A Novel Framework for Resource Orchestration in OpenStack Cloud Platform

  • This work is mainly focused on two major topics in cloud platforms by using OpenStack as a case study: management and provisioning of resources to meet the requirements of a service demanded by remote end-user and relocation of virtual machines (VMs) requests to offload the encumbered compute nodes. The general framework architecture contains two subsystems: 1) An orchestrator that allows to systematize provisioning and resource management in OpenStack, and 2) A resource utilization based subsystem for vibrant VM relocation in OpenStack. The suggested orchestrator provisions and manages resources by: 1) manipulating application program interfaces (APIs) delivered by the cloud supplier in order to allocate/control/manage storage and compute resources; 2) interrelating with software-defined networking (SDN) controller to acquire the details of the accessible resources, and training the variations/rules to manage the network based on the requirements of cloud service. For resource provisioning, an algorithm is suggested, which provisions resources on the basis of unused resources in a pool of VMs. A sub-system is suggested for VM relocation in a cloud computing platform. The framework decides the proposed overload recognition, VM allocation algorithms for VM relocation in clouds and VM selection.

  • The storage capacity of 3D-NAND flash memory has been enhanced by the multi-layer dielectrics. The deposition process has become more challenging due to the tight process margin and the demand for accurate process control. To reduce product costs and ensure successful processes, process diagnosis techniques incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) have been adopted in semiconductor manufacturing. Recently there is a growing interest in process diagnosis, and numerous studies have been conducted in this field. For higher model accuracy, various process and sensor data are required, such as optical emission spectroscopy (OES), quadrupole mass spectrometer (QMS), and equipment control state. Among them, OES is usually used for plasma diagnostic. However, OES data can be distorted by viewport contamination, leading to misunderstandings in plasma diagnosis. This issue is particularly emphasized in multi-dielectric deposition processes, such as oxide and nitride (ON) stack. Thus, it is crucial to understand the potential misunderstandings related to OES data distortion due to viewport contamination. This paper explores the potential for misunderstanding OES data due to data distortion in the ON stack process. It suggests the possibility of excessively evaluating process drift through comparisons with a QMS. This understanding can be utilized to develop diagnostic models and identify the effects of viewport contamination in ON stack processes.

  • 낸드 플래시 메모리 기반의 NVMe(Non-Volatile Memory express) SSD(Solid State Drive)는 멀티 I/O 큐 환경을 제공하는 PCIe 인터페이스 기반에 NVMe 프로토콜을 사용하는 저장장치이다. NVMe SSD는 Multi-core 시스템에서 병렬 I/O 처리가 가능하고 SATA SSD에 비해 대역폭이 크며 대용량의 저장 공간을 제공하기 때문에 데이터 센터, 클라우드 컴퓨팅 등에 사용될 차세대 저장장치로 주목받고 있다. 하지만 가상화 시스템에서는 소프트웨어 I/O 스택의 병목으로 인하여 NVMe SSD의 성능을 충분히 활용하지 못하고 있다. 특히, Xen과 KVM과 같이 호스트 시스템의 I/O 스택을 사용하는 경우에는, 호스트 시스템과 가상머신의 중복된 I/O 스택을 통해서 입출력이 처리되기 때문에 성능 저하가 크게 발생한다. 본 논문에서는 NVMe SSD에 직접 접근하는 기술을 KVM 가상화 시스템에 적용함으로써 가상 머신 I/O의 성능을 향상시키는 Direct-AIO (Direct-Asynchronous I/O)엔진을 제안한다. 그리고 QEMU 에뮬레이터에 제안한 엔진을 개발하고 기존의 I/O 엔진과의 성능 차이를 비교 및 분석한다.

오픈소스 클라우드 플랫폼 OpenStack 기반 위성영상분석처리 서비스 시험구현 (Testing Implementation of Remote Sensing Image Analysis Processing Service on OpenStack of Open Source Cloud Platform)

