  • This study was conducted to observe the fermentative quality and anthocyanin content in whole crop colored barley silage during storage periods and anthocyanin stability in in vitro ruminal fluid. Silages of colored barley cultivar "Boanchalbori" and normal barley cultivar "Yuyeonbori" were stored during 0, 2, 4, 6, and 12 months. The in vitro ruminal fluid was fermented for 0, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hrs. For the feed value, crude protein of colored barley silage was slightly increased in the silage compared to that of normal barley silage, and being increased up to 2 months after ensiling and thereafter maintained at the similar level. Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) contents of both the barley significantly increased by prolonged storage of 2 months (p<0.05), but they were maintained at the constant level after 2 months of storing silage. Whereas TDN (total digestible nutrients) contents of them were decreased by the prolonged storage of 2 months (p<0.05), then maintained at the constant levels. The fermentative quality and pH values in both the barley silages were slightly decreased during the storage time. Lactic acid and acetic acid contents were increased during prolonged storage period, but not significantly different among treatments. Butyric acid was not detected. In the colored barley silage, pH value showed slightly lower compared to that of the normal barley silage but not significant, and lactic acid content was significantly higher than the normal barley silage (p<0.05). The total anthocyanin content in the whole crop colored barley silage decreased to 42% after 2 months of ensilage, however maintained at the constant level until 12 months of ensilage. In the case of anthocyanin stability on in vitro ruminal fluid digestion, the pH value of the ruminal fluid was slightly lower at 6, 12, 24, 48h incubation time and the content of anthocyanin was at similar levels. These results indicated that the colored barley showed higher fermentation quality, and total anthocyanin content was maintained stable at 42% level of the first value in storing silage. As the anthocyanin had higher stability in the ruminal fluid, the colored barley has a potential as functional feeds for Ruminants.

  • 'Mats-kyeong-chae (Brassica lee ssp. namai cv. Tongssamchoo)', a new type of sweet Korean cabbage for fresh wrapping and soup cooking, was released by the Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries. The shelf-life and quality changes of this new cultivar was evaluated by packaging with PP (polypropylene) film bag and storing at three temperatures ($5^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$, and $25^{\circ}C$). As control, the cabbage was packaged in a corrugated paper box and stored at $25^{\circ}C$. At the storage temperature of $5^{\circ}C$, the degree of freshness, weight loss, hue angle and SPAD on cabbage packaged with PP film bag maintained its good quality and exhibited a longer period of marketable life compared to the samples stored in other treatments. Results showed that the use of PP film packaging and storing at $5^{\circ}C$ could be the optimum condition for commercial storage of 'Mats-kyeong-chae'. Further investigation on other quality parameters according to different packaging methods would be useful in maintaining the quality of 'Mats-kyeong-chae' at postharvest stages.

  • This study was conducted to develope an automatic liquid feeder for early weaning piglets and to test the efficacy of the system. The liquid feeder consists of water heating and discharge unit, dry diet storing and discharge unit, mixing and discharge unit, mixed liquid feed-delivering unit, and the central control part which control each unit, feeding frequency and the amount of feeding. For investigating the possibility of practical use, a feeding trial was carried out using eighteen three way crossbred piglets weaned on 19 days of age for the experimental period of six weeks. Experimental diet was provided in liquid form using the automatic liquid feeder for the first three weeks and in dry form for the later three weeks. The water heating and discharge unit exactly supplied warm water by 27 $m\ell$/s, into the mixing unit. The dry diet storing and discharge unit supplied dry feed by 3.7g/s, into the mixing unit. Being compared with the standard growth rate suggested by NRC, average daily gain of the piglets during the first three weeks of liquid feeding was lower by 10%, while it was higher during three weeks of dry feeding and over the whole experimental period by 24 and 17%, respectively. Feed/gain was 1.09, 2.14 and 1.89 for the first 3 weeks, later 3 weeks, and whole period, respectively. Diarrhea was observed for three days from day 3 to day 7 after feeding liquid diet, but no pig died of it. In conclusion, a preliminary test for the newly developed an automatic liquid feeder using 19 days of age weaning piglets showed that the unit was successfully operated without any major problems. Piglets raised on a liquid diet through the unit developed grew less during the first three weeks, but their growth and feed intake were greatly improved thereafter, indicating the developed automatic liquid feeder may be practically used in swine industry.

