A Control Strategy for Flywheel Energy Storage / Recovery System with Induction Machine (유도기를 이용한 플라이휠 에너지 저장 및 재생 시스템 제어 기법)

  • The paper proposed a control strategy for flywheel energy/recovery system with induction machine at the dynamic UPS system using the flywheel stored mechanical energy. The performances for the vector controlled induction generator are compared with those for the induction generator using slip control method. The strategy to improve the transient responses for dc link capacitor voltage is suggested at the transition from the motoring mode to the generating mode. The strategy Proposed by the paper is verified with experiment results using 32bit DSP.

  • Arc power is consumed energy per unit time between welding electrodes. The relations between consumed energy and electrode distance, current, voltage are nonlinear characteristics. Therefore commercial A.C. wattmeter cannot be used for measurement of the arc power. Most of arc energy measuring systems are developed for relay contact arc measurement. Relaly arc requires integrated instantaneous power because relay arc finishes in a short instant. But most of welding powers are continually consumed powers, therefore instantaneous power must be continually indicated in the form of averagy value. The author propose a new measurement method of power in which the current and voltage of welding electrode is multiplied and the resultant signal is passed to low pass filter in order to remove higher order frequency components. After integrating, the signal is devided by the integral interval and the results are stored in a computer memory.

  • The study is analyzed the thrust fon:e of moving type Linear DC Motor(MM-LDM). The MM-LDM consists of a stator (platen) and mover (forcer). One of the method for calculating tile thrust of an MM-LDM is to analyze the energy gradient which is determined by the distribution of magnet flux. However, this method is very difficult when used to calculate the thrust force of this kind of LDM. The stored energy in the MM-LDM can be obtained by measuring the self-inductance and mutual-inductance of equivalent circuit of the MM-LOM and this energy gradient gives the thrust. The calculation of thrust force included in this motor shows that the mutual inductance has large influence on the generation of thrust force.

  • In this paper, a study was made of the technology used to measure the remaining amount of energy in secondary cells, for which demand is ever increasing. First, the standard data were stored for measurement of the remaining energy and a compare/analysis algorithm was developed. Next, hardware was designed and a prototype that can display the SOC(State Of Charge) through an LCD displayinstrument was created. The small size of the prototype allows it to be portable and its performance is within ${\pm}4$[%].

  • The demand of LNG as a cheap and clean energy which does not cause an environmental problem has sharply been increased in Korea. In general LNG is stored in a cargo tank specially designed as a liquid state below $-162^{\circ}C$. The main engine of a LNG carrier is generally a steam boiler because LNG is a highly flammable fluid with the possibility of explosion. The main engine of a cargo ship has to be capable of the propulsion load and various auxiliary loads for the safe navigation since it is the primary energy source. Therefore the evaluation of a main boiler's energy capacity is a key design point in the planning of LNG carrier's construction. This research is to develop the computational program for the analysis of steam boiler Heat balance for LNG carrier.

An Experimental Study on Sea Water Freezing Behavior in a Cooled Circular Tube (원관내의 해수동결거동에 관한 실험적연구)

  • In the adoption of a desalination system the most important factor is the cost of fresh water pro-duction. In general LNG is stored in a tank as a liquid state below $-162^{\circ}C$ When it is serviced however the LNG absorbs energy from a heat source and it is transformed to a high pressure gaseous state. During this process a huge amount of cold energy accumulated in cooling LNG is wasted. This wasted cold energycan be utilized to produce fresh water by using a sea water freez-ing desalination system. in order to develop a sea water freezing desalination system and to estab-lish its design technique qualitative and quantitative data regarding the freezing behavior of sea water is required in advance. The goals of this study are to reveal the freezing mechanisms of sea water in a cooled circular tube to measure the freezing rate and to investigate the freezing heat-transfer characteristics. The experimental results provide a general understanding of sea water freezing behavior in a cooled circular tube.

  • In order to obtain better performance for a SRM(switched reluctance motor) drive, the commutation from one phase to another must be as fast as possible. In this paper a novel converter for SRM drive is proposed, which can accelerate the turn-off and turn-on time by using two capacitors to form a resonant circuit with the motor inductance. Two capacitors recover rapidly stored energy in the off going phase and establish rapidly the current rising in the on going phase. As a result, the current tail can be shortened and the dwell angle in the positive torque region can be extended. And comparing with the asymmetric converter, this converter has higher energy availability in energy conversion process and less number of switches.

  • Heat transfer phenomena during freezing process of the water in a vertical cylinder were experimentally studied. Purified water was inserted into the vertical cylinder Experiment was performed with two conditions ; the inlet temperature of the working fluid was maintained to be -1$0^{\circ}C$ and the direction of the working fluid was to be upward or downward. Both the mean temperature of the liquid and temperature difference of cylinder tube wall in the upward were lower than those in the downward. In addition, shape of ice layer in the upward was more uniform than that in the downward. Finally, time-varying total heat energy stored in the water in the upward was higher than that in the downward.

  • For quite a long time various researches and developments of superconducting magnetic energy storage(SMES) device have been done for enhancement of power qualify control of sensitive electric load. This paper describes the design. fabrication and experimental results for the 3MJ SMES magnet made by using the design code of a SMES device that we developed. A computer code was developed to find the parameters of the SMES magnet which has minimum amount of superconductor for the same stored energy, and the 3MJ SMES magnet was designed based upon that. And the 3MJ SMES magnet designed based upon those. In addition, 3MJ SMES magnet was made based on several research results which were ramp up to 1㎄ without quench.

  • In order to improved the three phase GTO CSI of high efficiency IM drive with low loss commutation and snubber energy, we studied the energy recovery circuit to recover stored energy in clamping capacitor, dc link inductor and snubber capacitor, used an induction motor as the load of inverter. Specially, we investigated how dc input power is increased or decreased according to size of dc link inductor. The validity of this system is proved through experiment.
