The Derivation of a New Blind Equalization Algorithm

  • Blind equalization is a technique for adaptive equalization of a communication channel without the aid of training sequences. This paper proposes a new blind equalization algorithm. The advantage of the new algorithm is that it has the lower residual error than the GA (proposed by Godard) and Sign_GA (proposed by Weerackody et al.). The superior performance of the proposed algorithm is illustrated for the 16-QAM signal constellation. A Rummler channel model is assumed as a transmission medium. The performance of the proposed algorithm is compared to the GA, Sign_GA and Stop & Go Algorithm (SGA). The simulation results demonstrate that an improvement in performance is achieved with the proposed equalization algorithm.

  • Hybrid electric vehicles have applied electric parts for saving fuel consumption and reducing levels of environmental pollution. Electrification of automobiles is indispensable for entering into global market because of enhanced environment restriction. ISG (Integrated Starter & Generator) system is one of main electric parts and can improve fuel efficiency more than other components by using Idle Stop & Go function and regenerative braking system. However, if ISG motor and inverter work under the continuously high load condition, it will make them the decrease of performance and durability. So the ISG motor and inverter need to properly design the cooling system of them. In this study, we suggested the enhancement points by modifying the thermal design of ISG motor and then confirmed the improvement of the cooling performance.

A Multi-target Tracking Algorithm for Application to Adaptive Cruise Control

  • This paper presents a Multiple Target Tracking (MTT) Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system which consists of three parts; a multi-model-based multi-target state estimator, a primary vehicular target determination algorithm, and a single-target adaptive cruise control algorithm. Three motion models, which are validated using simulated and experimental data, are adopted to distinguish large lateral motions from longitudinally excited motions. The improvement in the state estimation performance when using three models is verified in target tracking simulations. However, the performance and safety benefits of a multi-model-based MTT-ACC system is investigated via simulations using real driving radar sensor data. The MTT-ACC system is tested under lane changing situations to examine how much the system performance is improved when multiple models are incorporated. Simulation results show system response that is more realistic and reflective of actual human driving behavior.

  • This paper presents development of a vehicle lateral and longitudinal control for autonomous driving control and test results obtained using an electric vehicle. Sliding control theory has been used to develop a vehicle speed and distance control algorithm. The longitudinal control algorithm that maintains safety and comfort of the vehicle consists of a cruise and STOP&GO control depending on traffic conditions. Desired steering angle is determined through the lateral position error and the yaw angle error based on preview optimal control. Motor control inputs have been directly derived from the sliding control law. The performance of the autonomous driving control which is integrated with a lateral and longitudinal control is investigated by computer simulations and driving test using an electric vehicle. Hybrid blind equalizer for improvement of convergence performance (수렴속도 개선을 위한 하이브리드 자력 등화기)

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid blind equalizer with TEA and SG (stop & Go) algorithm with switching point a 0 dB of MSE value for improvement of convergence performance, where TEA is used initially to open the eye and then SG algorithm as rapid convergence is employed. The switching point is selected at the point of 0 dB MSE level because of settling the coefficients of blind equalier. As a result of computer simulatons for 8-PAM in the non-minimum phase channel, the proposed algorithm has better convergence speed as 3,500 ~ 4,500 iterations and has better MsE about 3 ~ 6 dB than those of original TEA. Also, computational cost of proposed algorithm is reduced as 5 ~ 16% than that of original TEA. and, the proposed algorithm has better convergence than SG algorithm as 8,500 ~ 17,500 iteratins but, the MSE is similar to original SG.

  • The MCMA adaptive blind equalization algorithm has a excellent phase correction capabilities in addition to channel amplitude equalization, but has an inevitable error by mismatching between the original constellation points in arriving at the perfect equalization since unique new type constellation points are used as desired response instead of original constellation points and follows the slow convergence speed of CMA. In this paper, We propose an adaptive blind equalization algorithm with dual-mode, which has decision regions. Inside the decision regions, it operates as considering the moudlus of original data symbol point and outside the decision region, it operates as considerin gthe modulus of new constellation points. The proposed algorithm has a lower error in the steady state and rapid convergence speed toward steady state using the original data symbol points instead of new constellation points in the decision regions. From computer simulation, we confirm that the propposed algorithm has the performance superiority in residual ISI, convergence speed compared with the cnventional adaptive blind equalization algorithms, CMA, MCMA, Stop-and-Go algorithm.

  • Error detection in ARQ(Automatic Repeat Request) protocols is very important in wireless data communication systems. The throughput efficiency of ARQ protocols can be improved by dynamically adapting the protocol packet length so that it approaches the optimum value for throuhput efficiency. In this paper, a simple and novel adaptive packet length allocation method is proposed which transmits the packets with variable length by dyanmically estimating the channel codition. The simulation results show that the average of throughput is improved by 315.4% in the stop-and-wait protocol, 41.4% in the go-back-N protocol and 155.9% in the selective repeat protocol respectively. And the throughput performances of adaptive packet length allocation method approximately approach the theoritically optimal throughput performances.

  • In this paper, an efficient approach to classification of transient and harmonic disturbances in power systems is proposed. First, the Stop-and-Go CA CFAR Detector is utilized to detect a disturbance from the power signals which are mixed with other disturbances and noise. Then, (i) Wigner Distribution, SVD(Singular Value Decomposition) and Fisher´s Criterion (ii) DWT and Fisher´s Criterion, are applied to extract an efficient feature vector. For the classification procedure, a combined neural network classifier is proposed to classify each corresponding disturbance class. Finally, the 10 class data simulated by Matlab power system blockset are used to demonstrate the performance of the proposed classification system.

  • We propose a robust equalization algorithm to improve the performance of airplane flutter casuing dynamic ghosts. The algorithm is an augumentation of the DFE with training sequence(DFE-TS) with the Modified Stop-and-Go Algorithm(MSGA) based on DFE structure, which is called a DFE-TS/MSGA. This will allow the equalizer to switch itself back to blind mode almost instantaneously when drastic and sudden changes in the channel occur. Test results based on the 8-VSB HDTV receiver show that the proposed algorithm is robust against dynamic ghosts and outperforms the conventional DFE-TS in reducing the intersymbol interference.

  • Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are becoming widely used in collecting and sensing information in different fields such as in the medical area, smart phone industry and military environment. The main concern here is reducing the power consumption because it effects in the lifetime of wireless sensor during commutation because it may be work in some environment like sensor in the battlefields where is not easy to change the battery for a node and that may decrease the efficiency of that node and that may affect the network traffic may be interrupted because one or more nodes stop working. In this paper we implement, simulate, and investigate S-MAC protocol with mobility support and show the sequence of events the sender and receiver go through. We tested some parameters and their impacts of on the performance including System throughput, number of packets successfully delivered per second, packet delay, average packet delay before successful transmission.
