Deformation History of Product during Forward Extrusion Process (전방압출 공정에서 제품 변형 이력)

  • The study has been performed for the relation between die and product in forward extrusion by the experiment. Strains of the die have been given by the simple experiment using the strain gauge located at the outer surface of the die and the history of the deformation of the die and product is given by the experiment and Lame's formula. The inner pressure of the die causes the deformation of die that affects the accuracy of dimension and shape of product. The product with accurate dimension and shape can be obtained by analysing elastic deformation of the die during process. The deformation of the die during metal forming process has been usually predicted by the experience of industrial engineer or finite element analysis. But it is difficult to predict the dimension of product at unloading and ejected states. The study has given useful results for the deformation history of the die and product through the experiment and Lame's formula at forward extrusion for solid cylinder and can be applied to the die design for product with accurate dimension.

STRAIN CHANGES OF ACRYLIC RESIN SPECIMENS CURED BY THREE CURING CYCLES

  • The acrylic resin was first introduced as denture base materials in 1937 and it is commonly used for denture base fabrication nowadays. Three different curing cycles (Conventional curing cycle, short curing cycle and long curing cycle) and three commercially available heat-activated acrylic resins (Vertex RS, Lucitone 199 and ProBase Hot) were investigated to find the curing cycle and material that showed the minimum shrinkage of the resin during polymerization process. A brass master mold was fabricated and duplicated by additional silicone impression material. Stone molds were made by pouring of type III dental stone (SILKY-ROCK YELLOW, Whip-Mix, Louisville, Kentucky). It was embedded in the flask. Strain gauge and thermocouple were embedded in the specimen. Strain gauge and thermocouple were connected to signal conditioning amplifier and data was recorded by pre-programmed software. The parameters ESmax (Maximum expansion strain), Sb (Strain measured just before deflasking procedure), Sa (Strain measured just after deflasking procedure) and Sf (Strain measured at the end of the experiment) were measured. ${\Delta}$S was calculated from Sb and Sa (${\Delta}$S=Sb-Sa). In the experiment concerned about materials, the parameters 90-ESmax (Maximum expansion strain measured during early 90 minutes of curing procedure), 180-ESmax (Maximum expansion strain measured from 90 minutes to 180 minutes), Sb, Sa, ${\Delta}$S and Sf were measured and the following conclusions were made. 1. The ESmax value of conventional curing cycle showed the largest value and the 180-ESmax value of Lucitone 199 showed the smallest value. 90-ESmax values showed no significant difference (p<0.05). 2. ${\Delta}$S values of conventional curing cycle showed the positive values. ${\Delta}$S values of short curing cycle and long curing cycle showed the negative values. All three materials cured by conventional curing cycle showed the positive values. 3. The Sf values of long curing cycle and ProBase Hot (cured by conventional curing cycle) showed the smallest values.

Measurements of Dynamic Strain of Structures Using PVDF Films (PVDF 필름을 이용한 구조물의 동적 변형률 측정)

  • In this study, the applicability of PVDF films for measurements of dynamic strain in a structure was investigated. A relationship between the strain and the voltage response of a PVDF film was analytically derived. Free vibration test on a steel cantilever beam was performed and vibration response of the beam was measured both by a convential foil strain gauge and a PVDF film. Strain-voltage relationship obtained from the experiment was compared with the analytic relationship. Good agreement between the analytic and experimental relationships was observed. It was found that a tailored PVDF film can measure the dynamic strain of a structure as accurate as a conventional foil strain gauge.

  • Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) using the Model 95 Ar. laser, a video system and an image processor was applied to the in-plane displacement measurements. Unlike traditional strain gauges or Moire method, ESPI method requires no special surface preparation or attachments and can be measured in-plane displacement with no special surface preparation or attachments and can be measured in-plane displacement with no contact and real time. In this experiment specimen was loaded in parallel with a loadcell. The specimen was the cold rolled steel sheet of 2mm thickness, which was attached strain gauges. The study provides an example of how ESPI have been used to measure strain displacement in this specimen. The results measured by ESPI compare with the data which was measured by strain gauge method in tensile testing.

Error Calibration of Initial Value of Weight Measuring Sensors with Different Feature of Forklift (특성이 다른 지게차 적재 중량 센서의 초기 값 오차 보정)

  • The calibration method of the initial value error obtained in the weight measurement through anchor bolt type strain gauge sensor is proposed. The strain gauge sensor is developed for preventing the overturning of forklift, which is the most frequent type of safety-accident in industry. It was confirmed that the initial value error is caused from the physical and mechanical error of anchor bolt, and the environmental problem. Since the elimination of these causes falls outside the realm of this research, we find out the calibrated values based on all the causes, and we adjust the initial values of analog-to-digital convertor (ADC) module consisted of strain gauge sensor block using the calibrated values. We use the linear interpolation method for our calibration. We confirm that four sensor modules have the different under 5% between the real weight and the measured value in the experiment applied with the calibration of initial values. The low correlation between the real weights and ADC values is also improved through the proposed calibration.

  • Because of good taste and quick cooking, the induction heating type pressure rice cooker is widely used. Since pressure is applied to oven structure, it should be necessary to check the safety evaluation. In this paper, strain gauge experiment is performed in order to evaluate the oven's strain and its result is compared with that of structural analysis. And water test is performed to evaluate the oven's permanent deformation. The result is also compared with that of structural analysis. By using these experiments and analyses the safety evaluation method of the oven is suggested.

A Study on the Contact Seam Tracking Sensor by Using Strain Gauges (스트레인 게이지를 이용한 접촉식 용접선 추적 센서에 관한 연구)

  • There are many kinds of seam trackers in the industrial welding field. We are proposed the contact seam tracking sensor applying strain gauges kind of contact sensor that mostly used in welding part now. For this seam tracking experiment, we made the strain gauges sensor by ourselves and tested how well the sensor tracks the seam. The experiment device consist of strain gauges sensor, amplifier circuit of strain gauges signal, saw wave generator, MOSFET power diving circuit and X-Y slide by moved DC motor. The tracking areas are X-Y planes(left, right, up and down) and the change of strain gauge resistance causes to move DC motor that connected to X-Y slide. As a result of experiment, we confirmed that the strain gauges sensor tracks a seam well, and X-Y slide DC motor was controlled by PWM control.