  • This experiment was carried out to get the basic information about long term storage (Temp.: -10${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$ and -l${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$, RH; 30${\pm}$6) of rice germplasm by using three Japonica and one Indica x Japonica cultivars based on the storage periods (96, 86, 58 and 20 months). The germination ability, based on the storing periods, was tested under the conditions of 30-32$^{\circ}C$ and 15-17$^{\circ}C$ air temperature. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. There were no significant differences between the short and long term storage conditions in the percentage of germination, average germination period, germination coefficient of the four varieties tested under both 15-17$^{\circ}C$ of low and 30-32$^{\circ}C$ of optimum temperature conditions. 2. Eventhough there were no significant differences in germination depending on the storage periods under optimum temperature condition (30-32$^{\circ}C$). Longer storage duration resulted in lower germination percentage, longer average germination period and lower germination coefficient under low temperature condition (15-17$^{\circ}C$). Comparing the varieties, the germination percentage of a Indica/Japonica cultivar "Tongil" was lower than that of Japonica cultivars under the low temperature condition (15-17$^{\circ}C$). 3. The longer period of storage, the more abnormal plants had appeared. 4. The germination ability was lost earlier under the condition of high moisture content in the seed and non-ventilation container.

  • Changes in the quality characteristics of muskmelon were analyzed by treating samples with 500, 1,000, and 1,500 ppb 1-MCP every 4 days and then storing the samples at $10^{\circ}C$. The weight losses of the MCP treated samples were lower than those of the control, while there were no differences in the concentrations among treatments. The firmness was maintained at a higher value in 1-MCP treated samples than the control during the storage period and showed the highest value in the 1,000 ppb treatment. The L-values (brightness of samples) in the 500 and 1,000 ppb treatments were kept constant during the storage period, while that of the control showed a decreasing trend after four days of storage. The bvalues and yellowness, were decreased after showing an increasing trend in both treatments and the control as the storage period passed. The respiration rates of 1-MCP treated samples were lower than the control, with the lowest value being observed in the 1,000 ppb treatment. The texture observed upon sensory evaluation was higher and freshness was maintained longer in the 1,000 ppb treatment. Therefore, 1,000 ppb 1-MCP was considered to be the most effective concentration for treatment of muskmelon.

  • This study compared the physicochemical quality characteristics of the Omija beverage for 36 weeks (9 months) depending on the storage container and storage temperature. From 3 weeks of storage, the optical density showed a significant difference according to the storage container, and the soluble solid contents showed a significant difference according to the storage container, storage temperature, and storage container${\times}$temperature. The total polyphenol and total acidity decreased slightly in the late storage period at all transparent and brown bottle treatments but the pH increased slightly. Generally, changes in the quality characteristics of Omija beverage at $4^{\circ}C$ storage were less than that at $20^{\circ}C$ and $36^{\circ}C$ storage. Correlation analysis of each factors, optical density, soluble solid content, total polyphenol, pH, and total acidity showed a positive correlation with each item according to the storage period. The storage period, particularly the transparent bottle treatment, appeared to have a significant impact on reducing the optical density. A few quality changes were observed after the brown bottle treatment for 36 weeks. In addition the stability according to the storage temperature was confirmed in each treatment. The brown bottle treatment is effective in maintaining the quality of Omija beverage for 36 weeks.