  • 2013년 현재 클라우드(Cloud) 컴퓨팅 서비스는 정보통신기술분야의 핵심 기술 동향 중 하나로서 이에 관련된 기술이나 사업 응용 분야가 계속 발전, 확대되고 있다. 이러한 서비스를 개발할 수 있는 기반 요소인 클라우드 플랫폼 중에 하나인 OpenStack은 오픈소스 기반으로 몇 가지의 내부 기술 요소로 이루어져 있고, 서비스 목적에 따라 상업적 플랫폼에 의존하지 않고도 독자적인 공개 및 비공개 클라우드 컴퓨팅 환경을 구축할 수 있는 환경을 제공한다. 이번 연구에서는 위성영상정보 분석처리 시스템을 시범적인 클라우드 서비스 모델로 설정하여 OpenStack을 기반으로 비공개 클라우드 컴퓨팅 환경으로 설계, 구축하는 사례를 제시하고자 하였다. 구현된 서비스는 세부적으로 인스턴스 서버, 웹 서비스, 모바일 앱으로 구분하였다. 인스턴스 서버는 실제 위성영상정보 분석처리, 데이터베이스 등의 기능을 제공하고, 웹 서비스는 사용자로부터 위성영상정보를 저장 및 관리하는 기능을 제공한다. 한편 모바일 앱은 위성영상정보의 시각화 및 분석처리 요청 등의 기능을 수행한다.

Focal Stack Based Light Field Coding for Refocusing Applications

  • Since light field (LF) image has huge data volume, it requires high-performance compression technique for efficient transmission and storage of its data. Camera users may like to represent parts of image at different levels of focus at their choice anytime. To address this refocusing functionality, in this paper, we first render a focal stack consisting of multi-focus images, then compress it instead of original LF data. The proposed method has advantage of minimizing the amount of LF data to realize the targeted refocusing applications. Our experiment results show that the proposed method outperforms the state-of-the-art for LF image compression method.

Nonvolatile memory devices with oxide-nitride-oxynitride stack structure for system on panel of mobile flat panel display

  • In this work, nonvolatile memory (NVM) devices for system on panel of flat panel display (FPD) were fabricated using low temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) thin film transistor (TFT) technology with an oxide-nitride-oxynitride (ONOn) stack structure on glass. The results demonstrate that the NVM devices fabricated using the ONOn stack structure on glass have suitable switching characteristics for data storage with a low operating voltage, a threshold voltage window of more than 1.8 V between the programming and erasing (P/E) states after 10 years and its initial threshold voltage window (${\Delta}V_{TH}$) after $10^5$ P/E cycles.

  • 본 논문에서는 근접장 홀로그램의 저장 밀돌르 높이기 위한 각도 다중화 저장, stack-wise 저장 방식에 대한 실험 결과를 보고 하였다. 또한 NSOM을 이용한 방식의 느린 자료 접근 및 전송 시간을 개선하기 위한 실리콘 나노 aperture array를 이용한 홀로그램 저장 및 재생 방식 및 그 실험 결과를 제시하였다. 제안된 방식들은 근접장 광 메모리의 저장 용량을 증가시키는데 큰 역할을 하리라 생각된다.

  • This paper considers the container storage problem determining storage position of inbound containers in a container yard at a rail freight terminal. The objective of the problem is to minimize the total number of rehandles when storing/retrieving containers onto/from stacks in the yard. Rehandle implies the temporary removal from and placement back onto the stack to retrieval a target container. In order to solve the problem, we formulate the problem as a binary integer program.

  • This paper presents the analysis briefs to evaluate the structural adequacy of the KMRR spent fuel storage racks which stack modules in three layers. The seismic analysis models are idealized to consider the overall dynamic motions such as rocking, sliding and liftoff in the event of an postulated earthquake. The displacement time histories of the floor obtained from the floor response spectra in three orthogonal directions are simultaneously applied to the nonlinear seismic model of the structure with gap and friction elements.

초저지연 저장장치를 위한 적응형 폴링 선택 기법 (An Adaptive Polling Selection Technique for Ultra-Low Latency Storage Systems)

  • Recently, ultra-low latency flash storage devices such as Z-SSD and Optane SSD were introduced with the significant technological improvement in the storage devices which provide much faster response time than today's other NVMe SSDs. With such ultra-low latency, $10{\mu}s$, storage devices the cost of context switch could be an overhead during interrupt-driven I/O completion process. As an interrupt-driven I/O completion process could bring an interrupt handling overhead, polling or hybrid-polling for the I/O completion is known to perform better. In this paper, we analyze tail latency problem in a polling process caused by process scheduling in data center environment where multiple applications run simultaneously under one system and we introduce our adaptive polling selection technique which dynamically selects efficient processing method between two techniques according to the system's conditions.
