Statement of problem: In distal extension removable partial denture, the preservation of health of abutment teeth are very important, but they are always subjected to unfavorable stress. Purpose: The purpose of this study was performed to investigate the effects of abutment splinting and design of direct retainer on the stress distribution of abutments in unilateral distal extension removable partial dentures. Material and method: Abutments were splinted by different method. In group 1, autment teeth were not splinted, in group 2, canine and 1st premolar were splinted, and in group 3, canine, 1st and 2nd premolars were all splinted. Three different types of direct retainer such as Akers clasp, RPI clasp, and wrought wire clasp were designed. Strain was measured with Switch & Balance Unit(SB-10, Measurement Group Instruments Division, Raleigh USA) and Strain Indicator(P-3500, Measurement Group Instruments Division, Raleigh, USA) 15kg of vertical and oblique loads was applied at central fossa of missing 2nd molar area. Results : The strain on lingual side of 2nd premolar was the greatest, and abutment splinting induced decrease of strain on buccolingual side of 2nd premolar. The strain of loaded area was decreased by abutment splinting and there was no statistical difference of strain between Group2 and Group 3, and strain on 2nd premolar in wrought wire clasp was the least. Conclusion: Within the limitations of this study, splinting of two distal abutment teeth is enough for stress distribution widely, and wrought wire clasp was more benefitable than others.
The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of 3 implant impression methods by using strain gauge. The models used for this study were partially edentulous mandibular acrylic resin casts Model A, with two abutment analogs in #46,47 extraction site, represented two implant parallel to to the adjacent natural tooth. Model B represent an anterior implant parallel to the adjacene natural tooth and a posterior implant exhibiting a 15-degree lingual inclination. Master framework were fabricated on the master model, and 3 strain gauges were attached to a master framwork to determine the passivity of fit of the framework to sample casts made by the three impression techniques. The master framework was attached to each sample cast with gold screws, which were tightened with the torque driver to ensure a consistent toque application of 10 Ncm. Universal Digital Measuring System UCAM-5BT was used for strain measuring. Impression techniques studid were : 1. unsplinted tapered impression coping, polyvinyl siloxane, stock tray 2. unsplinted squared impression coping, polyether, custom tray 3. squared impression coping splinted with Duralay resin, polyether, custom tray Through analysis on data from this study, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. There were no statistically significant differences between the mean strain recorded from the sample casts made with the tree impression. But only strain values of model A(parallel group) Y-axis was signifcantly differed between Technique 1 and 3(P<0.05). 2. There was no statistically significant difference between model A(parallel group) and model B(15-degree divergent group).

The Strain rate effect in electro-magnetic forming, which is one of the high velocity forming methods, is studied by the finite element method in this paper. The forming process is simplified by neglecting the coupling between magnetic field and work-piece deformation, and the impulsive magnetic pressure is regarded as inner pressure load. A rate-dependent elasto-plastic material model, of which tangential modulus depends of effective strain rate, is proposed. The model is shown to well describe the transient increase of yield stresses, the decreases of the final displacement and yield stress, the decrease of the difference in the distribution of deformation along the axial direction, and the change of deformation mechanism due to strain rate effect. As a result, displacement, final deformed shape, radial velocity, deformation energy, and the changes of effective stress, effective strain and effective strain rate through plastic working are given. Based on the results, the effectiveness of this model and the strain rate effect of the deformation process of the work-piece are discussed.
Flexible strain sensors, as the core member of the family of smart electronic devices, along with reasonable sensing range and sensitivity plus low cost, have rose a huge consumer market and also immense interests in fundamental studies and technological applications, especially in the field of biomimetic robots movement detection and human health condition monitoring. In this paper, we propose a new flexible strain sensor based on thick CVD graphene film and its low-cost fabrication strategy by using the commercial adhesive tape as flexible substrate. The tensile tests in a strain range of ~30% were implemented, and a gage factor of 30 was achieved under high strain condition. The optical microscopic observation with different strains showed the evolution of cracks in graphene film. Together with commonly used platelet overlap theory and percolation network theory for sensor resistance modeling, we established an overlap destructive resistance model to analyze the sensing mechanism of our devices, which fitted the experimental data very well. The finding of difference of fitting parameters in small and large strain ranges revealed the multiple stage feature of graphene crack evolution. The resistance fallback phenomenon due to the viscoelasticity of flexible substrate was analyzed. Our flexible strain sensor with low cost and simple fabrication process exhibits great potential for commercial applications.