  • The purpose of study was to improve the storage time of breads with spices. The quality of breads with garlic, ginger and cinnamon powder containing 1 % concentration were investigated using sensory and mechanical evaluation. For 14 days, total microbial count and chemical properties were analyzed at 18$^{\circ}C$. The result of sensory evaluation was not significantly different between control and breads with spices powder. But breads with spices powder were significantly higher than control in texture and acceptability. Especially, bread with cinnamon powder was most favorable in acceptability. The result of total microbial count showed that breads with spices powder were reduced with storing time passed and bread with cinnamon powder was most reduced in breads with spices powder. ks storing time passed, moisture contents and pH range were decreased and L, a and b value were decreased in all breads. Hardness, gumminess and brittleness of torture analysis were increased as storing time passed, but springiness and cohesiveness were decreased. A negative correlation was observed between the sensory and mechanical properties in general. Sensory Properties of springiness and swelling were positively correlated with the acceptability. In the analysis of correlation between the chemical and mechanical properties showed that lightness of mechanical properties had positive correlation with pH range and moisture contents. Moisture contents of chemical properties had negative correlation with hardness, but had positive correlation with cohesiveness of mechanical properties.

  • This study investigated the main factors influencing digester temperature and methods to reduce heat losses during the cold season in the subtropics. Four composite digesters (two insulated and two uninsulated) were buried underground to measure their internal temperature ($^{\circ}C$) at a depth of 140 cm and 180 cm, biogas production and methane ($CH_4$) concentration in biogas from August to February. In parallel the temperature of the air (100 cm above ground), in the slurry mixing tank and in the soil (10, 100, 140, and 180 cm depth) was measured by thermocouple. The influent amount was measured daily and the influent chemical composition was measured monthly during the whole experimental period. Seasonal variations in air temperature significantly affected the temperature in the soil, mixing tank and digester. Consequently, biogas production, which is temperature dependent, was influenced by the season. The main factors determining the internal temperature in the digesters were insulation with Styrofoam, air temperature and temperature of slurry in the mixing tank. Biogas production is low due to the cold climate conditions in winter in Northern Vietnam, but the study proved that storing slurry in the mixing tank until its temperature peak at around 14:00 h will increase the temperature in the digester and thus increase potential biogas production. Algorithms are provided linking digester temperature to the temperature of slurry in the mixing tank.

  • Deproteinization has been recognized as a prerequisite for amino acid analysis of plasma samples. For plasma stored at room temperature, delaying deproteinization for 30, 60 or 120 minutes did not result in significant changes in the mean CV (coefficient of variation), which ranged from 4.4 to 5.6%. However the mean CV of aspartic acid, ${\alpha}$-aminoadipic acid, alanine and lysine was about 10%. When the plasma was stored frozen at -20${^{\circ}C}$, the CV was increased at 0 and 120 minutes after thawing, to 12.4% (range, 4.1 to 35.3%) and 8.0% (2.5 to 30.7%), respectively. The concentrations in plasma during storage at room temperature of all the amino acids analyzed showed significant changes. In plasma stored for 30 minutes at room temperature, 17 amino acids increased in concentrations and two decreased. Extending this period to 60 or 120 minutes increased the instability as compare to the reference group. Storing plasma at -20${^{\circ}C}$ for 2 weeks resulted in significantly greater changes in the amino acid concentrations than at room temperature. On extending the storage time at room temperature, after thawing, to 30, 60, and 120 minutes, 21, 20, and all 22 amino acids respectively changed significantly (p<0.01). The present study indicates that methodological errors occur in the concentrations determined for all amino acids when plasma is left at room temperature. The storage of frozen non-deproteinized plasma accompanied more significant changes in most amino acid concentrations and thus should be avoided. Deproteinization should be performed as soon as possible after plasma collection.

  • Encryption is a method to convert information to no-sense code in order to prevent data from being lost or altered by use of illegal means. Audit logging creates audit log of users' activities, exceptions, and information security events, and then conserves it for a certain period for investigation and access-control auditing. Our paper suggests that confidentiality and integrity of information should be guaranteed when transmitting and storing important information in encryption. Encryption should consider both one-way encryption and two-way one and that encryption key should assure security. Also, all history related to electronic financial transactions should be logged and kept. And, it should be considered to check the details of application access log and major information. In this paper, we take a real example of encryption and log audit for safe data transmission and periodic check.
