino acid ABC transporter.
Recently, a variety of arthroscopic techniques have been reported for the treatment of the displaced tibial eminence fracture. The purpose of this study was to describe details of arthroscopic technique using pull-out wire and to evaluate the results. Eleven patients with irreducible type II and type III tibial eminence fractures underwent the arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation using double strand pull-out wiring. The anterior cruciate ligament tibial drill guide was utilized for the reduction of fracture and passage of the guide pins. The tibial eminence fracture was firmly fixed with double strand 26-gauge pull-out wire(0.45mm diameter). Fracture union was achieved at 7.2 weeks (range, six to eight weeks) after operation. All cases were united at the last follow-up. Subjectively, nine patients had no pain and no restriction of daily activities. Two patients with combined injuries had limitation of knee motion(10 to 130 degrees, respectively) and one patient showed mild anterior laxity. Early rehabilitation was enabled without loss of reduction and breakage of pull-out wire. The arthroscopic reduction and internal fixation using pull-out wire showed good results including early rehabilitation, early fracture union, minimal morbidity, and no requirement of the second operation for hard ware removal.
We have found a protein kinase activity that is tightly associated with type II DNA topoisomerase purified from regenerating rat liver. The activities of protein kinase and topoisomerase II were not separable when the enzyme was subjected to analytical chromatographies (Hydroxyapatite, phosphocellulose, and double strand DNA cellulose) and glycerol gradient sedimentation. The kinase activity from purified rat topoisomerase II was also inactivated by the topoisomerase II inhibitors such as N-ethylmaleimide or novobiocin. The evidences, however, do not rule out a possibility that the kinase activity resides in a polypeptide other than the topoisomerase II protein. The topoisomerase II-associated protein kinase required Mg++ for its activity, and this requirement was not substituted by any other mono- or divalent ions. Histone H1 act as a strong stimulator and a good substrate for the kinase activity and other histones and ${\alpha}$-casein could not substitute the effect of histone H1.