Fatigue behavior and life prediction method were presented for themal-mechanical and isothermal low cycle fatigue of 12 Cr forged steel used for high temperature applications. In-phase and out-of-phase thermal-mechanical fatigue test from 350 .deg. C to 600 .deg. C and isothermal low cycle fatigue test at 600 .deg. C, 475 .deg. C, 350 .deg. C were conducted using smooth cylindrical hollow specimen under strain-control with total strain ranges from 0.006 to 0.015. The phase difference between temperature and strain in thermal-mechanical fatigue resulted in significantly shorter fatigue life for out-of-phase than for in-phase. Thermal-mechanical fatigue life predication was made by partitioning the strain ranges of the hysteresis loops and the results of isothermal low cycle fatigue tests which were performed under the combination of slow and fast strain rates. Predicted fatigue lives for out-of-phase using the strain range partitioning method showed an excellent agreement with the actual out-of-phase thermal-mechanical fatigue lives within a factor of 1.5. Conventional strain range partitioning method exhibited a poor accuracy in the prediction of in-phase range partitioning method in a conservative way. By the way life prediction of thermal-mechanical fatigue by Taira's equivalent temperature method and spanning fartor method showed good agreement within out-of-phase thermal-mechanical fatigue.
The most comprehensive and particularly reliable method for non-destructively measuring the residual stress of the surface layer of metals is the sin2ψ method. When X-rays were used the relationship of εφψ-sin2ψ measured on the surface layer of the processing metal did not show linearity when the sin2ψ method was used. In this case, since the effective penetration depth changes according to the changing direction of the incident X-ray, σφ becomes a sin2ψ function. Since σφ cannot be used as a constant, the relationship in εφψ-sin2ψ cannot be linear. Therefore, in this paper, the orthogonal function method according to Warren's diffraction theory and the basic profile of normal distribution were synthesized, and the X-ray diffraction profile was calculated and reviewed when there was a linear strain (stress) gradient on the surface. When there is a strain gradient, the X-ray diffraction profile becomes asymmetric, and as a result, the peak position, the position of half-maximum, and the centroid position show different values. The difference between the peak position and the centroid position appeared more clearly as the strain (stress) gradient became larger, and the basic profile width was smaller. The weighted average strain enables stress analysis when there is a strain (stress) gradient, based on the strain value corresponding to the centroid position of the diffracted X-rays. At the 1/5 Imax max height of X-ray diffraction, the position where the diffracted X-ray is divided into two by drawing a straight line parallel to the background, corresponds approximately to the centroid position.
According to the report of the WHO, workers have been exposed to much job strain such as job load, responsibility, role, interpersonal conflict etc. In Korea, studies on job strain started to become active from 1990s and now hundreds of studies are actively under going or publishing so that the studies are contributing to development and improvement of job strain. Representative measurement models of job strain are Job Strain Model of Karasek, Job Stress Model of NOISH, Korea Occupational Stress Scale, JSQ(Job Stress Questionnaire), K-OSI(Korea Version of Occupational Stress Inventory) etc. (Lee Kwan-Suk, 2012 ; KOSHA, 2003). Among them, Job Strain Model of Karasek had been loved by many researchers of job strain before Korea Occupational Stress Scale was developed. Job Strain Model of Karasek had been fitted to Korean style and then, used to analyze job strain of Korean people so that this Scale highly contributed to seeking relationship with cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disease caused by job, smoking, drug, alcohol poisoning, and pulse(Lee Kwan-Suk, 2012). But as this Model was studied and developed based on foreign culture and life pattern, a model fit to Korea was developed to measure job strain for Korean people, which is Korea Occupational Stress Scale now most frequently used in measuring job strain. Accordingly, after this study made questionnaire survey about same population using the two methods used most frequently in measuring job strain, the study investigated what features appeared, what correlations appear between two models, and comparatively analyzed characteristics each independent and dependent variable. Based on this, the study aimed to exactly express job strain of Korean people. The subjects of the study were a population of 233, and Karasek's Questionnaire and KOSS's Questionnaire were surveyed at the same time. The results were analyzed by statistical program to obtain significant difference between two models. Four particular groups were divided with Job Strain Model of Karasek and the four particular groups were measured with Korea Occupational Stress Scale. And job strain come from combination of two models was measured, with which new comparative analysis method was suggested.
The settlements by liquefaction seldom occur uniformly because of soil homogeneity, however differential settlements are major cause of the damages to structures. From the past researches, author paid attention to the fact that stress history during undrained cyclic shear process affects greatly on the volumetric strains of the post-liquefaction. Therefore, the effect of the residual shear strain in cyclic shear process was examined in this study. The experiment apparatus based on strain control with volumetric strain control device was used for the study to investigate the effect of the residual strain on the relationship between volumetric strain and effective stress of clean and granite sandy soil. It could be seen an insignificant difference in the volumetric strain after liquefaction under various residual shear strain conditions in the case of clean sand. On the other hand, in granite sandy soil, the volumetric strain after liquefaction was small when the lower level of the residual shear strain was applied. And, the residual shear strain during cyclic shear affected the shape of the relation curve between effective stress and volumetric strain as well.
Three dimensional structures of envelope protein from Korean isolates and Nakayama-NIH strain of Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) were deduced by a computer program (HyperChem 4.0 Chemplus 1.0) based on the data of the three dimentional structure of Tick-borne encephalitis virus. In the three dimensional structure of envelope protein, neutralizing epitope and T-helper cell recognition site of C-terminal region of Korean isolates were structually similar to those of Nakayama-NIH but the N-terminal region was not. Korean JE isolates were compared with Nakayama-NIH strain by using cross-neutralization antibody test. Neutralizing activities of Korean isolates derived from guinea pigs were higher than those of Nakayama-NIH strain against Korean isolates, although the polyclonal antibody titers of Nakayama-NlH showed 1:160 to 1:640 against Korean isolates. According to the results from three dimentional structures and cross-neutralization analyses, the antigenic difference between Korean JE isolates and Nakayama-NIH strain may be dependent on structural difference of envelope protein.

Object : This study was planned to show the influences of MET(muscle energy techniques) treatment and acupuncture treatment on iliopsoas muscles of sprain and strain of lumbar spine patients. Method : This study was carried out on the 39 patients who had been treated for their sprain and strain of lumbar spine from March 2 to October 15, 2010 in the department of oriental rehabilitaion medicine, Dongsuwon oriental medicine hospital. And 22 out of 39 patients had a tenderness and pain in their iliopsoas muscles. And we divided those 22 patients into 2 groups by blocked randomization; group A took near acupuncture point needling treatment on the iliopsoas muscles, group B took MET(muscle energy techniques) treatment on the iliopsoas muscles. To evaluate the efficiency of each treatment, all patients were examined with VAS(visual analogue scale) before treatment and after the 3rd, 5th treatment. Result : On the VAS, it was decreased significantly after treatment in all groups. And it didn't show the clear difference between two groups. Conclusion : In this study, it did not show statistical difference in VAS between two groups.
